Unfortunately I cannot afford to keep getting Pathfinder right now. I am hoping to eventually be able to afford it again but for now I must stop.

Thank You

Just what the topic says. It seems to me the more I read, that 4e is way more complicated than any other version. There is more to constantly keep track of, how many times you do this or that, and all the little piddly bonuses that may or may not effect things. Whether or not they stack and how and so forth and so on. Sure some of these things occurred before, but not to this degree, not to the point that everyone had to do it all the time. Being basically forced to use miniatures also complicates (IE slows down) things.

How is this making things simpler?

I am still trying to see what others are seeing in the system but I'm not seeing it. The WotC site being defective and not letting me on even though I'm logged in is definitly not helping, but I have been mulling this topic over in my head aslong as I've been hearing about powers and how the game was to work and I just finally gave in and asked.

again I ask

How is this making things simpler?

Anyone heard any news on this front? Next to homemade and some of Greyhawk, Ravenloft is my favorite world easy. Has anyone heard any news abotu what's to be done with the Demiplane of Dread?

Of course I'm looking across the room at my "Hollow world" Box set and thinking that might be interesting to do in 4e (not that that setting has been touched by anyone official in years).

So... unless you burn feats to get them, you never gain any more skills after first level? Or am I missing the part that says you get more?

Since I had accidentally hi-jacked that other thread I though I should make this one to ask this question in.

Anyone have any games open or planning to start any 4E games? I'd love to get in on one just to get a better feel for the rules. I learn by doing more than reading. I'm figuring playing it some should help me get a grip on it.

okay I love the ideas of rituals, I think they have been a long time coming. That said, some things that are rituals now... should they be? I ask this partly because of time restraints. Lets look at a perfectly paired example.
Arcane Lock, and Knock.

Neither of these can be used quickly, 10 minutes to cast from a book, and 5 from a scroll. It is no longer possible to lock a door from the things chasing you quickly and use that to help you either rest or get some extra distance.

another often time important example
Comprehend Language
is that "raving whateverthingy" going to sit around and let you preform a 10 minute ritual so you can begin to understand it? It seems somewhat less useful now.

anyone else agree, disagree?

What kinds of games are you planning on running now? What options do you see as now available to do under 4E? Is there something that it can do easier/better than prior editions? Tell me your ideas about what 4E can do. I would like to know others ideas. I am trying to be open to the system. My books should be here tomorrow. I have looked through them some already, unfortunately I have only been able to notice more faults than pluses. Please help me see what other benefits there are. I am trying to get beyond the "they are turning it into a grinding video game" idea that I have atm.

This is serious request. Show me the potential!

edit: bad title sound like cave guy mmm letter go missing
bleck
im not really stupid
:)

Okay so I know they have that, "we will bring out more stuff as the month goes on" thing for the new D&D "mags" but... Dungeon with no adventures yet for the new 4E games? just hints how to use keep, which you have to buy. okay some others seem to be eventually coming out, but neither of them are starter missions. no love for 1st level games?
I hope they do better next month.

I ask because I have recently begun looking over the Earthdawn stuff. It's a wonder I hadn't done it before, being a Shadowrun nut. That is actually why I am, on Dumpshock there had been talk of relevancy in ED to SR. So I pick up some stuff and am looking through it and from what I can see so far the ideas look very similar. Each Discipline (class) has it's own special magic-ish abilities.

I'm not saying they are exactly the same but it just struck me, the resemblance. Can anyone else shed some light on this? Someone more knowledgeable than I am.

I asked this in another thread but don't think I got an answer. Is the OGL staying as it is, for 3.5 forever, or? I mean, can companies still keep producing 3.5 stuff from now on or do they have to move to the 4 gsl rules?

Okay so, we have Ghouls and Ghasts which hunger for the flesh of the living, is there anything similar that devours the flesh of the nearly deceased?(or even later) I had misremembered that ghouls did. I think I confused them with their Shadowrun counterparts. Any ideas?

Essentially I have something(s) stealing the corpses from a graveyard for food. Or atleast thats the idea I have in my head.

are there any good rules out there for this?
I dont want to make a flesh golem, I want people out of parts
or well creatures or whatever. Just not plain old golems

any ideas on books?

thanks

what code do you use to make this?
thanks

Anyone know of any good places to find good examples of what has been done with sentient items. It goes back to a suggestion someone made in another thread of mine when I was looking for armor that would allow a user to cast, why not have sentient armor and have the armor be the actual villain? I've been coming up with ideas for this but figured I'd see if anyone knew of some places where this has been done, and some decent resources for this kind of info. It doesnt have to be just evil items either.

thanks!

does any one remember which issue she was in? I catn remember for the life of me.

I haven't located any as yet. I can never seem to find things, at least when I am actually looking for them. I know we used to have this in AD&D does anyone know where I might find a listing for or a way to create magic armor that allows a caster to wear it with no penalty? Yes this is for a villain, and no I don't plan on letting my players get it. heh

Does anyone know what coins weigh? How do you handle this in your game? the question came up and I hadn't really thought about it since the D&D days and cant remember what we used then even.

NOOO not those kind. I mean like funny family names you'd give dwarves or halflings or elves or whatever. Like Our old DM had a whole clan of dwarves who were the "Ballzout Clan". I had a dwarven clan named Stonewhacker. Anyone else have any good ones they want to share?

Thanks to things brought out by all this 4E talk I've decided to name either a dwarven first name, or possibly a whole clan of dwarves with the "Grognard" name. I can see them saying things like "We've never done it that way before, so why would we start now??" Stuff like that.

:D

Many things in D&D are pronounced differently by different people
I'd always heard and assumed it was pronounced like "Tea-fling" but some people say it's pronounced as if spelled phonetically "Tie-fling".
I think the way I thought it was sounds better but then again that could be because it's what I'm used to.
how do you pronounce it?
and what about Tarrasque?

and no I don't mean "I'm positive this will suck!"
I mean, what sounds like a good thing (from what very little we've heard). Or what would you really like to see them do with it. Just thought I might try making a friendlier thread.

I miss Wild Magic.
I loved the way it was done in the 2nd edition AD&D Tome of Magic. Has it been handled so far in D20? I would really like to add it into my current game since its based off an old world we used to play in that had Wild Mages.

Thanks for any help.
