Compiled Tables?

3.5/d20/OGL

Currently I am rolling my treasures, especially magic items, up using the DMG. The problem is that this book only includes things found in the core books.

I really need tables that inlude the equipment and magic items (especially spell scrolls and potions) from the varous other books. From my perspective everything in the complete series and teh expanded Psionics handbook would be ideal but I could probably modify tables that where short some of these books or had others included such as the Forgotten Realms setting.

I need random spell tables that include this material as well - though if I had a table to generate random arcane scrolls including all these books then I would obvously also have a table for generating any random spells I might need.

Anyone know of such a resource? Also what are other DMs doing in terms of this? How are you generating your random magic items? How are you incorperating new spells into your game?

Ultradan to the Rescue!!!

Well Billy, I almost always use online treasure generators when I prepare my sessions in advance. Try the following: Go to 'dndadventure.com', then click on 'DM Stuff' on the left sidebar. Scroll down a little and choose 'Jamis Buck's Treasure Generator'. It really comes through for me. Tell me how you like it.

As for spells, I find that there a plenty enough spells in the core rules for me. So I can't help you there... But I'm pretty sure you can find what you need on the same website I mentioned before.

Up, up, and awayyyyy!!

Ultradan

Do a google search for Jamis Buck. He's put out several generators, including a treasure generator, that looks at several non-DMG books. I don't know if it's been updated yet to 3.5, though.

A generator like this is one of those "in my spare time" projects. :-)

Whatever that silly "spare time" thing is...

I know what you mean ... I've slowly been compiling a "master treasure list" for my FR campaign, including FR and other sources, with a chance for "rare" treasures.

I have it as a word file ... if you would like a copy, please email me directly at checkyboy (at) gmail.com

Which other sources?

What I'm looking for is something that includes the entire 'Complete' series, Book of Exalted Deeds, Expanded Psionics Handbook. That said if it has some or most of these plus Forgotten Realms Material then I can probably simply modify it. Possibly replacing Forgotten Realms material with Expanded Psionics Handbook material.

Looks good and if it was updated to 3.5 and had any of the 'Complete' books or psionics or the Book of Exalted Deeds I might use it. Sadly it has none of these meaning its just a core rules generator for me...which I already have (since I have the DMG) - though not one as cool as this.

This certianly is the kind of thing I am looking for and its ability to choose source books is just awsome. To bad its not been updated.

If i ever get my D&D site setup this is one of my first projects, a treasure/spell generator and big lists of stuff from WotC, Dragon and 3rd party stuff.

But it is tough so either wait 'till someone makes a table/generator or start on your own (the hard way basically ;P )

Well thinking about this some more. I'm begining to think I will have to make specific tables to cover the source books etc. that I am using but I am difinitly interested in seeing what you are doing. For possible ideas if for no other reason.

Its really to bad that there is not some kind of master table out there. I'm begining to think that an uber table including everything from every major book might be best. Source everything with the name of the book and the page number. Everyone just rerolls until they get material from a source they are using.

Are you going to be using a database backend, or not?

Lilith wrote:

Probably not 'cause I don't know how.

That said I'll make them in tables that can be exported to a spread sheet. From there its usually easy for some one to feed that into a database.

In fact I might get one of business partners, who is a 'techie to do it, as he is a player in my campaign.

Here is the link to the sight that I use. Very Cool.

Here's something that I've been working on:

http://216.228.168.97:8080/dnd_wiki/treasure.php

Only does gems and coins right now, working on everything else. Far from perfect, I've still got some things to fix and improve. (If you experience any slowness, I'm sorry - it's a fixer-upper box that I use for fun projects.)

Yeah I've seen this and its cool - but its for 3.0 not 3.5.

I agree a master list has potential ... about a year ago I suggested it as an ongoing article for Dungeon, but (Jesse?) said there was no interest in tables. I'd still be willing to do master lists for Dungeon if they'd be interested ...

Here's my current master table for potions. It doesn't include every source (I do about two books a week), and for the 30% unusual section I've marked items as 1% (for non-FR sources) and 3% for FR sources (to keep that FR feeling).

this would be much easier if it were handled by a database. I have experience designing databases but not connecting them to webpages. Much easier to have something where you could enter ECL and have it spit out random treasure.

Granted I very rarely use 'random' treasure in my games.

My dungeon master has some really good tables, but I didn't get a good look at them, I just got a quick glance.

Yeah, this is what I'm working on right now. Trying to classify objects into whether it's a minor/medium/major magic item. It seems that it's done by GP value, but I'm guessing at this point.

Anyway, it's a fun weekend/eveing project. :-D

Dark Archive

Well, one of the things I do is database programming ... ;>

Picking a magic item off a list is simple programming. Many varieties of subtables or conditions is not so simple. I've been building a treasure database in Lantica's Sesame 1.2, and I've got a gem generator down pat. Now I'm working on potions...

But seriously, I've found compiling 'master tables' to work with is simpler than programming up something. I can roll up 1,000 treasure lists faster than I can program something to automate it ...

Soooo ... Erik/James ... any interest in a master table article for Dungeon, as part of the DM's Toolbox? ;>

Okay, I've made some updates to my project:

http://72.0.164.177:8080/dnd_wiki/treasure.php

Haven't gotten EVERYTHING from the DMG in there yet, as there's some custom programming that I want to do. Should you see a blank line, or something that says "Wand of" and nothing after it, there's an example. The page should load a lot faster, as well.

What's been done:

Gems! Mundane Items! Art! Magic Weapons! Magic Armor & Shields!

What needs to be improved:

Art:
I have to find my "new art stuff" tables from Tome of Trouble. There's a LOT of repetition in the art generator.

Potions & Oils:
Eventually I want this to look at every 3rd-lvl or less spell and look at it as a potential potion. Right now, it just looks at the standard DMG list.

Scrolls:
pretty much limited to what I have in my DB - some stuff from Book of Eldritch Might, various internet stuff. Will be putting in the standard Player's Handbook Stuff later. Still some work to do on the scroll generation, such as caster level, limiting it to a certain type (Cleric, Druid, etc).

Wands:
Well, they ain't in there yet. :-D Going to do this the same way I want to do the potions - look at all the applicable spells in the db and whammo! Wand o' choice.

What Needs to be Done:
Staves
Wondrous Items
Cursed Items (heh...)
Standard magical effects (glows, etc)
Intelligent Items

Scarab Sages

I write this email hesitantly as I am sure that I will get many responses based on the above emails.

I have created a scroll generator, a magic item generator, and an art/gem generator. All of these are in an excel sheet format.

I was frustrated because I wanted to include any and all the unique and new magic items, spells and abilities that came from other books. Wands and potions were also frustrating to me because I felt that there could be even more potions than were in the DMG. I also felt that the "weight" of the items wasn't fair. Most things in the DMG were "weighted" the same.

My generators include information from most of the 3.5 books. This includes all the Complete Series, Libris Mortis, the Draconimicon, the Expanded Psionics Handbook (if you choose), the Epic Level Handbook (again if you choose), most of the Forgotten Realms series including Shining South, Magic of Faerun, Player's Guide to Faerun, etc. I also included things that made sense to me (a ring of Strength +2 for instance).

I am hesitant to shoot this off for two reasons. 1) I really don't have a lot of time to devote to emailing these documents to every DM in the country, and 2) These are some really nice sheets that I have worked hard on to create and it has taken me the better part of the past year to complete them.

With that being said, I know how frustrated I was when I tried finding a generator to suite my needs. If you would like to give any of these generators a try, you may email me at moffrimmer (at) viafamily.com. Include "Generators" in the subject line and in the body let me know what you are interested in. I do not always check my email often, but I will attempt to do so for the next week or two consistently -- basically, if I don't respond right away, it is really because I am fairly busy.

Anything to make the DM's job easier.

Bill

So I choose to ask Bill about his Magic Item Table and after the patience of a saint on his part (he must have tried to send to me 5 times at 2 different email adresses) I finally got these and started playing around with them. They are absolutely awsome. I did not know you could do this sort of thing with Excel really.

This is some of the most exceptional work I have seen - not only is it functional but it actually looks good on top of that. Really Bill needs to get this thing up on a website so that the community in general can pay homage to its brilliance and Bill can bask in the glory of some very well deserved recognition.
