About Zorusk White Star

"My life ... for this?" he gasped, looking down at the bloody sword at his side. How many had he killed?

Above him the faces of armored soldiers peered down in contempt and disgust. Blood trickled out of his mouth. His legs were going numb. Around him he could hear the groans of his dying platoon. A broken lance pierced his chest, pinning him to the ground. A silver pennant still flapped from the lance's splintered shaft.

"It ends now, orc. Black Tusk is dead. The war is over. Prepare to meet Gruumsh - in Hell." The man had the insignia of an officer. The symbol of Iomedae blazed on his tunic.

The horror. The horror ... He had become a monster - even by orc standards. He had killed many on the battlefield that day. The solder was right, his soul was surely bound for everlasting damnation in the pits of Hell. I never wanted this. He had been a farmer once. Now he had become an animal. Why had that fool Black Tusk insisted on war?

Zorusk raised his bloody, faltering hand to point at the officer. "We are not all beasts, captain. You and I, we are not all that different. We both left our wife and children to kill ..."

The man shook his head, "I fought for my god. You fought for a tyrant." It was true, Zorusk had no god.

The man slowly drew his sword and draped the pommel with a rosary of Iomedae,"Ask for forgiveness for your sins and the Inheritor will grant mercy on your soul".

Zorusk closed his eyes. Perhaps the man was right. Perhaps he could be reborn on another plane. Perhaps he could wake up as another person.

Zorusk opend his eyes. The stars were rising. In the north a bright star shown. The dog star ... it is an omen.

"I confess ... my sins. I renounce my life. I pledge my faith ... to Iomedae."

The man appeared momentarily startled, but quickly regained his composure. "For your soul, I hope you mean it. Take us to your strong hold. Help us find our men and we'll spare your life."

Zorusk nodded and looked up into the sky. Above, the north star shined bright. With his dying breath, Zorusk whispered, "Captain ... I give my life to Iomedae."

The world faded to black.

Background:

On the fateful day of his redemption, Zorusk would be granted mercy and healed by the Paladins of Iomedae. True to his word, Zorusk would help the paladins find their men. Zorusk would even end up fighting heroically at their side. In the end, the paladins were impressed by Zorusk. Furthermore, they saw in Zorusk a potential weapon that could pass unquestioned through the lands of evil.

Zorusk would become a soldier of Iomedae. After professing his faith in Iomedae and spending years in repentance for his sins, he would eventually be accepted into the church. After faithfully working many years as a Church laborer and farmer, he would be recommended by his minister for Ustalav's military training program.

After completing basic infantry school with distinction, Zorusk would go on to training in Ustalav's military academy at Caliphas. After graduating, he was selected for further instruction under the renown Profesor Lorrimir. As part of his advanced training, Zorusk spent extensive time in the field, training to fight undead. In addition to mastering all types of combat, Zorusk was conditioned to spend extensive time operating in a small group behind enemy lines.

Zorusk now serves the Church of Iomedae in Ustalav as a missionary and special forces operative. He specializes in working deep behind enemy lines to undermine the forces of evil from within their own lands. Zorusk spends most of his time in the Hold of Belken, proselytizing his fellow orcs and slaying the unrepentant. He often works outside of Ustalav's borders, gathering intelligence and disrupting threats to the Church of Iomedae.

Zorusk has returned to Ravengro for Professor Zorramir's funeral out of both loyalty and respect. He owes much of his success in combating undead in both Ustalav and Belken to the Professor's guidance. Zorusk is a bit uneasy walking openly through a human community, but he is willing to do so to pay tribute to his former mentor. As he travels to Ravengro, Zorusk is depressed and angry that he never had the chance to say good-bye to the Professor. Zorusk has sworn to Iomedae that he will discover the truth of what happened to Professor Zorrimor and will avenge his friend's death.
