the more I read the rules for "etching runes" the more I think that you do not need magical crafting. Magical crafting appears to be needed if you are crafting a magic item like a wand, ring, staff, etc. The crafting requirements are specifically listed for some runes and it states only that expert in crafting is required. What are others thoughts?

The rules state that If I take Magical Crafting and am just starting my formula book I can choose 4 magical item formulas to know how to craft. Can I choose rune formulas or do they have to just be formulas for magic items in the magic item list. I assume I can but in herolab online, teh tool does not permit me to choose rune formulas as one or more of my starting 4 I must add rune formulas later.

Please clear this up.
