Abelard Albrecht Volker (Wesley Schneider)
Male Human Paladin
Ever since you were re-assigned from Greyhawk’s magnificent Sanctum of Heironeous to the small chapel of the Invincible One in Diamond Lake, your life has been filled with boredom. It only took a few weeks to explore all of the chambers and hallways of the village’s impressive garrison, of which your temple is a small part, and you long ago finished the last of the interesting volumes in the garrison’s all-too-small library. At least you’ve managed to make a few friends.
Your best friend at the garrison is probably Velias Childramun, a middle-aged cleric who once served with your father in Greyhawk and who came to the garrison a few years ago, when the current high priest, Valkus Dun, took over from his deceased predecessor. Velias tells you not to worry too much about being “exiled” from Greyhawk, since that was also Valkus Dun’s fate. Velias has hinted several times that Dun himself sees parallels between his own early career and yours, and that he has taken a personal interest in your training and development with the church. You haven’t seen much evidence of it, though, since the high priest is very formal and has spoken to you fewer than a half-dozen times, usually about matters of religious import. You speak with Velias Childramun nearly every day, however, and the aging healer has become like a second father to you.
You are one of three paladins assigned to the chapel of Heironeous. The most experienced (and the least likable) is Mason Kleinhart VII, who is technically the second-in-command at the chapel and who doesn’t seem to like you very much. Still, the high-born warrior leads his charges with a light touch, leaving you to your own devices much of the time. Plus, he sometimes lets you read novels about saga heroes like the great Molaho Kem that his well-placed parents send to him regularly.
And then there is Mélinde, a fiery red-haired young woman who is driven to one day run the chapel and maybe the garrison itself—but she’s in no hurry. She spends most of her time at a dragonchess parlor called Lazare’s in town. She seems to like you well enough, but she clearly views you as one of the “little people,” since she’s been at this paladin business for several years, now. She is one of Valkus Dun’s most trusted advisors, which means Mason doesn’t care for her at all and views her as a political threat, which she probably is.
Your best friend is probably Dram Cicaeda, the son of the garrison’s cartographer. While the youthful scout-in-training isn’t quite as moral as you’d prefer, he is noble of spirit and might one day make a good Heironean. Even so, you enjoy his company far more than that of members of your clergy and even your congregation (which is mostly made up of garrison soldiers and a few miners and artisans from the village proper).
Three days ago, Dram Cicaeda came to you with a map and an intriguing offer. One of his associates, a woman named Tyralandi, plans to lead an excursion into a local cairn, which she believes to be laden with treasure. There are many such tombs in the region, but most are assumed to have been emptied centuries ago, their wealth accounting for much of Greyhawk’s now-faded splendor. Dram isn’t sure he can trust this Tyralandi, and asked you to accompany him to a meeting about exploring the cairn. He also wants you to be a part of his expedition.
No one truly knows who built the ancient cairns. You’re certainly interested in finding out.

At the risk of drdging up a thousand post long "My Paladin sneezed without putting his hand over his mouth, and my GM made be fall" discussion, I can think of tons of justifications for a Paladin to raid a tomb, especially since it's not like, a tomb of a great hero of a LG god.
Raiding a tomb is certainly more heroic than sitting around a bar playing dragonchess all day.
Poor Paladins. They're supposed to be leaders and paragons of justice, good, and... whatever, but we can't help making fun of them.

Obscure, are you a fortune teller, or a Paizo plant? Nice prediction. :)
So is Wes gonna roll up a new character? It sounds like you guys might need a Rogue. . . especially if the Scout keeps getting hit by falling Dwarves.

It was that level of Psion I took last week...(sorry, "Order of the Stick" inside joke). No, actually news of Abelard's death was let slip a while ago on the boards, and even in one of Eric's editorials (issue 122, I think).

Ah yes... Erik Mona DMs Greyhawk. Thanks, Obscure. I found that post back in February after a search. As for my other quesiton... that was JUST answered on the same post. Wes character is called Tasslio, or something similar... a cleric.
Is Erik doing another character background for Wes? With the possibility of future TPK's, I hope not. . . for his sake.

Male Human PaladinThis is a minor note, but what a great name for a paladin. Too bad he's KIA. I would've looked forward to reading about his exploits in the upcoming journals...Tales from the Good is neither weak, inconvenient, nor stupid Club. Alas...
Rest well Abelard,
