The Spell Murderous Vines calls out a wall or another flat surface. I believe the ground to usually be a flat surface. My DM thinks otherwise. What would be the correct interpretation?

What happens if an unchained barbarian uses his rage together with the amplified rage feat.
What happens? does he just get a +4 to strength and constitution?
