Hey all, I'm working on some kind of Warpriest build. I have a general idea what I want to do, but not sure how to do it.

Here's what I know for sure:

  • The campaign will take place in the Worldwound, and we start at level 3. Demons and cultists will likely be common enemies.
  • My GM requires fairly strong optimization, but there is definitely some room for unique/interesting/character-driven choices.
  • Every source is allowed (subject to GM approval).
  • I definitely want to play a warpriest, with some combination of melee & spells to buff/debuff.

In a perfect world, I would like to build a Warpriest + VMC Witch with Boundaries patron. This would be great for debuffing demons, AND would be a super fun, conflicted character background to role-play. But I'm afraid this would spread my build too thin, and lead to MAD-ness (and I don't even know if Dimension is a viable patron). Is there any way this concept could work without being terribly under-powered? Anyway, I gave up on the Witch VMC and started trying out a Cleric VMC.

I'd like to frustrate enemies with debuffs and trips (or dirty fighting or some kind of maneuver), while having some good buffs for myself and allies (which seems automatically included for a warpriest), and decent combat skills to clean up after myself. Anything that helps survivability in the Worldwound is also helpful.

Here's what I have so far (open to suggestions):

  • Half-orc or Dwarf (prefer core races, but might consider others).
  • Either standard Warpriest or CotF + VMC cleric -- OR Sacred Fist + Monk dip/VMC. I also considered archaeologist or drunk monk, but I think Warpriest will fit the campaign best.
  • Assuming non-fist, I'd go for a dire flail or a scorpion whip (with whip mastery feat chain). Half-orcs have some cool racial traits that support these. Combat-wise, this would be a good trip build.
  • Deity Shelyn seems cool, with focus on Luck domain/blessing and Protection blessing. There are some cool traits and class features that also boost luck, which seems fun.

Here's what I'd like advice on:

  • VMC or multi class options?
  • prestige class options? character wise, I think an evangelist or similar would be super cool. Not sure how well that would synergize with the build concept though, so I could skip it.
  • Feats? I'm terrible at feats. No idea what to do here beyond the basic Combat Reflexes, Trip feat chain.... Any advice here would be most welcome. There must be some cool spell or maneuver-based ideas?

Existing material

Not much posted yet, and there seem to be widely conflicting opinions about the warpriest. I found N. Jolly's incomplete warpriest guide (which is not in the guide of guides here on Paizo boards). This is sadly the best warpriest guide, but it's missing the sample builds, and what is there is not fully thought out (e.g. "this would be cool", but no clear approach for how to get there).

Thanks for reading this novel, and thanks in advance for your time/help!

I tried to build a Cold Iron Scorpion Whip, but it was flagged as illegal in Hero Lab. Here is the original thread on the Hero Lab forums.

RAW is clear: "metal parts". If arrows can be cold iron, a scorpion whip should also. Seems obvious to me, but could we get an official clarification?

Of course I will ask my GM, and we'll house rule it one way or the other, but it's always nice when everybody agrees. :)

Thanks!

I am over 30, non-smoker in Los Angeles, looking to start or join a fun game. D&D is what I know, but I am open to playing other systems (Shadowrun, Vampire, whatever).

Bi-weekly or flexible schedule would be good. Daytimes are usually better than evenings, but somewhat flexible. Prefer the "West Side" (I am near USC).

Forgive me if this has been answered, but I searched the messageboards and didn't find anything definite on this.

I know that the campaign begins on the First Day of Autumn, in the year 4707 AR. But what is the first day of autumn? The 21st of Rova? Also, what day of the week is it?

For the detail oriented, can we get a definitive ruling on EXACTLY when the campaign starts?

a) the day of the year
b) the day of the week

Thanks!
