His recent StarWars novels were both excellent. Star By Star was probably the best novel in the New Jedi Order series. I loved Tattoine Ghost i thought he did an excellent job of tying the Prequel era in StarWars even closer to the orginal trilogy. I also greatly enjoyed the Cormyr series of books of which he wrote the second book and co-authored the third with Ed Greenwood. He does have a bad habit of killing off characters i like though heheh :) i will leave it at that don't want to spoil any of the books for anyone

I read the entire New Jedi Order series, and I found STAR BY STAR to be one of the low-points in the series for me. To each his own, I suppose. The real stand-outs to me were James Luceno's AGENTS OF CHAOS, Greg Keyes' EDGE OF VICTORY, and Matthew Stover's TRAITOR. On reflection, I'll rank Keyes' contribution highest. I will definitely seek out more of his work.
-> Ray.

I enjoyed the New Jedi Order series as a whole. I guess saying Star By Star was the best in the series may have been a litle over enthusiastic. I just like Troy Dennings work :)
Traitor was very well written and is probably my second favorite of the series. I also greatly enjoyed Matthew Stovers Clone Wars novel Shatterpoint. He really showed why Mace Windu is considered to be such a "bad a**". I really liked how we got to see into Mace's head.

I haven't read Denning's Star Wars material, but his Forgotten Realms novels are the worst in the library. With the possible exception of Dragonwall, Denning's book are all bad. Beyond the High Road was hideously painful to read. Return of the Archwizards was absolutely awful. I remember trying to read Sorcerer while doing my laundry in college, and I actually hurled the book across the room when I read the scene where the Chosen are riding in Galeron's stomach, all shrunk down and such. Phaerimm and Chosen trading fireballs and lightning bolts... AWFUL series.
And people wonder why he's not writing FR books anymore.
