Hail Adventurers! I've been very stressful with my short times with D&D and my lack of time to prepare, so I was wondering about this question as I sat in my car, speaking with my CONFIDAN:
How would one propose DMing with two men/women/bugbears/whatever...? I mean to say, how would one go about playing such a shared campaign, but have it so each DM can get to where the other wants them to?

Hail Drake,
This post I CAN help with because I have shared in a similar project before.
The tricky question is if the 2 DMs play in each OTHER's campaign...then it'll get tricky to keep appraised of the situation and still be surprised and challenged when you play.
What WE did was alternate DMing but none played in the others campaign (it was due to time constraints that the other DM and I could each only make it every other week...and the players wanted to game each week). So what we did was coordinate. We met beforehand and agreed upon a setting (major world features, timelines etc..) agreed on a general theme or mood for the campaign...and finally agrred on the MAJOR plotline and story developping over the next few years of game time (ie the campaign). Then each of us was free to devise their adventures for the week and keep the group entertained provided we didn't deviate from the agreed upon general plot...that no "to be continued" adventures were to be run (ie every session had to be wrapped up at the end of the day so the next DM can start from where they want and not have to continue the last weeks adventure)..and that we kept each constantly informed about what was going on in each adventure (to the point we collaborated often and assisted each other in designing the adventures, even when the other DM was running it)...and the final result was a good campaign. Maybe not the BEST ever, but given the constraints it worked out well...the PCS went from 1st to 14th level in about 8 months of RL gaming..and the campaign came to a close with fun for all.
The only downside for me was the mini packages of adventures ( I love the epic far reaching adventures with MANY parts..but had to modify my style for short adventures).
In conclusion...with 2 reasonably mature DMS...good communication and cooperation...it CAN be done.
Best of luck with your endeavours, and keep us updated as to how it goes.
Be safe.

I have once done a joined campaign with another DM where both of us also had a character in that campaign.
Basically we planned the large plot but the plot was such that most of the stuff in it happened "behind the scenes", at least early on. We decided beforehand when to pull which foreshadowing or event but otherwise we devised our own adventures to run (which were or were not connected to the larger plot) so the other DM could play in that session...the session DM's character quite often hanged around on the side and often helped when asked but took no active part in that session (the campaign was location-based so quite often the DM character just had to stay home when others went to do business).
That was quite fun campaign, so it can be done...but usually requires rather loose campaign framework and of course the DMs have to roleplay well their own characters so that they don't know things their players knows and act in "true" manner (my character switched to the opposite side close to the end of the campaign since that felt like something she would have done...)

We did something like that for a while. We basically had a crew that would spelljam between different worlds and different crystal spheres. Each of the DMs would then run a game in their world of choice, and we would switch to a different world every so often.
If you don't want to spelljam, you could always use planar travel.

We did this for a while also (and, I guess, we're still doing it). I have my regular bi-monthly game that's been going on whith pretty much the same group that lives in my neiborhood. And I have this other game with my old pals from high-school.
My old pals all have families now and live in the suburbs here and there (a half-hour to on hour away). So with them, we play once in a while, when everybody can, and we alternate being DM. We each have a character in the "campaign" that becomes an NPC when one of us DMs. For this game, we tend to do short, site-based adventures with some narration on how and why we got there. For a bunch of guys who used to play four to five times a week and no longer have the luxury of time, it works pretty good.

I have been in a campaign with three DMs.
I came up with the general overarching plot (collect all four parts of an eldrich machine) and the map (four main areas) and then we split the world and the quests up. I took the first and last part of the machine and two of the lands and the other DMs each took a piece and a land. We played through mine, got a piece and then I took over my NPC character and the other guys NPC'd their characters and did their thing. As long as they did not change the world or move the regalia around I did not need to know the details of their campaign so I was happy as a player and they were happy to do whatever they wanted within their realm.
