Liberty's Edge

I'm working under the assumption that an arrow, a bit of cloth doused in lamp oil, and a flame equals a flaming arrow. I would also assume that like the spell flame arrow this arrow would deal an extra 1d6 damage. If these assumptions are wrong please let me know.

My questions are: how much time it would take to prepare such arrows? What would you roll including the DC to prepare them? How much oil and cloth per quiver would this use? Would it be considered a move action to light them? How would that change if you had an open flame ready like a campfire or a lit candle? What are the chances that the target will catch fire? If there are any issues I'm missing, please let me know.

3rd party content is generally not allowed in PFS. The trapper archetype and skirmisher archetype switch spellcasting for other abilities so it is possible to play a ranger that doesn't cast spells. Those archetypes are from APG and Ultimate Magic

Oh! I didn't know about the skirmisher archetype. If I use that and take a level or two of Rouge I can approximate the alternate class. Thanks!

I created a Human Ranger (haven't played him yet) and I just found the Spell Less Ranger alternate class put out by Kobold Press. Is this legal to play in PFS?

I made a Dwarf Inquisitor about a month ago, and have played three modules with him. Next time I play he will be level 2, but as far as I understand, you can make ANY changes to a character before he reaches level 2.

I've decided I don't really like the Inquisitor class, and I have a much better character concept for a Human Ranger. The concept would even necessitate changing factions. Basically I would be changing everything about the character. Can I still apply my prestige points and other stuff I gained over the three modules worth of play to the ranger character and treat the inquisitor as if he never existed? Or, is it too late for that?

Thanks!

Thanks for the help! I guess I must have missed the charts on 291 when looking through the book. I have a lot of redesigning for a bunch of creatures! Lots of work, but the fun kind!

Liberty's Edge

Hello there,

I'm a fledgling GM and I am starting a level 5-7 campaign pretty soon where the PC's are going to be dealing with a lot of undead. I was looking through some DND 3.5 books for monster ideas, and in the Fiend Folio I found the Crawling Head (pg 35 for those who care to look it up) which is perfect for my campaign. The problem is, its CR is 20, and while I can certainly save it for later in the campaign, I seriously doubt they're going to make it to 20 before we're through.

So, looking in the Pathfinder Bestiary, I found table 2-1: Monster Advancement in the Appendices (pg 295). Looking in the HP Change column, I see it says going from CR 20 to 19 is a change of 40, 19 to 18 is a change of 30, etc etc. By the time I make it down to CR 7 a monster with 182 HP now is WAY into negative HP. Obviously I am reading the chart incorrectly; even with the other columns, his stats become way too low. Can someone tell me how I SHOULD be reading the chart?

Secondary question-- when dealing with monster death, having never GMed before, I always assumed that monsters were considered dead once their HP reached zero. With PC's the Core Rulebook says you're unconscious at zero and not dead until your HP is at a negative value equal to your CON score. Was I right in my assumption, or is death for monsters the same as PC's?

Thanks for your help!
