You should join Critters and have other authors of fantasy, sci-fi, and horror read and critique your work. I have found it very helpful. And some of the "critters" there are professional authors, too, so they know the biz.

You will have to read and critique several stories before yours comes up for critiquing, but this is helpful in that you get to see what others are doing right and wrong in their genre writing.

Orson Scott Card also has writers groups coordinated out of his site. I think they're quite small - only a handful of authors helping eachother out. Check it out, if you like. His website is at http://www.hatrack.com/
You also should get a copy of the Writer's Market when it comes time to submit your work.
