So, I have to say, I was super excited to see this particular Beta (Even if none of my players would look twice at a Samurai that came with a mount instead of super swords, but that's another story for another day.) The Gunslinger was added in to an existing campaign where the player's character had recently died do to...sharp teeth shall we say.
The player was really excited, as he is a big fan of western movies, and made himself a nice leather trench coat wearing, scowling, scared western hero, it was really cool.
Which fit in just fine with my party of a slightly insane Half-Drow Sorceress who wears as little as possible to show of her 'superiority'. A calm, but secretly cowardly human Ranger who specialized in bow combat. And our animal friendly female barbarian who has a basic grasp of languages, and finds the strangest brilliance in simplicity.
I should mention now that this character is replacing an Evil Rogue, who had lied, and stolen from the party on multiple occasions (although never getting caught, and the party liked him a great deal.) who happened to find himself breaking into the wrong place, and paying for it.
The Gunslinger's unique flavor mixed well, and gave the party a more respectable face to put on. So all in all, the tone was perfect.
Then the first battle started up and it fell apart piece by piece. At sixth level (Party level) the Gunslinger fell behind every character, not able to keep up with the ranger's Damage output, or make a big difference with his Grit abilities.
The single saving grace he had was the ability to use the Lighting Reload Deed. However, the abilities and damage output were far behind that of our parties Ranger (the lowest of the three others.) I found that the current list of Grit abilities at least at the lower and middle levels seemed a bit more utilitarian than combat worthy.
So the final verdict as is. Good theme, interesting abilities, seems to need a boost in the combat field.
ALSO: Player wished to ask if there would be a re-imagining, or Pathfinder-ization of the Ghostwalker class.
Thank you.
