Old Dungeon Issues on CD-ROM

Dungeon Magazine General Discussion

Sovereign Court

Hi there,

I am aware of the fact that this topic caused quite some discussion on this board when appearing here in the end of 2004.

I was taken somewhat by surprise, though, when reading that old Dragon issues could be ordered as .pdf-files by now (was it on http://www.drivethrurpg.com/ ? I am not sure about the shop address). Back in 2004 your explanation for not publishing old Dungeon and Dragon issues on CD-ROM was, that there had been some severe copy right issues after publishing the Dragon CD-ROM. Apparently these problems are solved by now (why would there be Dragon issues available for download). So my question is:

When will you offer a Dungeon CD-ROM, e.g. containing issues 1 to 100? This should not be a problem any more considering the availability of those electronic Dragon back issues, should it?

Looking forward to your (the Paizo stuff's) reply,

I think the announcement you read about was about electronic back issues becoming available here on paizo.com.

The deal on that is that Wizards has given us the ability to reprint older issues *if* we are able to clear the copyright issues, and if the issue is out of stock as a back issue. It isn't an easy task, but we do have someone working on it, starting with easier stuff (meaning newer stuff). So the bad news is that this means that we're not going to have hundreds of issues available overnight, but the good news is that we will, over time, be building up the downloads library. The best news is that this applies to Dungeon as well as Dragon, so as soon as we clear some of the out-of-print Dungeons, we'll start offering them up.

We do not currently have the rights to produce a CD-ROM - even one containing just issues that we have cleared.

I'm glad to hear there will be electronic versions of the issues. Any idea what issue you'll be starting on?

Is there any chance that you might start posting electronic versions of new issues or are you only able to publish electronic versions if you meet Wizards' conditions? It'd be really nice to just have the downloadable issues and print out only the adventures, maps, and NPC's I need.

Just how far back issue-wise are you allowed to go in releasing the electronic format for sale? I seem to remember reading somewhere that for Dragon only issue 298 and later would be available electronically.

Thanks,

Sean
