WANTED: Jungle Adventures. Inquire Within.

Dungeon Magazine General Discussion

Greetings. I'm looking for adventures based in a jungle setting. Does anyone know of any good Dungeon modules that take place in a jungle? Titles from all editions of the game are fine. I have no problem converting something from, say, issue #19 or something.

Thanks to all!

"Elephant's Graveyard" #15

"The Leopard Men" #22
and
"Land of the Men With Tails" #56

all come to mind immediately, and I believe they are are loosely connected.

also "Journey to the Center-of-the-World" #51 is a jungle sidetrek as is "Rogue" #??

"N'Bod's Room" #51 and "That Island Charm" #?? both involve tropical islands.

If you can get ahold of the old classic 1e adventure "I1 Dwellers of the Forbidden City", is is the quintessential jungle-setting adventure. And "C1 The Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan". That's all I can think of right now.

Also look for "Torrents of Dread" #114 and (maybe if they want it) its sequel. Both set on a tropical island.

P.S. "Vesicant" #16 doesn't say so specifically, but it always seemed jungly to me. Sort of like a Caribbean-type setting.

Oh, oh...I just remembered Rana Mor #86 and "Dragon Hunters" #104.

There's a sequel, Greg? Wow!

Erik, you will publish the sequel. ** waves hand **

Cheers,
Merric

As Greg said Rana Mor and Dragon Hunters are Jungle adventures as are the new 3 part Shards of Eberron campaign arc in issues #123, 124, 125. In fact when I was planning an Eberron game a few months ago thos first two adventures were on my list (I love the Xen'Drik concept)

greetings one and all. This is my first posting on this site, although I've been on the Enworld D&D site for some time. Since you can never have too much discussion about D&D, thought I'd join this one too :)
As the author of several of the above mentioned adventures waaay back in the early days of Dungeon, this thread caught my eye first. In addition to the articles and modules above, I'd also recommend the "Nyambe" D20 book by Chris Dolunt (with some contributions from other authors, including some monsters by me)from Atlas Games (if you can find one; it's been out for some time). This article has adventure ideas not only for the jungle, but for a whole pseudo-Africa setting.

Checking The Wyrm's Hoard (www.paladinpgm.com/wyrm) I find Demonskar Legacy, Dragon Hunters, and Temple of the Scorpion King as jungle adventures.

I'll add my voice to the requests for the sequel to "Torrents of Dread." I loved the first one (as well as Tammeraut's Fate and the Istivin campaign arc) Greg.

Second, you mentioned two of my favorite 1st Edition modules! I want to see a new adventure and campaign backdrop for the Forbidden City in the jungles near the Xaro mountains of Hepmonaland. I want to see it so much I may have to write and submit it. If I do it, I plan on using the Psionic Yuan-ti from the XPH with sidebars saying use the MM 3.5 Yuan-ti if you don't have the XPH.

I'm not opposed to seeing an adventure set in another hidden shrine of some sort in the Amedio Jungle!

Welcome Mr. Howery. I love your adventures.

Thanks, Torpedo and Merric. My fingers are crossed. I suppose I should head over the "Blackhole in the Paizo Mailroom" thread. It has been awhile since I sent it in.

I have to totally agree with you, Torpedo, on the Forbidden City. That has long been my alltime favorite adventure with Tsojcanth as a close second. As a youngster I was mesmorized by the rift city map. Half of the fun was making up new encounters and detailing additional locations and buildings in the city. I played or DMed that adventure probably a dozen times, and it continues to inspire.

If you are looking back...way back... there is also I11, Needle...X8, Drums on Fire Mountain...and I believe XSolo1, Lathan's Gold. There is always X1,Isle of Dread. I have to agree with the Forbidden City as being a wealth of oppertunities. I used it in my The Other Side Campaign whis is posted on the Campaign Journals board.

Really though, you can take almost any forest adventure and make it a jungle adventure fairly easily, and vice versa. That is one of the great things about D&D. I've used many swamp adventuers as jungle adventures as well. Just look at the Amazon Basin in South America. Lots of flooded areas there.

There was a Yan-ti series of three adventures in DUNGEON a while back. They were set in the FR in the Mire of Dead Men or something like that. I would think you could go jungle on those. and if you want to throw a twist into your game, look up the olf Temple of the Frog. That could easily be placed in a jungle.

Dwellers of the Forbidden City is likely my favorite module of all 3 editions. The whole idea of having a 'northern' enclave on the edge of an African like wilderness where the PCs could be based and go adventuring off into the jungle is a neat one, and was the inspiration behind the jungle adventures I wrote for Dungeon lo those many years ago. In fact, I used Dwellers as a starting point, and my 'Fort Thunder' was originally a Lords of the Isles outpost on Hepmonaland, where the PCs went to the Forbidden City and then elsewhere....

That's funny. Fort Thunder was a Duxchan outpost for my campaign, too. I've still got one of the old Darlene maps with Fort Thunder inked in near the Pelisso Swamp and some mountains drawn in for the rift valley. It's neat to hear about the inspiration behind an adventure and find out how close or far away your own interpretation was. Like I said. I loved your adventures. Drake is still a PC in a second edition campaign I run whenever my old college roommate is back in town (they saved him from the headhunters and he joined the party after later saving their butts in "The Leopard Men".)

He's been one of my favorite characters in the decade-old campaign after he single-handedly killed the party wizard who had "been replaced by a doppleganger". Actually they had just entered a dead magic zone and the wizard started acting funny because he was feeling ill. He adventured a long time after that without getting a share of the treasure to pay for the resurrection. Good times. All thanks to you. :-)
