Despite all that, I feel guilty only being a player. It feels like I'm only taking and never giving, so I am planning to run my first PbP game soon-ish. Wish me luck!

Good luck!

I like this idea. As a long-time 1e GM just starting to pick up 2e, it would be nice to see adventures designed and tagged for those learning to GM the system.

Currently, I have to look through available 1-4 adventures and rely on the reviews to see if a given adventure takes a more experienced GM or not. Having some scenarios designed around introducing GMs would alleviate that.

Have I got a deal for you!

Soon we will be starting up a PBP GM School where those topics and more will be covered, as well as giving every "student" a chance to run a short bounty or quest for the others, with guidance and mentorship. It is geared towards PBP, but the majority of topics will apply to GMs of all game formats.

As a player who is relatively new to RPGs (only since the summer of Covid) and is even newer to Pathfinder, I am interested in GMing and have already mentioned it to the local Ventureperson (I don’t know her rank offhand).

My biggest concern is exactly the concern I had when I first GMed for my kids, and later my friends. As a brand new GM, I felt that the adventure was vague in ways that forced some degree of adlibbing and/or improvisation. Not knowing the world or all the rules, that’s intimidating. I’m also an engineer, whereas my friend who is our regular GM was an English major and he has done this for years.

I would *love* to see some adventures written with a lot of handholding for new GMs. Even giving guidance and/or examples of how to deal with players not following the script the GM is reading would be an immense help. I don’t know how practical it would be, but it would definitely make it easier to onboard potential GMs who share my fears/concerns.

And if you're a player who's GM-curious, what would get you to the other side of the screen? How can we support you as you take the first steps into running games?

Help with the 'technical' side of things. I've run many in-person tables during the LG and LA era but not Pathfinder. However the Google Slides, maps, etc. are the real stumbling block for me since I've never used them except as a player.

Well, we as a community can definitely help with that. I have a "PBP GM Handbook over on the Roll for Combat discord server that is about 80% generalizable that I am planning on making available to all PBP lodges in a general format soon. I can provide that, as well as answer any questions you may have.

Our winners are:

  • Paizo forums - GM supervillain
  • Cayden’s Keg - Paul (silencer8121)
  • Find the Path - Gwatt? (gwatt330)
  • Roll for Combat - Modus Op (modusop)

Please join me in congratulating these lucky winners, and in thanking all of our terrific GMs who helped make this event possible!

Okay, I've done play by discord, but not play by post on here....so, can someone point me to relevant info? How to set avatar, style guide (if different from the PbP discords), how to find my game (GM Super Zero's PF2 1-04)?

    Thanks in advance!

    I'll start in reverse...

You can find your IC and OOC channels on the Gameday XII Event Listing spreadsheet.

The paizo forums uses BBCODE formatting, as seen in the "How to format your text" spoiler below the text input box.

PRO TIP: The paizo site likes to eat posts and then pretend nothing ever happened. ALWAYS copy your post to the clipboard (or similar) before hitting the Submit Post or Preview button.

PROTIP #2: You can use the Preview button to make sure your formatting is correct, but also to see your rolls ahead of time, so you can craft your post to match the roll. Fail a Stealth roll? Maybe your character sneezed.

As for setting your avatar, go to your Organized Play page and click the Edit button to the right of the PC you want to set. Set the character image to one of paizo's curated list of avatars.

    Hello!

GM for "Quest #8: Shadows of the Black Sovereign" which is listed on the spreadsheet as a "1st-4th" quest is actually a "3rd-6th" quest.

Can someone please fix cell "32-F" to properly reflect this?

    Cheers.

The above issue was never addressed.

And, as I have only two players signed up as of writing this, may I instead pivot to offer them a Repeatable Quest in the same Level Range?

    Too late?

    Cheers.

I apologize for missing this earlier. I have updated the level range for you. I also notice that there are now 3 players signed up. Hopefully you can get another in the next week or so, maybe with some advertising?

If you truly want to shift to a different scenario, I would highly recommend clearing that with your players first.

If yes, does it have be in a different tier?

I already signed up for CORE 3-4, but I could send another character to either the standard 1-2 or 3-4 table to help make a legal table size...

Yes, Kaervek78, that is certainly allowed, since they are technically different systems and you would be playing on different PCs. Enjoy!

    Hello,

Excuse me, I dont notice until now a proble with my two tables (both Pf1e Core, both 0-24).

I named both tables in rpgchronicles as "CORE 1-2" and "CORE 6-7". I put in the initial excel that both are core... but rpg chronicles only allow to choose "PF1e", not "PF1e core".

Now all characters are not core because thesse tables are reported as pf1e normal.

May some one help me to solve this issue, putting these tables as "core" (and recovering core condition to the characters)?

    Regards

    Ethelnir
    VC León (Spain)

Ethelnir, that is definitely a limitation of RPGChronicles. I will have Phox look into it on that end for the future.

In the meantime, since Outpost was over months ago, the only solution I have for you is to email pfsreportingerrors@paizo.com and explain the issue. Your players may have to do this independently as well.

I am truly sorry that this has been an issue for you and your players, and hopefully we can get this issue resolved quickly.

More games will be added every few games as GMs register their tables. Remember that no signups will be allowed before the August 7 date (and anyone that manages to add themselves as a player before will will be deleted).

Ruins of Bonekeep, Level Two no minimum
    # 6-00: Legacy of the Stonelords - 5 tables
    # 8-00: The Cosmic Captive - 6 tables
    # 9-00: Assault on Absalom - 5 tables

Great! Find another 3-5 GMs so we can meet table minimums and we can make that happen.

Alternatively, if we can't make it happen this time around, let's see if we can't find the necessary number of GMs and players in time for Outpost in the Spring of '24.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (for GMs)

How do I sign up to GM?
Go to our GM Registration form. Fill out the form and choose which scenario you would like to GM. Please fill out the form for each separate scenario you wish to run.

How many games can I sign up to GM?
You may only GM one table of one special. You may sign up to GM as many other games as you choose, though we ask that you consider what you can reasonably handle while still providing a great experience for your players and completing all games within the given timeframe. Remember, life happens to the best of us, so please do not commit to maximum capacity.

If this will be your first time GMing PbP or you are still learning the ropes, we strongly recommend that you only do one game at a time. It’s more work than it looks.

What if I want to sign up to GM a Special?
If you wish to GM one of the Specials above please fill out this form. Deadline for submission is July 17, 2023.

    Specials GM Registration Form

In addition, we require that all those who GM a special have some prior experience with GMing Play-by-Post! GMing PBP is fun, but specials are a time-pressured environment inappropriate for learning the techniques of a new format! Instead, GM something else with us, and then apply for the next set of specials we offer.

What do you mean by scenario support?
Paizo will gift you the scenario that you wish to run — if you sign up by our deadline. Not included: APs, Adventures in hardback books (eg:Dark Archives, King Maker Companions), Emerald Spire, or Thornkeep.

If you need scenario support, you must register your game by August 7, 2023.

What if I want to add a game as a GM after the August 7, 2023 Scenario Support Deadline?
That’s fine, you just need to provide your own copy of the adventure.

May I add a game after September 4, 2023, the official start of PBP Gameday XII?
Yes, you may add a game after the official start of Gameday.Though you must still register your game through the GM Registration for tracking purposes as well as finish the game by the end of Gameday. The Gameday team reserves the right to rule that it is too late to begin a game for convention credit.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (for Players)

How do I sign up to play?
Once we begin to get some submitted games we will create the spreadsheet with all of the games for General Player sign-up on August 10, 2023.This spreadsheet will be posted shortly.

What are the different PBP Lodges?

    PbP Lodges

Will there be boons for Players and GMs?
We expect to be able to offer boons for PFS1 and PACS, plus increased AcP for PFS2 and SFS.

Can I participate if I am new to Play-by-Post?
Certainly! Just let your GMs and Players know. They’ll be glad to help. We also have plenty of resources available to help you prepare, reach out within the appropriate lodge so we know what you need.

When will you open the seats for signup?
We will open up early signup for GMs on August 7, 2023. This is a courtesy for our GMs. GMS, please limit yourself to 1 table of your choice and 1 Special until August 10.

General player signup will open August 10, 2023. Please only sign up for the number of games you can handle. It’s better to enjoy one or two games than to get overwhelmed. Also, please remember other people are excited to play. Even if you are a player who can handle multiple tables, please be considerate and sign up for only a few to begin and allow others time to sign up before you add more.

Wah! Why do you have so few tables of the Special? I won’t get a seat!
Don’t panic! We will be starting with only so many tables each Special. We’re doing this so that we can better respond to demand, and so that we don’t overschedule tables.

  • If the table of the tier you want is full, please add yourself to the waitlist of the special you want. Being on the waitlist is the best way to get a seat in the special. List the character you prefer to play — if we can’t fill a table at your tier, we’ll give you the option of coming in with another character.
  • We’ll fill new tables from the player waitlist.

During my tenure as Venture Captain, I spent a lot of time defining what counted as one of our Online Lodges and what did not, because the internet is a vast and amorphous thing, and serving as the Venture Officer for the entire internet would have made my head explode. Having our territory be specific online lodges where there was a strong and visible venture officer presence that could answer questions and head off problems made so much more sense. Hey folks, just popping in to let you know that your old GM had to step away for personal reasons. I apologize that he was unable to let you know himself in a timely manner.

To get this campaign marked inactive, someone will need to email Customer Support to take over the Campaign to close it. In the meantime, you can hide it by hiding all the threads for this campaign.

    Again, apologies that this happened.

While I appreciate that everyone has their opinions on the subject, the fact of the matter is that conversations like this are not productive in any way. Once a conversation devolves to the point of insults (well versed or not), all utility has been wrung from them.

The fact is that the OP made an observation that they may not feel comfortable with something. Suggestions were made that might help, and then the conversation devolved. This is not the place for that. I am not here to point fingers or ban people from the server (yet). I am simply saying, as a Venture-Lieutenant, that this conversation is now over. If you'd like to continue it, I am sure you can find a venue better suited.

@GM Curcible - I apologize for not pulling out earlier. Adras got accepted into another game, and my roster is quite full. Please offer the spot to a replacement player.

I'd like to throw myself in front of this one. I've been wanting to play an Emerald Spire since I got my hands on it. I was debating GMing a 4th game on here, but as a player? Sign me up!

To keep in the ACG themes, I would like to play either a Hunter or a Warpriest. Since Algar has already "claimed" the warpriest position, I'll build up a hunter first, with a warpriest as backup.

While I would like to jump right in to Emerald Spire, if you want to have a starter game to bring everyone up to snuff, I would be fine with just about anything.

Given that you said to check back in a day or so, here I am. I'll get my dwarf disabling fighter character (Kargath) put together over lunch today.

The more I read, the more it sounds like a great idea for a game. I'd like to throw my hat in the ring with a Dwarven Brawler. He'd focus heavily oncombat meneuvers (especially dirty tricks), and be more of a take-down/take-out focus than pure damage. As time goes by, he'll be able to dish out the damage, but initially he'll be more focused on putting foes on the ground or disabling them for flanking/condition debuffs. For that reason he would work great in conjunction with a rogue or other precision damage character.

As for me, I post regularly through the day (EST), and usually check the boards before I turn in for the night.

I'll put together a cleric based on the above stats during lunch today. I assume lvl 2 starting wealth? If no ARG, then I'll likely go standard dwarf cleric.

I'd like to throw my hat in the ring with a straight cleric. Been a long time since I played just a cleric. Is the Advanced Race Guide in effect (now that almost everything is in the PFDSRD?).

    Spoiler:

    5d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 2, 4, 6) = 21
    5d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 3, 3, 4) = 18
    5d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 3, 6, 5) = 21
    5d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 4, 5, 5) = 18
    4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 6, 5) = 21
    4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 4, 1) = 15

There has been an uptick in PFS pbp on these boards in the last month or so. I know of a few that are going on now. I may even consent to run one soon, depending on my schedule.

Look for the First Steps one being run by Brayden Green for lvl 1-2 characters. I know he was looking for more players not too long ago.

I'd like to post interest as an oracle of battle, who can serve as bothmain-line fighter and off healer. I have the character ready to go, she just hasn't been put into a alias yet.

As a player,I post regularly throughout the day, as my work is fairly flexible about mini-breaks throughout the day, plus I usually check the boards at least once after hours. I am currently in 2 other games, one of which is moving pretty slow, and DMing another that moves in fits and spurts.
