Backstory:
Zeigris Wilsu, known as "Ziggy" by his friends had a mild if patriotic upbringing. In his youth he'd heard news and seen reports of the battles against the Vesk and eventually the war to repel the swarm. He had idolized the soldiers and it drove him through his teen years even as the fighting died down. When the chance came he applied for the Stewards and was accepted into their ranks.

However, despite a similar desire to defend the pact worlds his methods didn't mesh with the high-minded nature of elite corp. Ziggy was eccentric and a bit of a loose cannon due to this. His trainers had difficulty directing his focus, and there were several incidents of destroyed hardware and minor explosions at the training facilities where he had attempted to improvise. He was eventually drummed out on a honorable discharge for his enthusiasm. Ziggy had not been particularly pleased with these results and was convinced he could do something on his own.

After several further incidents on Absalom Station where he had attempted vigilante justice or to upgrade local systems a rap sheet was developing with the authorities. In frustration to all the hindrance he decided the system was the true problem and attempted to rob a branch of Abadarcorp to fund his escapades. He was successful in obtaining the credits, but was quickly caught trying to use them to make purchases at the same branch he had just robbed. After serving a short sentence for his actions he was given the unofficially recommendation to leave the station.

Dispirited, tired, and moderately angry, he found his way to Diaspora where his reasonable skills with technology and penchant for mixing it with magic to greater effect earned him a small reputation as an independent contractor for the Free Captains. The minimal rules, wild demeanor, and loose cannon style of accomplishing tasks of the pirates suited his way. If he could establish himself well enough he could just become a hero and defender of the Pact Worlds on his own, without those stupid Stewards. Nevermind the minor collateral damage and loss of life as he figured it all out. The next plan would certainly work fine... right?
