So I'm running a homebrew game for my group and at one point they encounter an old friend who is downing a poisoned drink. No one knows it is poisoned. For a template I am using Blackfinger's Salt: https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/afflictions/poison/blackfingers-s-sa lt/ At one point the NPC, if not left alone or killed in advance by the party (it's a complicated relationship), they will begin to cough blood and die rapidly. I actually plan on setting a six-minute timer or something to add to the urgency.
My goal is to be fair but make it difficult to save this character. If someone says they use the wand to undo the Con damage I'm willing to give it to them, but that doesn't stop the bleed damage. Should I let them get away with curing that with a cure spell or stabilize, even though the bleeding is internal? Or is that too lenient? And on the flip side, if I don't let those work, would that be too harsh? It's meant to be kind of a moral grey death so I'm not worried about the character surviving, I just don't want to make a "scripted death" the party can't interact with. I guess another way of asking is if you were a player willing to expend resources on this NPC to save them, would it feel too unfair if I denied you? By extension, what other things could they do to help? I've thought of giving them a chance to roll for a Heal check but that's kind of vague... Thanks in advance!
I'm running a homebrew game based in Pathfinder rules, and the setting is a university. The players are students, all level 4. The way we have it is they have a system for classes and studying 5 days a week, and 2 days a week they have free time. I have a bigger world plot going on but am having trouble conjuring up encounters for smaller, "filler" times so it's not just roleplaying until a big event. Any ideas on what 5 students could do for encounters during "school?" I was thinking something like a noticeboard to earn a little money on weekends or maybe a professor asking for help on a project, but any other fun things? They can be serious or silly, as long as they make sense in a big university and near a small village environment. If it helps... we have a Paladin, a Lore Oracle, a Summoner, a Rogue, and a Shield-Bash specialized Fighter. Thanks in advance! :)
I'm currently in a roleplay-heavy game (so things like combat are not the biggest deal but still very present) and have reached level 4 as the 3rd party Death Mage (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/3rd-party-classes/super-genius-games/death -mage). My mage in particular is a Dhampir and has taken the Shadow Mage route. The thing is, she is a debuffer kind of character in a party that has little damage output. We have a ranger who does natural weapons for damage and a small-sized rogue. Instead of replacing her as a character I was wondering if there was a decent way to build her up in the Eldritch Knight prestige class or another way to add to her build to increase damage output. I'm not necessarily looking to minmax, mostly looking to see if the build is worthwhile or if there's another preferable option. I like that she debuffs, it's just that her debuffing isn't very helpful if someone can't follow it up with damage in combat. I'm quite open to suggestions. Thoughts?
So while facing a rust monster, my Life Oracle, in order to protect her armor (her weapons were silversheen), used her energy body revelation to turn into full energy mode so she didn't lose the armor but became somewhat immune. This was fully DM's call, since none of us knew if this was doable. Thoughts on how accurate that was? Should her energy body have protected her armor and metal items against rust in that mode? She could still be attacked, just no rust effects happened. The whole group is interested to know what the right answer is here, if there is one. Thanks!
Alright, I have a question about the Staff Magus that also has to do with rangers. I'm aiming to get to Arcane Archer. Currently I have a level 5 Ranger focusing on archery, and I need an arcane class. I have my eye on Staff Magus because I can try to get Bowstaff cast permanently on my longbow, giving him both a melee and ranged weapon. Staff Magus seems like a good multiclass option for getting into Arcane Archer, so I have some melee in case an opponent gets too close. My question is, it says Staff Magus is only able to use simple weapons. A longbow is martial ranged. Because a ranger is proficient in longbow, would that cancel that out? Also, would the Martial Weapon Proficiency feat work if the longbow proficiency doesn't cancel out the Staff magus simple weapon proficiency? Thanks for the help in advance! A bit more about my ranger if it helps: Half-Elf Male, worships Erastil
My plan is to go six levels of Ranger, one level Staff Magus, then Arcane Archer. |
