A map of Candlekeep...

Dungeon Magazine General Discussion

Herm.. so i find my self reduced to looking at a rendering of the balder's gate Candlekeep... because i cant seem to find a better overview.. or any version of a map for that matter... I have descriptions from books ... I have hiarchys ... I even have a brief list of buildings that should be there.. but .. no map to give an idea of WOTC's version of the dang place..

Herm.. blick.. any options other than useing the damndable balders gate overview as a bases

and Yes I know the obvious answer useing my own mind.. but i really wanted some nice artwork to go with my game.. not some rendered 16 bit image.. not to mention its alot to draw...

That's the only layout of Candlekeep that's been published (an article based on it appeared in Dragon #255). It doesn't strike me as particularly lacking.

Have you seen the piece on Candlekeep that Ed Greenwood contributed to candlekeep.com?

I believe Ed Greenwood suggested that mapping Candlekeep would be pointless, that the rooms of the towers were so convoluted that no one got around except by gradually learning landmarks. I think I read something to that effect on the Candlekeep website, anyway.

Which may be another way of saying that Candlekeep, like the Necronomicon, keeps its secrets best if it is never layed out and defined.

Most of the areas in Baldur's Gate and its sequels are simplified versions of the real thing, Baldur's Gate itself being the chief example. Some of their interpretations are decent, others not; I hope than when Durlag's Tower comes to be written up for Dungeon, he says hoping, it's not felt necessary to stick to the version in Tales of the Sword Coast, which is not Ed's original.

0k I realize this might seem a bit off topic:
I was thinking of doing a pen and paper version of the Baldur's Gate games.
I am planning to be really faithful on the npcs side so I was wondering if there is some sort of transcript or even a campaign path for any version of D&D(or even other systems) out there
Any info will help, cheers
