Dragon Magazine Archive, Dugeon Magazine and Article indexes or databases

I own the Dragon Magazine Archive and I love it. But, I am wondering if there are plans to publish Dragon Magazine issues on CD covering issues 251 to present? Are there any plans to make a CD based Dugeon Magazine Archive? I would buy it also!!! Are there indexes or databases for articles in Dragon and Dungeon magazines? Where could I get them, and I would like to download a spreadsheet or database with this info.

Hi Chris. :)

The DragonDex is a nice list of stuff that has appeared in Dragon, but it's a bit limited. If you don't know the either author, title, or issue it's really hard to find information within it. Also note that the DragonDex is not maintained by Paizo.

In my professional opinion (I'm a computer programmer who does a fair amount of database design work), it wouldn't be hard to make a searchable database - but it would be hard to make it good. A simple database would have things like author's name, article title, issue number, page number, and so on. A really good database, though, would also contain a bunch of "meta" tags you could search. These would be key terms and phrases about the article. For example, you would probably want to be able to search a database of Dungeon articles by the names of NPCs that appeared in the adventure. Or for a more difficult one, what about getting a list of every dungeon adventure that has ever featured kobolds? That's what I mean by making it a good database.

Of course, that's just my opinion based on the stuff I know (relational databases, mostly Oracle). It's possible the folks at Paizo have some cool tool that make it much easier. ;)

There are currently no plans to do either, as there are issues with the rights for some of the content. (This is the same reason that the first compilation CD remains out of print.)

Issues' Tables of Contents are browsable in the backissues listing on paizo.com, and they may also be searched with the search box on the upper left. (Tip: Set the pop-up below the search button to the magazine of your choice.)
