Ok different subject, we have only a limited amount of time for a campaign. I'm wanting to do a stranded in a deserted island with possibly a lost civilization. My vision for this is for the players to not be heros but just ordinary Joes and have to figure out how to survive. I'm taking it through a player and he is worried about player uniqueness. I want to do this without classes, kinda like the tv show Lost. We are running into issues though. How do you make each character unique without classes?

Ok just making sure I'm not the only one. I like crb and featured races and classes. Hybrid are pretty cool also. I usually don't mind when someone wants to create a custom race as long as it makes sense, I usually give them 13 rp to play with. I've tweaked tiefling doing so but when they want to completely revamp kobold into a viable character it just gets weird.

Anyone limit their players to just core races and classes? We have so many games where characters and abilities get out of hand from allowing third party stuff. For me an old school game with the classic races and classes make for the best games.

First time ever playing an RPG and loving it. A group of guys at work wanted something to do and I joined in. I'm the only one that has never played before but as of now I'm the highest level and usually do the most damage in battle. A little background, we started out doing simple help the town quest which turned into a you guys did great the bigger town is having a tournament. Singles and group tournament, I won the singles and we won the group. Then we needed the local magistrates help but I had to fight as his champion in as battle to the death, won that and ended up getting a manor outside of town with title of champion of the town title. We just recently failed our first quest delivering a huge holy symbol to the capital when another country sent warriors on the backs of half dragons and lifted it away. The group couldn't get a strategy in place and there were terrible rolls, two players feel off a bridge into a river and failed swim checks for times in a row. Needless to say the other country lifted the holy symbol of and flew away.

After all the xp was given out I was the only one that leveled up now a fifth level dwarf ranger. I have a large composite bow with a +3 strength to it and I switch melee with masterwork nodachi. The group consist of: human ninja, halfling cleric, human paladin (who can never roll hits), half elf druid, And a halfling Sorcerer.

Taking the next day with one of the players who gm our other game he mentioned that I'm the un official leader of our group because of my accomplishments in game and level. My problem is I don't always know what I'm doing or what we are up against because I'm a novice. Most of these guys know the weakness of our enemies and I will just get lucky. How can I be a better player and gain RPG knowledge so if my leader status continues we succeed more?

Sorry for the long post and thanks for the help.
