My wife and I just started playing a dragon-bonded pair, so it would be nice to know if actually riding the dragonkin is viable. After all, Triaxus has a long and glorious history of dragonkin carrying their partners into battle! Creature companions in Starfinder do a certain amount of hand-waving to allow riding mounts to work. IIRC, they are assumed to be able to carry a smaller-sized rider, and are only encumbered if you are. But those rules don't really work if both the riding and ridden characters are PCs. I wish they'd had the idea to assign Bulk based on a creature's size category in Starfinder, rather than waiting until PF2 to provide a rule for it. (Ah, well, hopefully that means we'll have an answer for SF2?)

Zaradanth is in good spirits from the team's successful mission, and gladly accepts the subdermal graft from Guidance. But as proud as he is of his own accomplishments, he's even more proud of his partner Sijasi. He congratulates each of his other teammates as well, with sincere wishes that they will work together again in the future. Like Kalhoun, he is wearing military-style clothing at the graduation ceremony, though his is not nearly so formal as the Steward's. However, it's clear that he and Sijasi have spent some time making sure their scales and horns are well burnished and looking their best.

Culture: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19 Deliberately speaking in a softer rumble than usual, Zaradanth points out that the leader blinks one or both left eyes when his tone is gentler. Zaradanth squints at the (relatively tiny) brochure in bafflement, and keeps an eye on the exits. When he hears noises on the stairs, he says quietly, "Let's hope these are more tourists coming, and not something dangerous." The dragonkin had cleaned and sheathed his sword while resting, but takes up a position where he can shield the others and, if necessary, fill the entrance to the room with a gout of flame.

FYI, Sijasi's player and I will be at a convention October 27-29, so we can't guarantee we'll have the time and energy to post that weekend. From what I can remember of this scenario, we have a good shot at being done by then, but I thought I'd mention it just in case we aren't.

Zaradanth smashes his sword into the first skeleton that rushes him {blue?), but then hisses in pain as the monster gouges him in return. A moment later the hiss turns into an angry roar, as he makes two quick cuts with his blade, focusing on the skeleton he already damaged. Full attack vs. blue:

(Don't forget to move your tokens on the map.) Zaradanth flies across the crevice as his companions follow the narrow path along its edge. He lands inside the round room and looks around. Would the red adu's movement have provoked an AoO from Zaradanth, who has 10 ft. reach? If so:

So much for partner-bond initiative shenanigans. We tied for last! <I’m coming, Sijasi!> Zaradanth sends to his partner, as he rushes forward to her side. The dragonkin doesn’t have room to move past her, so looms over her protectively, ready to fend off further attacks with his longsword. He inhales deeply, and roars as he breathes a gout of fire onto both alien animals. Breath weapon (fire): 1d6 ⇒ 3 (30 ft. cone, Reflex DC 12 half) Unless one of the adu provokes an AoO first (Zaradanth has 10 ft reach), he will be ready to use his reaction to Bodyguard Sijasi if/when she is attacked again (grants +2 AC vs. the attack, he takes -2 to his AC until the start of his next turn).

Zaradanth moves to the opening to the south to keep watch in that direction. "Do we want to go this way, or check out that door first?" he asks, pointing one wingtip at the wall to his right. Perception: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (5) + 0 = 5

"And she'll lecture me the most if any of us get hurt, because there's more of me to patch up," Zaradanth comments with a toothy smirk at his partner as he joins her and Thistlecore by the south door. "A little warrior or explorer, maybe? And cute, it has little wings-flaps. I like it," Zaradanth comments after briefly glancing at the toy in passing. "Does anyone know what this does?" he asks, gesturing at the device at the center of the room. During the voyage here, the dragonkin confessed to not being very technically-minded. "It's giving off heat, but I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not."

As Zaradanth listens to the others talk, he moves carefully about the room to check the exits. "That sounds useful," he says in response to Xeno's conclusions, then he emits a low, rumbling chuckle at Kalhoun's comment. "Sounds more fun than a tour of duty," the soldier declares.

Zaradanth takes point as the team heads into the structure. He's not the most observant member of the team, but he has been trained to act as a living shield for his teammates, when necessary. "If there is trouble, stay near me," the dragonkin rumbles to the others. As a dragon, Zaradanth has darkvision, but someone with an empty upgrade slot should take the IR sensors. When the Starfinders reach the space dock, Zaradanth takes a moment to carefully stretch out the kinks in his wings, as he knows that the next few days will be spent in cramped quarters for a person of his size. Zaradanth would agree after the intent was explained to him, but I lack the time and inspiration for any clever roleplaying to that effect at the moment. But I love the mental image of the tiny frog explaining why he wants to be allowed to shoot his allies to the big, hulking dragon bodyguard.

<<Bah, sitting is awkward unless it's a proper Triaxian-built gunner's chair>>, Zaradanth replies telepathically to Sijasi, but he does crouch to bring his head closer to the level of hers. Aloud, the dragonkin rumbles a polite, "Well met, Steward," to Kalhoun. Zaradanth looks curiously at the ghoran for a moment. "Finding one's place is important. Mine is at my partner Sijasi's side, wherever our missions take us," he states, nodding his head towards the rather dragonish vesk he's standing with.

Heavy footsteps can be heard behind Sijasi, as a looming dragonkin follows her into the briefing room. His heavy armor is enameled to match the color scheme of his silver and black scales, and a longsword and large rifle are strapped to his sides. A small transparent panel over his shoulder blade draws the eye to a dull patch of hide where a single large scale has been removed. The dragon takes care not to bump into any furniture--or other Starfinders--with his massive body, wings, or tail as he moves to the side to avoid blocking the entrance. He spots the hologram, and catches himself as he starts to salute. Instead, he inclines his head politely, and says crisply, “Recruit Zaradanth reporting for duty, sir.”
