Background
--------------------
Zev comes from Ryloth, the twi'lek homeworld, where she was the youngest of a large, impoverished family. Even as a child she often engaged in difficult work and had to hustle to help her family make ends meet.
Though Ryloth is an Outer Rim world, twi'lek are found throughout the Galaxy, and as a result the Jedi have an occasional presence there, which led to her discovery and adoption by the Order. Her parents, who could barely feed the family, were secretly happy to have one less mouth to feed, though they did feel a genuine sense of sadness at the thought of never seeing their daughter again.
For several years she trained as a young padawan, learning the basics of the Jedi code and their role in the Galaxy. Often she struggled between her curiosity, her strong emotions, and her insistence that the Jedi, as self-proclaimed agents of peace and justice, rarely seemed to actually do anything to create peace or justice.
During the Clone Wars, she was dispatched with her mentor, a Jedi Knight, to assist in the various hot spots around the Republic. This was a turbulent time for her, as she traveled and saw more in this period than she did in the rest of her life. She dutifully attempted to do as asked by her mentor and the Order while learning from these experience, though these were traumatic times; being a student of peace thrust into war was a difficult adjustment.
Late in the war, she and her mentor were dispatched to assist in a thorny battle against the Separatists in the Outer Rim, working to destroy an orbital base station that was defending a Separatist armory so that troops could stage a landing there. During the assault, Order 66 executed while she and her mentor were on the orbital station. Their clone troops turned against them, and her mentor shoved her into an escape pod, sending her into a hibernation trance. As she fell to the floor, he launched the pod, but the clone troopers overwhelmed him as he fought. He kept them occupied long enough that they didn't make contact with their superiors immediately, though, and as is the tradition of the various space militaries of the Galaxy, the starships in the battle didn't fire on what their scanners recorded as an empty escape pod. Later in the battle, the orbital station was destroyed.
Her pod touched down on the jungle moon below, and she revived from her Force-induced trance some time later, emerging to discover that she was lost on a wild hinterland with only a few remote settlements and Separatist bases. Keeping low, she reverted to scavenging to survive, learning better how to live off the land and avoid notice.
By the time the war was over, the armory on the planet had been bombed into oblivion, and a remote Outer Rim jungle moon drew little attention from the nascent Empire, affording her a chance to reinvent herself and make her way offworld, albeit almost completely broke and desperately in need of a new way to survive.
Now Zev hires out as a scout and lives as a vagabond, and in the Empire's records of the Jedi padawans she is presumed dead with the destruction of the orbital station where her mentor died.
Appearance: Zev is lean and azure-skinned, with smooth lekku and dark blue eyes. She is a young twi'lek, shaped by the harsh environment of Ryloth and later by Jedi padawan training and, most recently, by the hard circumstances of her life.
Personality: Zev is usually upbeat, though she tends to talk a lot and say little. She doesn't talk about her past at all, and about her future only in vague terms. She tends to put on a cheery face even in the midst of hardship. She is a tough survivor and rarely complains.
Zev has strong but murky objections to the Jedi way, as much as she learned it. She feels that the Jedi became complacent and hypocritical, but she isn't sure what to do about it, as now all noetic power is held by the Empire.
Zev likes kids, and she gets along reasonably well with most domesticated animals. She tends to avoid confrontation where possible and encourages other people to do likewise.
