I am looking at the freebooter archetype for the ranger, and I am wondering if the freebooter's bane ability counts as the ranger's favored enemy ability for the purpose of quarry, improved quarry, and master hunter.

According to the FAQ, an archetype's ability may count as the ability it replaced, depending on the wording of the archetype's ability. In the examples provided, it referred to the fighter's weapon training ability, and archetypes that require the player to select certain classes of weapons for their character.

Freebooter's bane does not force the player to choose specific classes of creatures for the favored enemy ability. It change favored enemy from a personal attack bonus to a party attack bonus. It also changes from a bonus against types of enemies to a bonus against a specific target. The only thing it has in common with favored enemy is that it scales with level (at half the rate). Based on these differences, would freebooter's bane be considered a separate ability? If that's the case, would quarry, improved quarry, and master hunter be useless for a freebooter?

Thanks in advance!
