Catalogue of Non-magical Bard Songs

Liberty's Edge

The Class Acts for Wizards in the most recent issue was the inspiration for this idea.

Bards and minstrels (at least in popular fantasy fiction) seem to know a certain staple of popular tunes that the average tavern patrons regularly request.

Well, that reminded me of how (in the real world) radio stations play the popular songs over and over and over, and after a while people either declare the song to be one of their all-time favorites or they get sick of it.

It would be interesting to come up with a list of well-known songs that bards could play that give various Circumstance penalties or bonuses to the Performance check.

For example, there may be a song that is a favorite among dwarves, but that halflings can't stand.

Maybe there's a song that goes over well with the commoners, but is very insulting to the aristocracy.

Perhaps there's a song that has been overplayed in a certain region and the bard unlucky enough to attempt it in that area will get food, ale mugs, and possibly furniture thrown at him.

The fun part (in my opinion) will be trying out the songs before various audiences, and finding out (the hard way) what makes for a good playlist.
