Dragon Magazine General Discussion

I'd like to see articles that connect with various supplemental books WTC puts out. There ought to be something for the Book of Vile Darkness, Miniatures Handbook, XPH, Book of Exalted Deeds, etc. A feat, new spells, a race, etc. every issue related to these supplements would be great additions to the magazine.

As you might imagine, back when we began planning out the redesigns of Dungeon and Dragon, we had a bunch of meetings where we could just throw out ideas. No no, you don't understand...a bunch of meetings. ;)

Anyway, during one of those meetings, one of the ideas proposed was a revisiting support article. Sure, we occasionally throw in an article in support of a product coming out that month (or for one in the pipeline), but to my knowledge Dragon hasn't ever put in support for a product already out. So I proposed we do just that.

Fast forward to now. The redesign has been unleashed, and I'm slightly more knowledgable about the whole magazine business. Although it's quite possible for us to include support of a past product, well, I can count on one hand how many articles we've seen that do that. I'd still have five fingers left over, too, by the way. ;)

So yeah, it would be neat to see an article here and there in support of older Wizards of the Coast products (and no, let's not get into a discussion here about third-party products...that has been addressed elsewhere on these messageboards). Unfortunately, it appears that nobody seems terribly interested in writing them. On the other hand, maybe they just haven't made it through the proposal stage, and thus I haven't seen them.

Well, that's not all entirely true. Savage Species gets "support" with all the monster-as-class articles, but those are more in support of a specific rules mechanic that just happened to be presented in that book than of the book itself. :)

This would be very interesting. Perhaps you could use sales figures to drive a solicitation process wherein you let it be known what products you are looking for product support for?

I shall keep this in mind the next time I submit a query. :)
