Campaign Components

Dragon Magazine General Discussion

I wrote a similar post on Dungeon. Here's why.

Me and my brother sent a query to dragon a while back, giving four article proposals. One of them was a "campaign components" idea, aiming to do another in a series we considered excellent. When we sent it, the response was "you should pitch this to dungeon". I submitted a thread on the dungeon messageboards about this and they suggested re-sending it to dragon, since dungeon is mostly about adventures and standalone articles don't fit in the new format.

My question: before I send in an unwanted query, is there a possibility of a CC article in Dragon, or is it a thing of history by now? I personally would love the idea, but with the new format and the huge amounts of template articles which have to be in each issue I thought it might cause a space problem.

So, is it worth resending the query?

Was it a Dungeon staff member that replied to you? If it was, I'd certainly suggest re-sending the query along with a line stating, "I submitted this query to Dungeon as per your recommendation, and Mr. Jeremy Walker," (or whoever) "suggested I re-send it to you, as it would fit better in Dragon." If possible, CC the email to the Dungeon staff member who suggested you retry it with Dragon.

I am not a staff member, but that's what I'd do in your place.

When dragon and dungeon first did the relaunch, DM articles were lost in the middle. This is because dragon claimed to be the players' magazine and dungeon the DMs' magazine, while dungeon was still more of an adventure magazine and had few DM articles.
I'm actually not completely sure if this has been resolved, but I believe dragon is now accepting DM articles. Re-sending it to dragon is probably the best idea.

Or just start your own magazine called Drangeon. Then you could print whatever you wanted and you would be the one who could reject other people's stuff.

That's a real shame because DM articles are really important and one of my first reads.

I can see why it might seem like a good idea to transfer them to Dungeon, to seperate each magazine for the type of player but in reality there isn't that clear distinction between us - many DM's are players too.

I'm interested in the DM'ing articles I used to get in Dragon but they're not enough reason for me to buy Dungeon every month, which I don't do because I've got plenty of adventure material already.

Dungeon creates adventures far quicker than any (most?)DM can run.

Just a polite (hah hah) piece of advice: I felt the same way about Dungeon when I only subscribed to Dragon. However, I picked up an issue mainly because of the Clockwork Fortress and the Vampires of Waterdeep Campaign Arc. Now, I'm hooked. The day later, I put in my subscription. So, may I suggest that you pick up a copy of Dungeon at your FLGS and check it out. If you already have, then I apologize.
