What happened to not covering up the artwork with blurbs?

I was totally down with that idea.

Confused and disappointed,

Issue #326's "blurb-free" cover was a test.

Conventional wisdom tells us that a magazine without coverlines gets creamed in the marketplace, and simply doesn't sell (the market has changed a lot since the halcyon days of Dragon, when the covers were expected to sell themselves).

Our customers tell us they hate coverlines.

So I decided, when presented with a wonderful piece of cover art, to see what would happen to our sales if we tried out a cover without coverlines.

It'll take several months before we find out for sure. In the meantime (in the interest of not losing our shirts), we're sticking with the conventional wisdom.

Is there any chance of getting a reprint of the cover art in another issue since the blurb free cover didn't get redone in it's own issue?

This is one of the better covers that have been done, in my opinion.
