Ok sorry for all the questions about bombs, I'm running a game where a player is for the first time playing an alchemist and we are running into all kinds of things. I think I understand how it works now. Please tell me if I have anything wrong: 1. Bombs and their damage type (fire default) are considered thrown magic weapons. Therefore they are subject to DR of monsters but not SR because they aren't actually spells. 2. Since bombs are magic weapons and are corporeal, they can affect incorporeal undead and other incorporeal creatures but only hit for half damage as per the rules of incorporeal state. However, using either the force bomb or holy bomb discoveries would cause an incorporeal to take full damage. Incorporeal states: Even when hit by spells or magic weapons, it takes only half damage from a corporeal source (except for channel energy). Although it is not a magical attack, holy water can affect incorporeal undead. Corporeal spells and effects that do not cause damage only have a 50% chance of affecting an incorporeal creature. Force spells and effects, such as from a magic missile, affect an incorporeal creature normally. Issue was the player with fast bombs discovery and a ton of feats to increase number of attacks threw 6 bombs at a powerful wraith. He hit with 5 of the 6 doing 103 damage. Wraith is incorporeal obviously.

My friend is arguing that he wants to replace his bound item with a NON-magic item and that because it is not magic he shouldnt have to pay the full replacement cost. Whats your opinion on this?
Noob question on DR. Aside from the monk question can someone help me out with understanding how DR works normally? I read the section and am confused on what the difference is between overcoming DR and ignoring DR. Let me give an example: A 4th level rogue with a +2 magical shortbow attacks and scores a hit on a Dretch demon that has DR 5/cold iron. Does the demon get hit for full damage since he was hit with a magical weapon and DR is therefore not taken into account? If so what is the point of the section that reads in the rulebook: "Weapons with an enhancement bonus of +3 or greater can ignore some types of damage reduction, regardless of their actual material or alignment. example: +3 can overcome DR/cold iron and DR/silver
We have been playing it that a +1 weapon is all you needed to ignore DR. But now I think we have been playing it wrong. Help please.
The quote from the PF book is: "An alchemist can study a wizard's spellbook to learn any formula that is equivalent to a spell the spellbook contains. A wizard, however, cannot learn spells from a formula book. An alchemist does not need to decipher arcane writings before copying them." So does that mean: A) An alchemist can copy any spell from a wizards book to become a formula that he can use regardless of the spell copied. or B) An alchemist can copy a spell that matches the equivalent formulas in the alchemist formula list to learn that given formula. If there is no equivalent formula it cannot be learned as a formula.
What about progression at level 2 and beyond? I dont understand it, it says on the webpage: "At each new alchemist level, he gains one new formula of any level that he can create." what does that mean? if I hit 2nd level can I choose a 6th level formula? It says ANY level, please help. Does it mean if I hit level 3 I have access to 3rd level formulas like haste and fly as a 3rd level character? |
