guys, I thought about it and I think Pathfinder needs an Alignment book. Something that builds rules that make the game better based around alignment. Could call it "The World of Evil and Good" or something. Something that makes it matter more. I wrote in another thread that you could do something like Pendragon does with traits where if you are really strong in a trait it forces your character to act in a certain way. Maybe stuff like that. It just doesn't need to be such a simple stat. what other subjects can you think of?
hi pathfinders, I see the game speed come up quite a bit as an issue. I was just watching a Dark Heresy review and he was saying that game zoomed along quite well when the action started up. In your experience how does Pathfinder fit in, in terms of speed? I guess the fastest and the slowest games you've played would be the bounds of this scale. 1 being fast, 10 being sloooooooow. booger=boy
hi guys, I've watched The One Ring rpg design videos and one of the main guys behind the game seemed to poo-poo the idea that the player options had to be perfectly balanced. In particular he was talking about letting players be Noldor elves or Rangers be in the game as player options. He thought it was ok that they were tougher as long as everyone at the table understood that this was just the way it was. I liked that. I'm not someone who suffers from power lust, where my PC has to be the toughest guy on the planet to have fun. I could dig an above average fellow PC being around my character. I'd probably have fun with it. Do you guys think we pfinders obsess too much over race and class balance?
gamers and speculators, I was reading enworld today and they said a whole bunch of dnders were fired. I know Baker is gone. Not sure if I read it right but Monte Cooks name came up as well. What can all this mean? Is it just their usual layoffs or is dnd going down the tube? I'm thinking this because some of those names seem like big gamer names to me. maybe the end is near,
hi nakedfinders, I was taking a look at some Colossus of Roads doodles last night and noticed one where the guy had his weiner hanging out. This made me realize that I've never fought a naked giant/titan. I'm not sure if it would affect game play or not: "You see a 50 foot man walking towards you with a spear. His weiner is hanging out". I almost think my characters would run away from that. On the other hand it does make the big guy seem a little scarier... naked. opinions?
hi gamerfinders, I thought this might be an interesting question to toss out there. I keep on seeing indicators of Pthfinders success, anywhere from #1 spots on Amazons seller list to the CEO saying that they have a bigger market share than dnd. Usually I see players reporting on how the game is selling in the bricks and mortar stores. But maybe a more important gauge is to ask if it is becoming easier find Pthfinder players to have some fun with? Have people found dnders who resisted for a long time finally coming around to test it out? Are they finding people who've never played a RPG before wanting some Pathfnder? I'd think that with an expanded market share that people would find the social aspects of the game changing for them. what have you guys experienced?
Hi pthfinders, Pathfinder is still the #1 gamey sold on Amazon. I'd like to take a moment to congratulate everyone, game company and community, for this achievement. I think it bodes well for Pathfinders future that the core book is the highest seller. And the core book is like 3-4 years old already! booger=boy
hi excaliburfinders, I've started thinking about King Arthur and Pathfinder and am wondering how well that story and the game mesh together. I've found a supplement called "Legends of Excalibur" from 2004, but it's a dnd 3.0 book! Eeeks! It sounds cool but I haven't used anything from that far back, its like 3 years old! Anyone out there started using the Arthur world for the Pathfinder campaign? I don't know what to do,
hi spellfinders, I've been pondering this question for awhile, just how easy is it for us to swap out our existing vancian magic system for something else. I'm not saying it's bad, but am just pondering the thought of whether or not its swappable with something different. The question I think hinges on how deeply the system is woven into everything else. How many classes and monsters would we have to alter or eliminate if a group put a different system in place? That sound's like a lot of work! Which modules would need to be rewritten? Egads! Anyway, it seems too labor intensive to me to easily be done. Maybe the combat system would be doable, but I'm doubtful about dat one too. They just aren't races or weapons that are easy to remove and fill with somtin else. opinions?
hi orcfinders, Orcs from what I can tell have gone through at least 3 different nose styles in its existence. 1rst edition: Pig noses
I have no idea why they were pig men in 1rst. Were there cool pig monsters that dnd was copying at the time? Incidentally do we need a good pig headed humanoid? I've always liked the pig head. 3rd, I'm clueless as well. Pathfinder, tada... I'm guessing that they wanted the Orcs to look more like Urak-Hai from Lord of The Rings. Its the only thing that makes sense to me. Kidos fresh from LOTR would love to fight bad guys from a nifty movie. Any other ideas?
dndfinders, For awhile I thought it was neat that 4.0 of the "Other Game" had made Titans into a bigger version of the giant. Than it struck me that that the titan was a unique monster and we'd lost it by making it a bigger giant. Yet the question that gnawed: maybe the titan wasn't very good and needed deletion. Full deletion, something that would free up the name for other purposes. Maybe Paizo should axe the b&*(#@$ ? I don't think so. Its not like the guy never was used. How would we make a Clash of the Titans movie if we got rid of the titan? I'm sure the game would be better balanced if we got rid of him, but dangit its the titan! What do you girls and guys think? Has the titan been ruining your Pathfinder? Is it time for him to go away? booger=boy
dndfinders, I've puzzled over the size of the books for some time. I know that the main book has 2 books in 1. That makes it big. Yet, how much of this size is because of simple formating? Ancient DnD(1rst) was able to pack the print into a smaller amount of pages. I took a gander at some of the books and the font size seems the same. The illustrations of the monsters are larger in many cases. But maybe the key issue is the margin sizes. The 1rst edition seems like it has smaller margins. I'm trying to eyeball a Pathfinder page and it may lose 1/4-1/5 of available space for the illustrated margins. Whats that mean? A wild guess is that for a 400 page book we could shrink it down alot. Maybe 300 pages... I'm skeptical of that... I like margins, but I like smaller books too. :(
dndfinders, there are prestige classes that I wont take ever again but there are pieces of them that I wish I had access to. Take the Arcane Archer for example. I've never was impressed by the class but there are abilities that I wish I could get to. Maybe as spells for an elf wizard/ranger combo. It'd be nifty to have a Phase Arrow spell handy when I need it without having to take 10 levels of AA. how about you?
hi dndfinders, I'd like to look at Mr. Rakshasa and get yer thoughts on the critter. I was gandering at the 1rst dnd edition of Monster Manual and kinda gawked at its defenses: immunity to any spell under 8th level
modern defense:
It seems like it had much better magic defenses and maybe a little better defense against weapons. any thoughts?
pathfindnders, I've gone through 126 prestige class threads(ok maybe not that many) and have been thinking that maybe the answer to the endless need for more Prestige classes is to allow the players to forge their own in the game. The Prestige classes had to come from somewhere, someone or something must have brought them into existence. Why not let the player make up their own? At the top of my head I'd think we'd need some general guidelines to let the player design the Prestige class of his dreams. I have to admit that it's less work to just use a preexisting class but its also more game designer time and money. Then again, all this demand for them tells me that the classes that they want haven't been invented yet. would this be too hard to do?
hey pathfindnders, Last I knew the green slime had been moved into the traps. It used to be classified as a monster. But if you look at those stats, all it ever did was sit there and eat things. So why not make it a trap? Anyway, this seemed ok for a long time. But was it the right thing to do? It still is the green slime is it not? I'm starting to think that it wasn't the right thing to do. And the reason is simply psychological. A Green Slime as a monster opens the door for people to imagine new monsters based off of it. A green slime as a trap, where does that lead us? To more traps? I'm looking at the lovely green slime from 1rst edition. The ending of the description talks about giant colonies of green slimes or sometin like that. But that's what I'm getting at. A monster can be a jumping off point for variants that can be good to bring into the game. Maybe someone would dream up a Swamp Thing/Green Slime monster if it was a monster again. I think this leads into a bigger question if monsters should ever be turned into traps. Leave them alone and let the option be open to creating new critters. booger=boy
hi pathfindnders, I ran across this interesting class in Unearthed Acrcana(1rst) edition and it kind of surprised me when I looked at the details. The Thief Acrobat
Ive heard for years that the Prestige class was introduced in the 3+ editions and never really gave it much thought. Maybe that's wrong? Prestige classes may have been with us for 26+ years if so. any thoughts?
pathfindnders, in the mists of time, maybe further back than Paizoids even know about there were big weapons that did alot of damage. Take the two handed sword for instance. A great big sword, which I believe is the Greatsword today, that did 3-18 points of damage per hit. What does it do today? About 50% less. How can you kill a dragon with such a thing? Today I peer back and wonder, what happened? If I'm dreaming up a fighter these days it doesn't seem to include the good ol two-hander anymore. Its become an expensive weapon to avoid. Why did we have to give up its might?
pathfindnders, The Lich. Simply put one of the greatest of the monsters. A spell guy who isn't very nice. Ultimate Magic, a book of magic goodies including spells. When the Lich and the UM manual intersect do we have the chance for a better and meaner Lich? I'm all for making him tougher. yer thoughts?
guys, I just wanted to point this out. Ultimate Magic came out a couple of days ago and lo and behold what is on the front page of paizo.com? Why a Wizards of The Coast product! Is this not blasphemy? Anyway, it seems strange that I have to do this, I wanted to point out that shouldn't the front page item be Ultimate Magic and not "Heroes of The Shadow Farts"? Maybe Paizo is a WOTC subsidiary or sumtin, but blast it that thing is offensive! booger=boy
booger=boy took on an army and used the Dig spell. It seemed dorky that he had it. What the h&8!@ am I going to do with a spell that moves earth? Dig! It left the Dnd spell canon at some point, not sure where, and has been missed ever since. My guess is some game designer in 2nd edition cut it because he never ever used it and understood the fun that Dig could inflict. Maybe the Pathfindnders who seem the wisest dnders I've seen in awhile will let it come home? booger=boy
hey pathfindnders, I keep on hearing the term "Archetype" tossed around and I'm trying to get a good understanding of what the heck they are. Is it "Archetype" or "Archtype"? This is what I think I've gathered so far:
I'm not sure if I got that right,
hey pathfindnders, Let us consider the 1rst edition dnd book Fiend Folio. From my understanding of it, the book was a compilation of content drawn from the dnd community(I hope I'm right about this). I always found the tome cool and I didn't even understand it was a community book until the last couple of years. Maybe that's what made it so special. Can't we do the same today? Are we at the point where we only recognize cool tings that come from a grand game designer? booger=boy
pathfindnders, let use be honest with ourselves, are we classifying the prestige classes as prestige to add to our own sense of grandeur? I've been through the 3.ish muck and I never got the sense that they deserved that special classification. They are still classes to me, just plain ol classes. In the ol days of 1rst edition dnd truth you had to meet requirements to play the classes. If you didn't, well play something else. We never called them prestige. Is it time to do away with this annoying concept and let them be called what they really are, plain ol classes? booger=boy
hey anyone know if the critter here:
is a Pathfinder version of:
I keep on looking at it and thinking it sure looks like it. Coincidence or intentional design? The Jabberwocky should rule the world!
Hi guys, I'm an old dnder who is hoping to pick up this game soon. As an old dnder I've watched critters get watered down over the years. Maybe a simple example: I don't see boobs in dnd anymore(are there boobs in PF?). As it is, I've heard good things about PF but am curious about some of the fascinating ones from the past: demons and devils. How are these critters? I'm pretty turned off of 4.0 Dnd Orcus. He used to be a fat disgusting demon lord, which seems right! Today he looks like a red painted incredible hulk with some big horns attached. Does PF go the route of hyper-physigues or does it let the fat evil guys have their guts? booger=boy |
