Thanks a ton guys! I'm pretty much up to date on the hardcovers and whatnot, but I'm a little behind on the adventure path modules (just picked up the first adventure in Kingmaker). I'll be making a point of getting #33 one in the near future :) The locations were the most important thing, so that was a big help!
Hey everybody! While thumbing through the Bestiary, I noticed that (as usual), Pathfinder had really breathed new life into a classic monster both with updated art and flavor. Specifically, I'm now seeing a cyclops as a valid building block for a memorable NPC, whereas before that never would have even crossed my mind. I've been toying with the idea of making my own home brew "adventure path," complete with six adventures, fiction, player's guide, etc. for some time now, and I think I've finally got the right inspiration. While searching through all my Paizo books, I could only really find one reference to the cyclopes of Golarion (side note - how fun is it that adding an "e" makes something plural?), and that was towards the end of the Campaign Setting in the "Beyond the Inner Sea" segment. Is anyone aware of any other official sources dealing the history of the cyclops race as a whole, individual cyclopes, or locations of cyclops cities? Any info would be immensely helpful, either from fans or if any of the writers could offer any insider insight on how Pathfinder deals with the cyclops race. Thanks for your time!
I had no idea there were so many anti-evil gamers out there. To each his own I suppose, but personally I love playing an evil game. I've been DMing our same Monday night group for four years now and there's almost always several evil characters in the party, if they aren't all outright evil. We started playing Curse of The Crimson Throne a few weeks back (we haven't been doing the Adventure Paths in order) with a group consisting of four rogues and a sorcerer. First thing they do when they reach Korvosa? Masquerade as priests of Abadar from another city to abduct other priests and offer them up as a sacrifice to an arch devil in the hopes of creating a Faustian pact and getting a free feat out of the deal. It's been a very fun and rewarding challenge for me to DM this game, as some of the characters actually worship Zon-Kuthon, which has made me have to think quick on my toes to have them actually oppose Queen Illeosa. A couple of people mentioned how you can't keep a party going if they are busy trying to backstab kings, assassinate guardsmen, or generally be massive nuisances at every opportunity. I couldn't possibly disagree more. Some of the most fun parts of the game come from watching the players have to deal with the consequences of their actions. So they tried to kill and rob the high priest who has the information they need? Make them pay for it. Besides having to fight their way out if discovered, they will clearly either have to sneak around the town from then on or get some pretty convincing disguises if they don't want to be attacked on sight. Then have them get the information some other way, but make it harder this time. Situations like these not only lead to some of the most humorous situations, but can also give rise to serious and dark role playing if you want to take it that direction. Everything is always focused on the characters saving the world just because they can, but I don't see any reason why these characters wouldn't want to start their own criminal organizations or create a legacy of mayhem to put the biggest Golarion villains to shame. For the record - I'm all for an evil oriented AP (as the modules tend to be much more combat focused and have much less role playing opportunity than the adventure paths themselves). Totally off topic (apologies) but since we're talking about APs we'd like to see (or at least were way back at the beginning of this) - when are we going to get an all planar AP? I miss Planescape, badly, and Paizo's stuff is consistently better than any other gaming company out there, so if anyone can make an awesome planar campaign, it's you fine folks.
I'd love to see an adventure path that is primarily or even exclusively based on the planes. I miss the days of Planescape, and if anyone could bring that flavor back (and even improve on it), it's Paizo. Something that really brings out the true oddity and grandeur of the planes (as opposed to something that just has big planar monsters instead of normal critters) would be ideal.
I bought the Map Pack for Rise of the Runelords not too long ago, and I'm loving being able to just hand the maps out without having to make copies from the book myself. What I'd really like to see added to the Map Packs however is the pictures from each Pathfinder issue of the NPC's, events, and monsters. I may be in the minority here as a DM so it may not be a viable venture for Paizo, but I like to have as many visual aids for my players as possible. They get way more into the game if they can connect a face to a name or have a physical representation of a menacing monster, instead of just a general idea in their heads of how it's supposed to look. For the entire Rise of the Runelords campaign I have been scanning the images from the issues, editing them in Photoshop to remove the text around them, printing them out, and then cutting them up and pasting them on those foam lined cardboard pieces used for science fair projects. I put the names of the characters or the type of creature they are next to the picture, then leave enough space for the players to write in their own notes so they don't ever forget pertinent information about that character. It would be a big time (and ink!) saver for me if these were all pre-printed with the maps. In fact, I'd love to see ALL of the major Pathfinder characters, and not just the ones drawn in the issues, get their own drawings, as some of them I've had to find suitable replacement pictures for by scouring the internet for appropriate images. |
