I forgot to check when I was home. iirc it sounded like something they plan to do one quarter each year. The deadline was the same as WoTF unless I am confusing one for the other. I will double check when I get back to my drive.

No worries. It's more a curiosity now anyway, whether the guidelines changed/evolved at all from the time they posted them to the time they pulled them.

I _think_ this is the final version of my submission.

Non-rapier of Wooing

At rest, this item looks like a fine steel rapier. When gripped by the hilt, however, the blade glows almost imperceptibly, providing a flattering sidelight to its wielder (+2 enhancement bonus to Charisma, -20 penalty on Hide checks). When swung, the blade leaves a faint, pleasant scent of jasmine in its wake.

Three times per day, its wielder may perform the Deflect Arrows, Precise Shot, or Persuasive feats, even without their respective prerequisites. Performance of these feats requires an audience of at least one seeing creature with an Intelligence of 3 or higher. The audience must be within 30 feet of the wielder, and must be aware of the wielder's presence.

The "blade" is actually a dull, pliant material, incapable of drawing blood. Struck opponents take no damage, and must make a Sense Motive check or feel compelled to giggle at the ticklish sensation. After the item's three feats are used up, the wielded blade falls limp from ricasso to point--behaving more like leather rope than steel--until it's either released or ready to help its wielder impress a new audience tomorrow.

Moderate transmutation; CL 3rd; Craft Wondrous Item, 3rd-level bard; Price 1,800 gp.

iirc submissions due by the 31st of this month (and mine might even have been proofed by then :)

Curaigh, when did you save the page? I too saved a copy of the guidelines (on Nov 27) and I've got no deadline here. Seemed like a general, open call to me.

Alex.

No response to queries. And they've taken down the fiction guidelines, and any reference to them on the news page. Doesn't look like they've incorporated them into the general submission guidelines, either. Retooling/response to criticism, or general change of mind about considering fiction subs? Time will tell.

Alex.

Congrats, all!

Congrats, all!

If it takes 6 out of 7 nights just to read the submissions, then those listed first will have a distinct advantage.

In addition to the wordcount cap, a randomizer script (so all entrants would have opportunities to show up at or near the top of the list) might help scatter the voter-fatigue.

The list in Clark's first post answers about all of my concerns, though--in the unlikely event that I'm among the 32-- I'd much prefer a midnight deadline Monday night than a noon one this time around. I admit this is a self-serving request: I rarely go offline for more than 18 hours, but I'll have limited (or possibly no) internet access from the 29th to early afternoon on the 3rd. So it's either that or a rush job for me.

Looking forward to the next round, as spectator or participant.

Alex.
