@ Uthreth ok just wanted to make sure @caedryan enabling players to feel one or two weeks for free would count as a form of free to play and may well be what they are suggesting they are going to do making mountains out of molehills with that for the moment till they settle on what they plan. I agree the average iphone game has a cash shop thats just retardedly expensive i've played a couple card games on there (even bought some cards) till i realized i was paying more for a single electronic card i couldnt do much with than i would pay for a booster pack of a real life card game where i might actually be able to trade and sell the cards again. that being said a well done cash shop in an mmo can be quite fun and even if its just a money grab do you really begrudge goblinworks profit? i've dropped quite a bit in the cash shop in the old republic for shiny objects that i dont really need but they are fun shiny objects (that being said random boxes kind of suck never get what you want) ![]()
@uthreth while an interesting look into its style i'm wondering where dust 514 got brought in? sounded like a response to something and i must have missed it.. Definitely a lot to think about there though definitely agree with your thoughts on the kickstarter exclusives though a more limited form of destiny's twin wouldn't be out of the question (monthly purchase)Eve has started doing something similar where you can basicaly pay another subscription to get a second character training at the same time on the same account. I'd never though of such... Big items in the cash shop as the wizards tower or custom map hex.. but thats probably because they are well out of my buying range i have trouble imagining someone paying 10,000+ for a game item... then again i did wish i had the money for a tavern... ![]()
elite certificate in combat and yes they pulled some of the other ships into the required path but they also reduced the training time on several ship skills so that it was faster to get into a cruiser i think it was I'd have to look at the update but its specifically stated that was why they did it you would get into your first cruiser (maybe battleship to not sure) faster but it would take longer to get into another races ect ect ect Elite certificate in my racial combat (starter professions).. and special ops combat i did not qualify for a basic one when i stopped playing that's some major rebalance now if we're done restating things i think we're put enough time into this ![]()
actually their latest re balance with the destroyers and such splitting them into factions and such specifically stated it was to make getting them faster for new players admittedly tradeoff you can get into a single faction faster but would have to do a whole other faction line to get a similar ship rather than you have the skill do what you want. I didn't say ALL the re balances acted that way but some of them are and i am still a mining pure with very little in the way of combat skills and an elite certificate... explain that. and as for the exp boost your talking about wouldn't know haven't looked that far into them... mainly because i couldnt use them anyway. the point was that they existed.. and i never said they did a whole lot.. for anyone who's been playing or that they took you all the way up... they just do what I said I could see xp boosters in this game doing EVENTUALLY (felt the need to emphasize) getting NEW players into the thick of things a bit faster. They obviously arent stepping on the Elders toes either. (PS you can now drive a hulk with exhumer one and the other prerequisites haven't really changed that i can see so its definitely a lot faster getting into the biggest mining boat out there then again I'm still trying to figure out which one is now the "best" mining boat with all the changes and whatnot. i mean i certainly know i spent 30 days training level five of exhumers back when i did it... so not having to do that definitely speeds things up for those coming after me (oh yeah seems like a lot of skills train faster too...) hey could be wrong its been well years since i originally trained for one P.P.S. i really can't speak to carriers didn't have them the last time i played actively still looking into them ![]()
actually I'm an old player on eve.. and they DO have xp boosts for new players I'd have to look em up again but they come in the form of implants that burn out and only work if your character is under a certain age (i want to say a month is the longest one) they have also since i started playing seriously rebalanced the time it takes to get into some of the better ships/equipment as a way to help make the gap more bridgeable. i noticed because i have a huge gap in my play time and when i left (right after certificates were introduced) i couldn't qualify for basic combat certificates and now with a days training time I'm into elite. never said i thought the xp boosts should let you catch all the way up and i also pointed out they needed to be limited on how long an account has been active just at a certain point the content gets deep enough its worth it to be able to get to some higher tier stuff faster definitely not right away probably not for years but eventually ![]()
Summersnow your mistaking a cash shop for the subsctiption/game time shop different things Cash shops are usually accessible form inside the game and never (to my knowledge could be an oddball MMO or two out there) sell game time themselves game time/subscriptions are usually handled out of game through the website even PLEX is handled outside the EVE cash store i believe(though the store has links to it) My two cents on EXP boosters: something to add LATER with limits
TLDR: EXP boosters not right away but in later years with limits to make them "catch up" not "get ahead" for new players ![]()
like i said its not necessarily a rational thing the personal information that would be given would be my voice more than anything my affair with dial up ended 2 years ago which was far too long for me (being a tech head) they just didn't offer anything where i lived. I'm just weird like that i cant argue your points though i could point out several widely used reliable programs that have Trojans (or at least malware) tacked on Aim or Yahoo messengers for example (not sure if they still are yahoo used to be horrible and aim got that way) wild tangent.. the list does tend to go on... its my pride that in windows i haven't had a computer crash in the last 4 years (aside from gross hardware failures easily corrected) is that because i haven't installed teamspeak.. no but it is in part because of my paranoia...... i'm rambling time to put up the keyboard for now ![]()
not sure really part of it is probably my long history of Dial up only access part of its probably being a computer repairman and liking to know exactly whats on my system if i had it and used it for a while i'd probably be fine.. its just not something i want to install i also tend to not like giving out information over the internet i've been having fits and doing major settings work with a lot of my messenger services because they started using my name rather than my account name as a display theres probably somethign else that i dont want to look at.. like i said until recently i absolutely refused to sign up for any forum period i was kept out of several groups i wanted to join because of that too ![]()
hmm since everyone else is mentioning other games they play in no particular order here is my list Star wars all 3 versions i know of still prefer WEG Hero system (when we can stand the math to make characters) Mekton zeta Battletech rpg (even back when it was mechwarrior) Werewolf a very little vampire (never liked it but thats just me) Feng shui (damn those interior decorating Ninja) experimented with call of cthulu and about to mess with dungeon crawl classics because apparently i pre ordered the book and forgot about it feel like i'm forgetting something important but... thats all i can think of ![]()
first PnP... i believe it was DnD but could have been star wars WEG first plays for both where very close together actually my only early PnP gaming experience early on and none of it lasted more than 2-3 sessions i was a kid i did a horrible job and i loved it.. it would be something like 6 years or more before i got another taste.. and i had to make a group out of non players i collected the d&d 3.0 books but didn't start playing till 3.5 due to lack of a group don't have anything earlier hated the very concepts on which 4e was founded heard of pathfinder and here i be with a shiny new book to look forward to and an mmo in the future i beleive i found my path :D ![]()
