Thanks man. If you ever get back into the swing of things send me a pm. I'll check here periodically.

Hey again.

I got sick again and couldn't attend classes, my school then tried to say I had not attended enough to be worth sticking me in the next slot, but they still wanted to keep my money. There was a lot of back and worth but I won, such as it is.

I am still interested in this game but the pace will be slow ( not months slow but everyday is probably impossible). I've jerked you around so many times that I understand if you're sick of hearing from me.

Let me know one way or another.

All the best.

Zatsa examines the steel rod in the Elf's hand for a moment and nods solemnly. Taking the rod into her hand she bends the knee and holds the staff upwards, as though trying to point it at the sun.

''By the Dawnflower's light I do so swear. I will give my all to bring honor and justice to this city. I will be its shield and its eyes, guarding against the wicked and depraved.''

She whispers her thanks as quietly as she dare, hoping that his elf ears will pick up what Jack and Mr.Cobalt will not.

She rises back to her feet.

''I will return with men and women who will be willing to serve this great nation. Do I have a particular timetable under which to work?''

Sorry again, I was on the shortlist for a technical program and in the last few days I've been running around grabbing stuff I need and reading like mad to catch up with the things I missed. Give me another day or two tops and I should have everything back in control.

Happy Easter.

Nope sorry, I was busy for two days then we had no internet. Its up now. I've got a busy day again today but I should have a moment for a quick post mid afternoon or tonight.

That's not a bad point about the 2nd pro and using the newbie as a decoy. I take back my argument.

Female HP:31/31 l AC: 20 T: 15 FF: 16 l Fort: +6, Ref: +9, Will: +7 l CMB: +5/8, CMD: 19 l Dark vision 60ft, Perception +8, Sense Motive +12, Initiative Bardic Performance 13/13, Spells per Day: 4/4(Level 1), 2/2 (Level 2) Bolts:29

I dunno if even an evil/neutral nation is going to send a newbie to track a pro. Evil or not, sending a newbie to track down a pro is kind of stupid. Obviously evil people are less likely to care about a person's life, but if they are not inherently evil, I don't see them throwing away a potential tool when that tool is so unlikely to achieve anything meaningful in the attempt.

Just as an aside, Zatsa comments about pirates and slavers and hating them is not necessarily an indication that she wants to hunt down Jax's killer. She wants him dead of course, but she's not so wrapped up in emotion that she thinks can track him down or kill him even if she could. He did kill Jax with one full attack after all (even if that was a story thing.)

Man, I always seem to say the wrong thing when it comes to your characters.

Female HP:31/31 l AC: 20 T: 15 FF: 16 l Fort: +6, Ref: +9, Will: +7 l CMB: +5/8, CMD: 19 l Dark vision 60ft, Perception +8, Sense Motive +12, Initiative Bardic Performance 13/13, Spells per Day: 4/4(Level 1), 2/2 (Level 2) Bolts:29

Zatsa regards the serene-looking elf in front of her and despite his calm aura, can't help but feel like a child. She takes a swallows back a little nervousness and begins to speak.

''Well, I'm brave and loyal. Your organization pulled me from nothingness and gave me a chance at more and that is not something I will ever forget. Im skilled with a blade and know my way around a fight. I know my first show of skill was nothing to brag about.'' Her eyes dart unconsciously to Mr. Cobalt for a moment before returning to Eldred.

''But I do not think it can be denied that I made up for that when I was given a second chance.'' Her nostrils flare and her brow becomes furrowed for a moment as though swallowing something unpleasant.

''Doubtless you have heard of everything that transpired aboard the Talon. I will not deny I have a temper that can get the best of me. I am not always the most forward-thinking but I am capable of adapting to a rapidly changing situation.''

Her voice has lost some of the nervousness as she went on but now it starts to creep back into her voice as the subject of what to do with her comes up.

''As for what to do with me, I would hesitate to tell you what you should do with me. I believe that I would do well if you placed me in a situation that required espionage. But, I believe I would do just as well if you put a sword in my hand and asked me to defend my home from slavers and pirates. As I said, I am good with a blade and I hate them as much as anyone ever has. Though the dawnflower teaches us to forgive them and try and bring them to the light, if i am honest I would just as soon see them all hanging from the gallows.''

In hindsight, Ill forget the belt and add Masterwork quality to the bow, if thats alright.

And we can just wait for you to advance the game to next day. I don;t have anything else to add at the moment.

Zatsa nods when Jack gives her, her orders. She chooses not to say anything, understanding that this is a serious moment.

She does not feel too worried though, despite her earlier mistakes during her first test, she feels she has done well.

Zatsa makes her way to the market place, intending on off-loading most of the gear she acquired from the pirates and Gnolls. She thinks she might find a trinket or two with the money she will have gained.

Once she reaches the markets, she looks for a merchant willing to haggle with her and tries to get a good price.

Once she has a little more coin she looks around for any merchants who might have some magical or wondrous items for sale.

This is what Zatsa got from the ship combats that she would like to off load. I counted its value the other day and I think it was 4K and change. So assuming she gets around half of that from selling it, these are the sorts of things Zatsa would like to acquire:

..2 Talisman of Beneficial winds (50 gold each)[Neck slot] Talisman I could not find this on the pfsrd, so here's a link
..Muleback cords (1000 gold)[shoulder]
..Meridian Belt (1000 Gold) [Belt]
..Composite shortbow (+2str)

Obviously all of this assumes you don't just roll to see what is available for sale.

Yeah I just picked those three at random, not throwing shade their way. I actually don;t have bonuses on knowledge checks, its unfortunately one of the things the Dervish of Dawn loses, its what get replaced by Dervish Dance.

Yeah That's kinda what I thought. I wasn't asking for specific lists of monsters just to be be clear, I just didn't want to put a point into Knowledge Religion,Arcana and Dungeoneering (for example) every level and then realize at the end of the game that everything I fought was keyed to local and nature.

I will await your post as always.

Zatsa rubs her chin thoughtfully as she regards Jack and lifts an eyebrow when he mentions captaining this ship.

''Does this mean I have to be respectful and refer to you as 'Captain Jack' from now on?''

Because to be frank I think I'd hate that. She adds silently.

She mutters under her breath about lazy commanders, pots, kettles and black, when she is accused of laziness but says nothing else. She stands on the deck of the ship gazing out at the sky, knowing that tomorrow is going to bring nothing but sore arms and a large headache.

Female HP:31/31 l AC: 20 T: 15 FF: 16 l Fort: +6, Ref: +9, Will: +7 l CMB: +5/8, CMD: 19 l Dark vision 60ft, Perception +8, Sense Motive +12, Initiative Bardic Performance 13/13, Spells per Day: 4/4(Level 1), 2/2 (Level 2) Bolts:29

Zatsa is updated, Silent Image, Glitter dust and Allegro as a new level 1 and new level 2 spells respectively. Level 4 point went into int for a new modifier of 2 and a boost to skills overall. Put a single point into profession sailor as that is how skull and shackles deals with working on a ship if memory serves. If instead we will be using different skills to account for Zatsa's ability to work on a ship let me know and I'll swap the point somewhere else.

Thats about it for my level up, new spell level aside level four is not a huge one for Bards, I guess. I changed up my character sheet a little, I think its slightly easier to grab pertinent information though maybe slightly more cluttered now.

Also can I ask if particular kinds of monsters or monster types are going to be particularly rare or common in this game? I'd like to start specializing in my knowledge skills now that most of them have a point and I was playing around with taking spell focus and maybe GSF for enchantment, but if eventually this turns into pirates of the Caribbean and everything is immune to mind-affecting I'd rather not.

No problem.

Zatsa rools her eyes affectionately, as she squats down to begin relieving the half-elf of his gear.

''Its always with drink with you isn't it friend? I knew halflings liked to eat but I* had no idea they loved to drink this much as well. Still, your timely dagger is much appreciated, first round is on me.''

She pulls the aforementioned dagger from the half-elf and held it up to Godun, hilt first.

''Want it back?'' She asks as she holds it aloft.

Once she is done looting her fallen foe, she turns to survey the clean up and shackling of the various pirates. Rubbing her chin thoughtfully she addresses her friend once more.

''What's the standard practice when it comes to captured vessels? Take them and use them as part of the Andoran Navy?''

Zatsa curses out loud, her calm composure broken by frustration.

Bastard! Godun wouldn't be blind right now if not for me.

Dashing to the side and forward, Zatsa places herself in melee range of her foe and places herself between he and her friend, in case he gets it into his head to strike the halfling while he can't see.

Hefting her sword, she brings it around in a wicked slash, still trying to connect the flat with her damnable foe's head.

Zatsa's smirking widened into a full blown smile when she saw the dagger fly into her opponent and heard Godun's proclamation.

Hopping back to give herself some room Zatsa begins to wave her arms about and chant the words to a spell. As she completes the last of her chanting, she looks the half-elf in the eye and winks, then vanishes from sight.

If I was DM I would have said ''no'' as well but not everyone interprets the rules the exact same. My answer would have been based merely on intent. They used the word ''carry'' but the clear intention is ''f$@! you, you have high dex and you get it to attack and damage''

On a more serious note, once again I have a Dancing Dervish question. It says that it can't be used it you carry a shield in the offhand. Bucklers are technically strapped on and not carried.

Do I get to use bucklers without losing DD?

Zatsa's expression is as grim as most others aboard the ship, as yet another pirate ship comes to claim their lives and freedom. Zatsa prepares for battle just as she did last time, this time she starts with her crossbow, loaded and ready to go.

No, I think she would be too upset to do anything that was not required of her. She'll do her prayers in the morning and continue to observe the crew though she'll be more subdued.

With her prayers done, Zatsa kneels down and places a final, farewell kiss to Jax's forehead before standing and wiping her eyes.

Though her eyes are still rimmed in red and her voice is a little hoarse, Zatsa holds her head up high and looks Jack in the eye.

''Orders sir?''

Damn Omni you cold ;)

Can anyone else say "revenge arc coming soon to a game near you?" (in 5 to 10 levels)

Zatsa can feel her heart rise up into her throat and shatter when her eyes confirmed what her mind had been telling her. Despite her own professed strength and knowing Jax would be rolling his eyes if he could see her, she can't help the tears that come to her eyes or the sobs that follow.

She spends a few minutes clutching at his shirt as she cries before she starts to pull herself together. Knowing Jax would likely grumble at her for her behavior, she stands up and wipes her eyes, though not before closing his. She whispers a quick prayer and stands over him saying nothing else.

My point was only that I had to wallop him for 49 total damage, not that they actually stacked together. It is a little unfortunate that you did forget as he would have been unconscious one round earlier and that may have saved me a potion. Its not really a big deal though. In either case I was mostly trying to refute your point that switching damages is essentially the same as swapping him back to zero.

In the future I will try and refrain from swapping back and forth to make life simpler for both of us, but I did it mostly for RP reasons. I figured when she saw Jax go down, given her hot-headed nature she would stop putting in effort to spare the Gnoll in an effort to get to Jax.

Gameplay post to follow once my lunch break rolls around the corner.

Based on my understanding that's not actually how non-lethal damage works.

Nonlethal Damage
Nonlethal damage represents harm to a character that is not life-threatening. Unlike normal damage, nonlethal damage is healed quickly with rest.

Dealing Nonlethal Damage
Certain attacks deal nonlethal damage. Other effects, such as heat or being exhausted, also deal nonlethal damage. When you take nonlethal damage, keep a running total of how much you’ve accumulated. Do not deduct the nonlethal damage number from your current hit points. It is not “real” damage. Instead, when your nonlethal damage equals your current hit points, you’re staggered (see below), and when it exceeds your current hit points, you fall unconscious.

Staggered and Unconscious
When your nonlethal damage equals your current hit points, you’re staggered. You can only take a standard action or a move action in each round (in addition to free, immediate, and swift actions). You cease being staggered when your current hit points once again exceed your nonlethal damage.

When your nonlethal damage exceeds your current hit points, you fall unconscious. While unconscious, you are helpless.

If a creature’s nonlethal damage is equal to his total maximum hit points (not his current hit points), all further nonlethal damage is treated as lethal damage. This does not apply to creatures with regeneration. Such creatures simply accrue additional nonlethal damage, increasing the amount of time they remain unconscious.

I quoted the relevant parts and I eagerly await a gear list.

I would have to agree, that bastard of a Gnoll ate 49 combined lethal and non-lethal damage before dropping. Since the fight is over do you mind if I ask the Gnolls basic stats?(specifically HD and HP)

Also before I forget this is my loot check, focusing on the two Gnolls she downed personally.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

I would have rolled it in the gameplay thread but it would not have made sense in character for her to loot before making sure her old man is okay/alive.

Edit: In light of that she's taking 20.

With the fighting over, Zatsa spares only a moment to nod and smile quickly at Godun and Jack, glad that they are fine, before rushing to her father's side.

She kneels next to his prone body and quickly begins to assess the extent of his injuries.

I suppose, but leaving Jack to get his ass kicked seems like a less than a great idea ;)

Again if this thing is somehow still alive, she will not draw her wand.
Also is there a clear path to the spearman or would Zatsa have to fight her way through first?

Dammit Godun/ She thinks a little uncharitably.

Zatsa grits her teeth at the Gnoll, baring her teeth in a feral grin. She swings once more trying to down him once and for all.

Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 7 + 2 = 18
Attack: 1d6 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 2 = 12

She tries one last time to get get Godun's help.

''Try and cut through these damn Gnolls, Jack needs our help.''

Zatsa draws her wand once more, preparing to heal the last of her wounds before joining Jack in battle.

She contemplates the spearman once more noting that his wounds do not seem to heal from Jack's rapier as they did from Jax's axes.

What manner of creature are you?

Zatsa suppresses a shudder as she notes that the spearman does not even seem to stumble for a microsecond. She can feel the beginnings of fear coursing through her as she realizes just how dangerous this foe might be.In either case she has her own foe to attend to. Beginning her familiar dance once more and swinging at her foe, Zatsa tries to finish him so she might rally some allies and help Jack and Jax.
