Also, all the 5e Open Game License stuff is now available in RPG Books. Working on massaging all d20 Modern content to put in there as well.

Search displays results in both old and new content hierarchy. Search for http://paizo.com/search?q=Vargouille&what=prd

The top two results are the same monster, but in the old and new locations /prd/monsters/vargouille.html and /prd/bestiary/vargouille.html, respectively.

I suspect this is because the old /monsters folder is still lying so its content gets indexed? A couple of the other old folders are still there as well.

Missing damage in poison for Vargouille
http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/bestiary/vargouille.html#vargouille

> Poison (Su) Bite—injury; save Fort DC 12; frequency once; effect damage caused by bite can only be healed with magic if the spellcaster succeeds on a DC 20 caster level check; cure 1 save. The save DC is Constitution-based.

It says "effect" instead of actually listing the amount of damage.

Thanks for the praise, @Lorathorn!

@n00bxqb, RPG Books is free to download and both the Pathfinder core book and Bestiary is included. So, playing vanilla Pathfinder is free, lowering the bar for newcomers. But, if you're happy with the other app nothing could be better :)

Sorry to be a Negative Nancy, but...

I'm pretty sure I have an app for all the info that's on the prd for free on my Android devices.

Just checked my phone and yes I have three. One that just has the prd, one with all the feats and archetypes from the previous and splat books, and one that has spells from the prd and splat books.

Pro tip, all in a friendly spirit: There's nothing like a few kind words and a few bucks to keep a developer committed to that app you find useful. If you're happy with your three free android apps, good for you. But even better, give the devs some praise and don't take their effort for granted. Not judging you - you might be the best dev-praiser ever - just sayin' :)

I just wanted to tell the community that the iOS Pathfinder reference app previously known as PFR has been renamed to RPG Books, and is now free!

Included in the free download is the Pathfinder Core rulebook and the first Bestiary. This means that running a vanilla game of Pathfinder from you iPhone or iPad is no longer just fast and easy, it is also free. Free as in beer!

In addition, the app offers in-app purchase of all books available on from the Paizo PRD site. Also, with this latest release, the d20 v3.5 rules and a handful of supplementary books for that system is also available within the app.

Do you own an iOS thingy? Give RPG Books a try, it’ll cost you nothing and there are no ads.

As has always been the case during the six year life of this app, I’m very happy to receive any kind of praise, critique or feature requests.

Adventures ahoy!

Do you need of a Gnome ancestry for Shadow of the Demon Lord? I did, so I created one:

Feel free to use and revamp! Any comments or suggestions are very welcome.

Stunning barrier (http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/advancedClassGuide/spells/stunningBarrie r.html) is listed as a level 0 spell (instead of level 1) on this page http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/indices/spelllists.html

The Ki Stand feat from Ultimate Magic is missing from the global feat index.

Tybalds Hallow

What used to be a sleepy outpost of civilization, mostly getting by on barley, potatoes and sardines, have recently turned in to a busy commercial hub after a substantial silver ore was discovered in the hills just west of the mountains. Merchants, burglars, pimps and other middlemen are establishing shop in the small town, and the local sheriff Brigolda Twotooth is having a hard time keeping order.

Added to this, is the discovery of a strange phenomenon dubbed as the Earth Vortex, a slow churning maelstorm of earth and rocks grinding away at the lands in the north-west. A newly arrived adventuring party was sent up there to explore it, but have not been heard from.

As if this was not enough, the mill up by Beaver Falls was attacked two nights ago. The millers two daughters managed to escape, but the miller himself, good ole’ Markus, was killed in the hubbub. The attackers tried to burn the place down, but the building was saved by it’s old, sodden planks and a drizzle of rain. Who would want to do such a thing? And why?

Then there’s those new shipwrights Will and Son, ordering all that lumber. And the overly curious and handsome bard calling himself Han Xum. Is he trustworthy? And what of those extremely large hoof prints observed twice up in the crossroads? Yes Brigolda Twotooth certainly has her hands full these days!

Grab the Tybalds Hallow map over here :)

The h2 elemenet containing the "Sample AIs" text on this page http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/technologyGuide/ai.html has a misspelled id attribute: "sampe-ais".

Still cranking out new versions: v4.8 is out now. Fixed a few bugs. Latest version of the PRD. d100 die roller. Enjoy!

The html on prd/additionalMonsters/inevitable.html is a bit messed up. This part <div><h1 id="inevitable-arbiter"...

is not located where it should be in the DOM, namely inside <div class="body">

rather, it's a sibling of the above element and a direct child under <div class="body-content">.

I'm the creator of the PFR app. I have a huge script which churns thru the entire PRD content in order to make it light and suitable for iOS. That's why I notice these really, really bizarre markup errors :)

Brilliant @Chris Lambertz! Thanks a lot for the Advanced Class Guide!

I found one erroneous link for ya:
prd/advancedClassGuide/designingClasses should probably have been named prd/advancedClassGuide/designingClasses.html

The slotless wondrous items page http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/ultimateEquipment/wondrousItems/slotless .html would be a lot more useful if item names in the table were links.

918. Prosit!

Involuntary bodily sounds, such as sneezing and coughing, come out oddly distorted. Someone proficient in the infernal language of demons may or may not notice that the sounds originate from someone/someplace/sometime else and might be despairing calls for help, sinister curses or unflinching blasphemy.

I’ve played all versions of D&D. Even did 30 sessions of 4e, but eventually threw it away in frustration that it did not make our games more fun.

Been playing Pathfinder ever since, which is good, but high level combat is sooo slow I find it almost unbearable.

I’ve now read thru the free 5e rules and I think they seem like an old-school-ification of 3.5e. Which suits me fine. Will give the game a spin first chance I get. Hardest part will be convincing me rpg-conservative friends to try this new green eggs and ham stuff :)

Does anyone know if the rules content (monster stat-blocks etc) of this book is published under the OGL?

Gem of Starry Fangs

My thoughts:
Right of the bat: I really like this item. There are several issues, but I smile when I imagine a combat where this item is seeing action. Win!

A couple of issues:

It's not entirely clear to me if the summoner must wait for ten minutes (or chop off the tongue) in order to deactivate the item.

Who gets to decide which targets the maw will go for?

The maw cant be destroyed, but can the gem be broken in order to free a not-yet-devoured prisoner?

How much space (area) does the deployed maw take up?

The name does not do the item 100% justice, it deserves something that makes you go "riiiight, this item I want..". Also, not sure if it should be a gem? Maybe the flesh-to-stoned head of a lamprey?

Maw-maw! Named after the sound of someone being swallowed :)

Anyway, thanks for submitting this, I really dig the idea! Polish it use it. I probably will!

When I originally read the item during voting, I passed on it a lot because I didn't like the potential for abuse. I'm taking a look at this now and making an effort to make a better case for that.

Effort much appreciated!

MrCab wrote:

I think you have a good concept here for the low level spells that just remove bad status ailments like poison or paralysis. Just keep an eye out for the higher level tricks, or at least mention that expensive material components must somehow be provided. Also keep in mind that an item like this suffers from the same problem 3.5 Polymorph did - the more books that get published, the more power this item gains from new healing spells getting published.

This item didn't stink, it just needs to be thought out more. I like what you said in your comment about the 24 hour limit meaning it's not a "give me your ring for a second" item, I didn't even think of that. Enter again next year!

Thanks a lot for the wise feedback! Yeah, I see there may indeed be loopholes here with regards to bypassing expenditure of pricey components. I hadn't thought of this, very good point.

I'll certainly enter again next year. Thanks for the encouragement!

Feros wrote:
Torc of Ammple Remedy Not a bad item that enhances a cleric's ability to cast the various cure spells spontaneously to cure various conditions as well as heal hit points. But the only impressive effect is Empower, which means this is just a good magic item to have, not something that impresses people with cool imagery. Also, why does it need 24 hours to activate? That doesn’t fit the nature of the powers involved.

Thanks for the kind and insightful feedback, Feros!

The item does not enhance a clerics ability to cast healing spells. The item only affects incoming magic (from spells, wands, scrolls, potions etc) on the wearer. Letting the wearer convert, say the Cure Serious Wounds spell to Remove Paralysis. Same thing goes for empower, only spells on self are empowered, not spells cast by the wearer on others.

I figured a 24 hour limit would be good, else this becomes an item that is passed around to every member of a party, so they each can get the empowered benefit from healing (cleric spells cast, potions quaffed) after combat. I feel that the "let me borrow your ring for just a second"-items often help degenerate an otherwise good story into pile of technicalities.

I absolutely agree that this item is missing the impressive imagery. Will definitely work on that aspect for my 2015 submission!

This is my submission for the RPG Superstar 2014. I participated for the first time in 2013 with an item that stank :) I had slightly higher expectations this year, but feel I am still not quite there.

Any feedback which may help me improve would be greatly appreciated!

Torc of Ample Remedy
Aura Strong conjuration; CL 7th
Slot Neck; Price 32000 gp; Weight 1 lb.
Description

Ancient curative runes are engraved along the arc of this golden torc, and a yellow gem adorns each end.

Whenever targeted by a spell of the conjuration (healing) school, the wearer may instead choose to be affected by another spell of the same school. Choosing a spell is not an action, but requires the wearer to be concious. The chosen spell must be of equal or lower level than the original spell. E.g. upon drinking a Potion of Cure Moderate Wounds the wearer may instead choose to be affected by Remove Paralysis.

Also, all conjuration (healing) spells that target the wearer are empowered as though using the Empower Spell feat. This only applies to the wearer of the torc, even if the spell also affects other creatures.

The Torc of Ample Remedy must be worn for 24 hours before its powers manifest.

Construction
Requirements Craft Wondrous Items, Imbue with Spell Ability, Empower Spell; Cost 16000 gp

1 Question: Why would a naga or her goblins have 2 pits of alchemical sludge that when mixed explode? Is there an alchemist among them or did they figure it out by accident and now they have areas where they dump the 2 substances on intruders to make them blow up?

My original thought was that the sludge has been there for a long time. Perhaps installed/created by an alchemist who was funded by a local lord to produce explosives, but said lord would not allow such experimentation to take place in proximity of his land and keep?

I did in fact put some players of mine through this dungeon a couple of weeks ago. They encountered the place when an unmanned wagon came rolling down a slanting field towards them. Under a tarp on the wagon were four barrels of each of the two sludges. The wagon was trivial to dodge, but the explosion, when the wagon smashed into the rocks where our heroes where camping out, was both significant and unexpected.

Naturally, they had to find out who attempted to murder them, and followed the tracks back to the caverns :-)

If so, grab this map I just created, and the small adventure intro if you're also a module short!

The Dread Temple Caverns

Originally constructed by the dwarven outcast Banz Schteinkopf half a century ago, these caverns have seen a lot of different residents since. A couple of years ago some goblinoids moved in. One evening, when they woke up, a large snake with a gorgeous female head was staring at them. She bade them kneel, and they did. In fact so overwhelming was Her charm that they did all She asked, and fought each other in order to please Her when orders where absent.

She ordered them kidnap travellers, and the prisoners flesh made Her satisfied and sleepy. But the blood of the prisoners was bottled and corked...

Now, years later, She has charmed a priest into service. Together, they await the oncoming constellation when the serpent is high and the waning moon is low on the sky. Then all the bottles, vintage and fresh alike, will be decantered just so onto the altar, and the Dutchess of Serpents will appear, and lo, all the guile and poison and violence of snakes shall be imparted upon them.

Yes, the time draws near. As luck would have it, a band of adventurers stumble upon these caverns. Will they be in time to stop the sanguine ritual? Or will they succumb to Her charms, and fill Her belly and Her bottles, like so many before them?

Snag the map here.

This map has also been posted over at the Cartographers Guild.

v2.9 of PFR is just around the corner now. It has the newest errata/corrections, the Advanced Race Guide available and a few minor bugfixes.

I gotta hand it to me: I've been a really good boy with this app, cranking out new features and adding content at a steady pace ever since the app came out two and a half years ago! Hope y'all still find it useful!

w00t!

  • The global index (/indices) does not yet contain the feats or spells from ARG.
  • It would be very useful if Bestiary 2 and 3 content could be looked up by Type, CR and Terrain. Just like the original monster collection.
  • There's some messed up markup in all the h2 elements in advancedRaceGuide/raceBuilder/exampleRaces.html e.g. <h2 id=gnomes">Gnomes</h2>

Thanks for all the good advice. I think I'll go with vanilla bard, and the Serpentine bloodline. Will definitely dump strength. Dirge bard is pretty cool, and tempting, but not really what I had in mind this time around :-)

Thanks Quandary and Exocrats for the insight! I agree I should face my destiny and just dump the strength.

Magician would be perfect, but it's a bit tough to loose the party buff (to hit & damage wise) granted by inspire courage, no? It's one of the main features of a PC bard, as I see it..

The Eldritch Heritage feat sounds very nice! But can this really be taken by a sorcerer, thus getting benefits from several bloodlines?

Also, I agree that Extra Performance is only necessary at low levels and that Lingering Spell can be useful on higer levels.

The bloodline which lets undead be targeted by enchantment spells sounds like a very good plan! Are there several who do this? Guess I'll have to really dig into the bloodline stuff from all the books now 8-)

I'm creating a first level character for a new campaign and would really appreciate some input on getting the most out of this, within the limits I'm operating. And the limits are these:
- 6 points stat buy.
- Human only.
- Multiclass bard/sorcerer, but mainly a bard.
- Bard can never be more than double the level of the sorcerer.

So far I've set up these stats:
Str: 10
Dex: 10
Con: 13
Int: 10
Wis: 10
Chr: 13

...or should there maybe be some dex or wis in there?

For feats, I'm thinking Extra Performance and Lingering Performance, but I'm not really sure if I need both?

Regarding bard archetype and sorcerer bloodline, I'm completely stumped; any suggestion would be very welcome indeed.

And then there are spells: What to choose, from which class?

Can anyone help me out?

Version 2.6 has now been submitted to the app store. ETA 6 days.

★ Increased button size on the iPad toolbar.

★ Latest print errata and some other corrections.
