The player who was trying this will love these possibilities. The Bloody Bludgeon power is fantastic. He is not a barbarian at the moment but this may sway him over. Thanks Jello!

Hi there all,

I was curious what are people's thoughts on the general usefulness of the messageboards? I am only an occasional player (about 6 times a year)which leads me to the messageboards after each session to try and learn the game better. There are some things I really like about them and some things I think could be better. I would be interested in what other peoples thoughts are as well as if there are any 'tips' on how they use them. These are mostly about rules questions btw.

Here is what I like-
-The response is FAST-A lot of people are on the boards and I always get responses right away which is awesome. It means there are people out there who enjoy answering questions and teaching which is a big help.
-The links to rules and FAQs are really helpful. Sometimes people have seen the same question and can just point you to the right place.
-The ability to submit a question to FAQ is great. There is a way to get a questions answered by the developers if enough people ask.
-The boards are fun. I like that people tend to interact and have a good time as well as answer questions, etc.

Here is things I WOULD like-
-A way to recognize good answers versus ones that seem way off. Maybe somethings like Amazon's "was this review helpful?" tag. Sometimes I see about 5 different opinions on an answer and it's hard to follow what the general consensus is. A tag like this could make it easy for people to vote in when they agree with someone's interpretation/explanation of rules.
-A clearer designation of people's experience and involvement at Pathfinder. I would love to see if people are an 'authority' on the game or just learning like myself. I do see that you can look at a persons profile and see info but maybe something clearer. For an example check out Fantasy Flight Games boards. They are great in this way.
-Getting rid of old or useless threads. It takes forever to sift through old threads and I usually end up just posting a new thread on a question. When I do look through old threads there is no way to tell if the question was actually answered or if the thread went in a different direction. Maybe a way to 'Archive' certain post and mark others as useful.

So, what else do people think?

Thanks! My player who is the fighter will be glad to hear that!

This is all really great. Thanks! It looks like when attempting to grapple if the Attack of Oppurtunity is successful it does damage AND becomes a penalty to the CMB. Is that right?

"If you are hit by the target, you take the damage normally and apply that amount as a penalty to the attack roll to perform the maneuver"

Hi all,

When using Cleave do you add your ONLY your Base Attack Bonus to your roll or do you use the weapons Attack Bonus (BAB + Strength Modifier + Size Modifier). The rules state "AT your full base attack bonus" which makes me think it just your BAB. How about for the second attack? There is states "USING your full base attack bonus".

For any examples, say it's a fighter with a +1 BAB as that is the character who I am trying to figure out.

Thanks! I looked this up in the FAQ and saw some answers from past messages but some of them seem way off (I wish there was a way to flag when people when people are right on wrong in their advice!)

Thanks again!

Hi there! I have been doing my first GM'ing and my group is still learning a lot of the combat rules. One thing we have had happen a few times is 1-players wanting to push someone (over the deck of a ship for example) and 2-wanting to try and pick someone up and throw them at other combatants or just through the air. I imagine these actions may use grapple or other Combat Maneuvers but I was wondering if anyone could break down the actual steps and how many rounds, etc it would take, including what roles the other character may be able to make to avoid or stop the action from occurring. I let the player do it pretty easily as I wanted to keep the game moving but now it is happening more and more so I want to do it right.

Thanks a ton for any help

Thanks all for these comments/answers!

The GM is indeed new and we are learning the rules together. I appreciate Rushley pointing out that a lot of GM'ing is storytelling and a GM obviously has a lot more to think about than a single player. If anyone one in the group is the Rule Lawyer it's likely me so I definitely keep quiet during sessions. We are all friends, however, so pointing out a rule out of session is not out of the question as we learn.

We have read over the Surprise round information and I just don't think the GM uses it at this point in our learning curve. It makes it a bit annoying but it never ends up having a major effect. We'll try to review it at some point for sure.

PS- The burrowing information out there is pretty scarce. In this case it was during combat and the WiSC came up under my character knocking him over. The GM said I was surprised and therefore couldn't roll to avoid it or anything. I did some research and it looks like a DC 25 Acrobatics check or something may have been called for (can't remember where I saw that).

Thanks again! The more I read in the threads the more we learn. Enjoying it alot.

Hi all, pretty new to the game and boards. I have done some searching on this topic but wanted to see if anyone was willing to give some info.

Our last game the GM 'surprised' us a couple times by having creatures attack without any chance for us to roll or react. Once was a gorilla pushing a guy off a horse by dropping from above before an encounter started. The other was a Wolf-in-sheep's Clothing burrowing under a guy and coming up under him during an encounter and knocking him over/attacking.

It seems to me we should be able to roll or react to instances like this in some way, either by a Perception vs. Stealth or CMD check or sometging. My own character has Uncanny Dodge so in my mind that should almost always give some sort of reaction check.

We have all been learning the system so likely he is just seeing things differently or making rolls I am not seeing. In the end it's GM's rules to keep the game fun and moving but any rules for these situations that would give clear guidance? It seems to happen a few times per game session.

Thanks!
