What would be the result of casting legend lore on the containment collar from thirteen cages? Would Analyze Dweomer reveal anything (probably not. I think it’s a minor artifact, but I have neither the SCAP nor the PH with me right now)? Are there any other spells that my players could cast that could reveal what this is. I have given it to them early and want to be prepared when they try to identify what it is. Thanks.

I took a look through my SCHC, and curiously there is no seperate entry for the Dispersal Collar, so there's no concrete official word on whether or not it's an artifact or just a Wondrous Item designed to work with the Tree of Shackled Souls. I think if I were going to let them find it early (an idea I like, BTW, because having to battle a Pyroclastic dragon with a disintegrating BW in order to get the ONLY method for safely disarming the tree makes me a little nervous on my group's behalf), I would make it a minor artifact, so that they won't immediately know what it's for. If they have to take it from Moltenwing and are in a time-crunch, though, I think I'd keep it as a wondrous item, so that a quick Analyze Dweomer can reveal its function in a time-critical situation. BTW, when/where/how did you let them get their hands on the collar?
