That's fantastic! Sounds like it was a great night and your experience will help me greatly in my encounter building. Thank you so much for sharing!

I am starting to wonder however if my party is getting too high in level. I thought they were actually behind, but if yours is fighting Mokmurion at level ten while mine is almost to level 9 already and they are just starting on Skull's Crossing, perhaps I'm rewarding them too much xp. Don't Pathfinder levels and 5e levels convert rather evenly?

Now on a totally seperate topic...

I have a Hexblade warlock in my party. I have decided to make his patron Alara'quin (Karzoug's glaive). This has already created some very interesting rp dynamics and I am very happy with this decision. The player has only received some brief glimpses of Alar'aquin so far and I highly doubt the player even knows yet what kind of weapon Alar'aquin is let alone what exactly it is after. I think it's only going to get better in fact and the climax (if they actually get to Karzoug) is going to be phenomenal. I'm wondering if you or anyone else might have some inspiring ideas about crafting that specific patronage that I may not have already thought of.

What would you like to know Skinnyfat?

I would like to talk through certain encounters with DMs who have already run them. My players are starting to get to higher levels, like 8-12 and I do not have much experience with that. So far I feel pretty happy with what I've put in front of them. It has been quite challenging and yet they have somehow been able to stay alive. I want to keep that going, but they just took down Lucrecia and two ogres with relative ease. I don't want to give every bad guy "legendary resistance" but I also don't want them to start thinking things are getting too easy for them. There is still the threat of death, if my rolls are good and their's are bad, but what I really want is to make them use all of their resources so that they feel a sense of accomplishment.

As the subject says. Thank you.

I finished the book about a week ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you Robin Laws and Paizo!

Sovereign Court

No time to write much of a review just yet, but I finished the book last night and loved it. Great story! The writing was excellent and the characters very intriguing. I would love to read more about them some day. Good work Howard Andrew Jones! Another fantastic addition to the Pathfinder Tales collection. I can't wait for my sister to get the extra copy of Prince of Wolves I got and sent to her. She's going to dig this stuff, I know it!

Sovereign Court

You all know that Paizo is just a pseudonym for the Hong Kong Cavaliers right?

Sovereign Court

I have no problem with the hinting at all. In fact I found it very helpful. Thank you for your response as well as the book.

Sovereign Court

I don't understand the issue with the First Person POV at all. Authors have been doing this for years now, especially in Hard Boiled/Noir type genres. Without the First Person POV the book would have been completely different. The characters would have been completely different. And to me, that would have been a very bad thing because I loved it.

Here are a couple of things I'm curious about that I might have missed as I am not the most attentive reader:

Spoiler:

1) What happened to those bad ass Paladins of Lastwall? Did Azra's strong theological argument (which I loved by the way) and threat to curse them really scare them off so completely? Their disappearance was so abrupt in fact that it just felt awkward and a little frustrating. I thought for sure we would be having a "Battle of the Five Armies" type ending with all the different parties that were involved. For as good as they were at sneaking up and ambushing Radovan, Varrian, and company wouldn't they have detected the Keeper of Secrets as well? Or at the very least would they not have been observing all the activity going on in their territory, with or without Azra's threat?

2) The Keeper of Secrets get burned again by the "steal book" spell. If I remember correctly, when the spell is used it erases the information from the original copy. So now that Radovan used it and gave the Codex back to Varrian aren't the Keeper of Secrets going to follow through on their original threats, go on a rampage against the Sczarni and generally just make life hell for all those left behind? Maybe even pursue Radovan and Varrian to Cheliax? And why did Varrian act so surprised about the "steal book" spell at the end? He himself had already used that tactic numerous times already. It was actually the most predictable element of the entire story.

Like I said, I'm not the most attentive reader. I often find myself skimming paragraphs, skipping the details and moving on to the next plot point, so it's very likely I simply missed some of the answers to my questions in the details. However, and I mean this as a credit to the author, I do not plan to re-read the book a second time. Unlike many other books I read, I was unable to effectively skim this particular novel. Every paragraph was filled with either clever dialogue or intriguing description and that's the stuff I love. So when my naturally lazy tendency to skim kicked in I would immediately return to the paragraph I attempted to skip and read it again. Thus I would say my first reading was actually worth three readings all together. Still, I could use some help with those questions above.

Sovereign Court

I don't know how accurate this is, but I found it interesting nonetheless. Kinda fun too. Apparently Noah wasn't the only one to forget the unicorn. Publishers have as well :( Perhaps Paizo can cast a resurrection spell on unicorns this year with all the new fiction coming out!

Thank you for all the great stuff on a monthly basis, but things are tight nowadays - too tight for continuous unaldurterated fantasy (no matter how kick ass it is).

Please cancel all of my subscriptions.

Thanks.

Yeah; I know....I like books...meh.

I too am considering learning the 4E system simply because of Dark Sun resurrection. Athas.org did an excellent job of keeping it on life support and now its back!!! I am incredibly excited about this, despite the fact I am a total Paizo fan boy and can't wait to start playing Pathfinder. WotC did something right for once, Dark Sun is where it's at and will thus probably get a few of my dollars, especially if I find a group to play with.

Sovereign Court

Does anyone know of a virtual tabletop that can be run on a Mac?

Sovereign Court

I too would like to get involved with Pathfinder's "virtual" Society games. I've done quite a bit of online gaming but have yet to find the need to purchase or use any software beyond adobe acrobat, MS Paint, and Teamspeak, although I am open to learning a new system if need be.

My schedule varies but tuesday and thursday nights usually work best for me. If anyone would like to get together at one of those times let me know.

Sovereign Court

I think this product is a fantastic idea. I am very excited to get my first set!

Sovereign Court

This looks awesome and I plan on being there!

Just a note: I am unavailable to play/dm until the beginning of December, what with job applications and thanksgiving travels. If people want to play before then, great. I'll just try to join in at a later time.

cheers

I wont be able to come up with a date before December second anyway so I don't think we'll have to worry about that. I'll get back to you all as soon as possible though.

Oh and Pegasus games sounds like an excellent location.

I may know someone who's interested. He's an RPG newbie, but he's enthusiastic about checking out Pathfinder. Can we set a date?

A date would be most helpfull. I just made a convert to Pathfinder last week as well and from the sound of it he really wants to get involved with the society. Only problem is that both of us are at least an hour and 45 minutes from Madison. With the right date though, I'm sure we would both be willing to make the trip.

Sovereign Court

Great! From the sound of it, we could have a pretty good rotation going. Let's pick up one more player and schedule a session. You folks living in Madison have got to know at least one other gamer who would be willing to try out a 4-hour PFS scenario.

I would love to play next week sometime (Friday, Saturday, or Sunday evening) as it will be one of the few occassions I will be able to travel so freely.

Sovereign Court

From what I understand Pathfinder Society scenarios are straight up 3.5. Pathfinder rules do not start for the scenarios until they are finalized sometime next year.

Also I agree. A DM rotation would be good and we would certainly need 4 players if we want even a chance for the entire party to survive. I'll keep an eye on this thread. Once we get another response though, we should probably move to email.

Sovereign Court

I live about an hour and a half west of Madison, but would be more than willing to drive that distance for some Society Action (depending on the date and time of course).

Sovereign Court

PC's Name : Victorino
Race : Human (shoanti)
Class : Gestalt fighter/dragon shaman
Level : 3
Circumstances of Death : Succesfully duped and betrayed by the worg when he was at half HP. He nearly survived and even stabalized once with the "loan wolf" feat and returned to half health with his dragon aura, but ultimately got it in the end, despite multiple chances.
Setting (and Adventure Path, if you're using one): Pathfinder Module, Falcon's Hollow.

Sovereign Court

What if it's not a print error but a delivery error? I just picked mine up from the post office and it looked like they had Ace Ventura Pet Detective deliver it (somewhat obscure reference I know, but it seriously does look like someone was drop kicking it all the way cross country to get it to me). What kind of options do I have for a busted binding on delivery? Can I return it and get a new one? I have big hopes of throwing this book at my players for many years to come, but I don't think it'll last even a couple tosses around the gaming table with the shape it was delivered in.

Sovereign Court

I don't know... It shouldn't be that big of a deal really. Polearms have been the weapon of choice for most soldiers throughout history, no matter how tall they are and with a little bit of training I highly doubt the weapon inhibited them that much at all.

Instead of having your player sheath his weapon, have him take the same move action it takes to sheath a weapon and instead have him jam it into the ground. He should then be able to draw his bow, fire off a shot, and then grab his polearm again with no problem. After all it's standing upright directly next to him and shouldn't take anything more than a free action to grab it again and go.

Now of course this all depends on if he's outside with soil beneath his feet, but if he's inside or underground in tight spaces than then, and only then, would I start slapping penalties on him. But I would also give them bonuses in some of those situations as well. The tight spaces can work both for and against the wielder of the polearm, it just depends on the situation I guess.

Oh and yeah, a polearm should never go in a sack, unless of course someone got clever and made a retractable polearm...

Sovereign Court

I had a character in my group who wanted to take some levels in the Sacred Exorcist prestige class, but before I would let him do so I had his church send him on a mission to exorcise Sandpoint of its devil, first. So convincing his comrades to help him out in this new quest he and the rest of the party, with the help of a local guide, travelled to "the pit" and tried to ambush the SD while it still slept during the day.

Well needless to say, the Shoanti Barbarian stumbled on some bones and woke the dang thing up before they had a chance to get in position and it nearly killed them all.

In the end though, except for the ranger who spent the entire battle with the Sandpoint Devil running away in fear, we all had a blast and the party was rewarded with even more local fame by exorcising the Devil and the cleric was allowed to level in his prestige class.

That doesn't actually take effect until March the 10th. Today. So if it shipped prior to that you won't see it. That was part of the original announcement, but many folks didn't catch it.

Actually that was an order placed TODAY, which by my calendar is March 10th...

This is my first post on these forums. I read them all the time, but I don't ever bother with posting. This thread however, is worth me posting my voice - As they say, use it or lose it.

1)No

2)I will end my Pathfinder subscription.

3)I will quite happily continue my Pathfinder subscription for as long as I can and look for ways to afford even more Paizo material!!!

Thank you for asking.
