The thing I absolutely hate the most about the writing process is trying to figure out a title. I hate almost every title of every story I've ever written. I can never seem to make them work.
I definitely agree with that - the title is the part I'm least proud of in my story. I put it in as a placeholder and never figured out something better before the deadline.

Wow. I wasn't all that proud of my story, but I at least hoped to place. Bloody hell...well, good job to everyone who did place, and a definite gratz to Neil. I figured he'd win, honestly, as awesome as his stuff tends to be.
Bleh...if I sound sour, I don't really mean it. Took a bit of a blow to the confidence, but I'm fine, lol. And I do mean the congratulations. I never win anything, so I don't know why I expected anything different this time around. If anyone's interested, I posted my story, Eyes of the Beast on my deviantart page. It got some good feedback from those I showed it to before submitting, so I figure it's decent at least...

Runner up is kinda cool given that I really didn't expect to place, and that word limit came down on me luck a ton of bricks for the story that I wanted to tell. It was fun to write though. :)
And yes, feedback please, only way to get better. :D
ok feedback... one of this days, in the meantime Todd, in the bottom of your story is Sutters own feedback.
now i head to sleep
I am exhausted

Can anyone else see who placed #1? I don't see it anywhere.
Edit: Well, congrats to whomever it is that won, and to the rest of the finalists, as well. I'm quite enjoying what I've read so far.
1st Place was for Neil's Rain of Redemption, the story would be posted 1st on Wayfinder #4 :)
And congratz to the winners and to every one who worked hard on your stories, there is a lot of great work here :)

What the...?!?!
Seriously?!?
You can't be serious...
Seriously?!?!
::gobsmacked::
No freakin' way...
personally, this was my favorite entry, but James Sutter express my thoughs clearly...
1. Rain of Redemption - This was really solidly written. Ultimately, it was that solidity and polish that won the day--though the story and characters weren't as unique as some of the other entries, it's important to remember that editors are fundamentally lazy and crunched for time, and I'll almost always buy a piece that's pretty good and clean than a story that's even better but requires a ton of advice and revision. In this story, everything works. The revelation of her fall from the faith is a touch rough (but only a touch), and the otherwise quality dialogue gets a little stilted once the bad guy comes onstage, but otherwise there's not a lot to critique in this piece. I particularly like the ghoul's use of the tree branch to tangle her up early on--I love seeing fight scenes that engage with their environment, and which aren't just generic hack-and-slash.

I pretty much called it (Neil Spicer to win) on an earlier post in this thread.
Since I recognise at least two of the other names in the top 5 (Todd Stewart and Eric Morton) as a contributor and another RPGSuperstar contestant, I think this makes the case that Paizo should pay more attention to the industry professionals they already have working for them or on their radar if they want fiction.
And Congratulations to Neil on yet another contest win... :D

Definitly a big congrats to the winners and honorable mentions. It's amazing that so many people took a shot at this, and that certainly bodes well for Pathfinder and the Chronicler.
I do have one question: Did the judges record feedback for all the entries, or just the winners/runners-up/honorable mentions?

Now to get this story submitted to chronicler...
Registered and waiting for approval from the big guns.
To be frank, even though I'm proud of my story, I'm not terribly surprised it didn't get any mention. I had to trim a great deal to get it under the 4500 word count, and that's hard to do in a sprawling noir-ish murder mystery. I have a feeling the plot may have suffered a bit as a result. There's also the fact that, for some stranger reason, I tried a completely different writing process and style than my normal one. But I couldn't help that, the protagonist's voice wouldn't let me do it any other way...

Both Ted and I have some notes on the winners, but I surely recheck some of the stories for more specifics, one of the most important thing about this contest is that it becomes a learning experience for us all.

Done! and Welcome :)
As a member of Pathfinder Chronicler I want to make sure the in-house judges get a round of applause. Zux, Montalve and Curn Bounder busted their butts to give all the contestants' stories the attention they deserved. Their fellowship and participation on our boards was sorely missed. Well done!
Thanks Nico, without your support and Malik's (an later Valmar and RC Jr) this would have been a lot harder! :)

@ Trench and other entrants.
Good on ya!!
I might sound repetitive and it might not be that comforting, but y'all should again understand how close the entire contest was (at least as far as the five early judges--I can't speak for the good Mr. Sutter--who I also want to thank for donating his time and efforts to the Paizo/Pathfinder fan community.)
It is disappointing to the runner who comes in .02 seconds behind the winner, but he still ran a good race.
You all should be very proud of the writing you did. As any writer will tell you, entire walls can be papered with rejection slips. Just keep writing. Keep editing. Share your work with the world.
Ted has created something very useful, very democratic (by which I mean we all have an equal voice), and very enjoyable. Come by and see us sometime.
