Hello,
During the course of a recent adventure, our characters came across some of the remains of an NPC's father. The character had been petrified, then mostly broken apart and the remains scattered across the city we are adventuring in. We managed to recover the largest piece (the torso, head, and one arm), but it would be nearly impossible to physically recover the rest (at least a portion of the petrified remains were ground down into bits small enough that they have become part of the cobblestones in the city).
A discussion then arose regarding whether or not the character could be brought back to life. While a Break Enchantment or Stone to Flesh, then a Resurrection spell could work to bring the character back to life, is there any way short of a Miracle or Wish to reconstruct the petrified remains so that a Break Enchantment or Stone to Flesh could then be use to restore the character? Both Make Whole and Make Whole, Greater refer to Mending, in which you have to have all of the pieces and even Memory of Function states that any pieces missing remain missing. At the moment, the PCs have access to around 4th level spells (and could possibly get access to up to 6th or 7th level, depending on the spell), but higher than that is pretty much out of the question. Is this simply a lost cause, or is there a realistic way to accomplish bringing the character back?
