Town / City design question

So for a project I'm working on, I need to actually develop an entire city. Not really a problem, because a lot of it just involves putting ideas onto paper - a large chunk of the city exists in my mind, and is used in my weekly game. But one thing I'm doing for the first with this city is defining stats. And for the life of me, I cannot find in the DMG the calculation for "assets" of a community. I've found population and gold piece limits and all those fun things, but no assets.

Can somebody give me a big circumstance bonus to my Search check and tell me where to find the formula for this? Thanks bunches in advance. :)

It's hard to find, but I just had to look for it about two weeks ago. It's on pg. 137 of the 3.5 DMG. The formula is in the second colunm, second paragraph.

Enjoy! :)

*edit* I don't think they call it "assets," but that's it.

You know - I read that formula a gazillion times, and it didn't seem like it would produce the right numbers. But I just tried it with the city I'm using as a "template" (The Styes, from issue 121), and it works out perfectly.

Thanks, Chris, for giving me the circumstance bonus I needed on my Search check. :D

If you're going to do any sort of city/town design, I highly recommend getting Cityworks, as well as the DMG 2. Saltmarsh in the DMG 2 is heavily detailed, and may well spark ideas for your own city/town.

Thanks, Lilith. I have both - Cityworks is indeed a good book. I haven't completed reading DMG2 yet, so I haven't reached the section on Saltmarsh.

At the moment, it's not in-depth city design; but it might end up being that in the long run.
