Let's keep the game moving. Atop his perch Zanto takes careful aim, inhaling to his gut, then releases a lightning fast bolt of chi that disrupts the air in a line. It lands a good chunk in front of the stampede, not close enough to hurt any, then explodes outwards with a violent BOOM. Hopefully a sudden explosion right in front if them will scare them off.
Welp, nobody told me no. Let's scare off some animals! Zanto breathes in slowly, filling his chest with air. He watches the stampede approach as the thorn walls are put up, carefully judging the distance. "I've got a clear shot, but only for so long." I took the improved aim thing so I'm really accurate when I take an action to aim.
Hahaha when I opened up the map the first thing that loaded was the "you are here" and then my internet stuttered, so I thought that was it. I got all cross and thought Well that isn't very helpful. Zanto lowers his head as if in shame for a moment, but then chuckles along with the merchants. "Yeah yeah, every innovator has his critics!" He looks around at the thin circle of stones, excited to get to practice his bending in the dangerous area but also a little nervous. "Umm, perhaps we should thicken the circle? Just a little so that..." He turns at the sounds of rain talk. Great, just what we need. Unexpected weather. His gaze drifts over to Ima and her little glances at Kalden. There was a pang of jealousy that the rough air bender caught her eye over him, but he knew he was being foolish and pushed it aside. I'd be interested in his stories as well. All of the airbenders I know are peaceful nomads. I wonder what could have happened to him... He snaps out of his thoughts as Ima asks the question, bringing a lopsided smile to his face. "Have I ever told you how I leveled half a building because of a fist fight?" "So I was in this little seedy tavern in a town where the honorable people were pirates. It was a...deviation from a military camp mission. Me and some of the guys were drinking and gambling when some big earthbender claimed my friend was cheating. The next minute is typical big drunk men yelling at each other and somebody throws a punch, but instead of a little brawl that ends quickly we all decided to join in, turned that bar into a warzone. Soon as that earthbender threw a rock at us the rest of the bending broke out and things got dangerous. Now, as some of you may be aware of, I am not particularly good at keeping my bending under control..." He smiles at the merchants, waving down their jeers. "So what I was trying to do was send a small, controlled blast to knock the big guy back. Well at the same time this little runt decided to sweep out my leg. Now that changed my stance pretty dramatically, and I was a little, well unsteady on my feet as is. So what started as this..." He shows a small, controlled jabbing motion strait forward. "...turned into this." He throws out his leg, opening his arms wide in a big sweeping motion. Anybody that knows anything about bending can tell that's a very large sweep of fire coming out from that move. "So naturally half the place caught on fire, completely due to that little runt grabbing me." "So the second half of the story is that apparently the big earthbender fellow was a sailor. An earthbender who spends his time on the water, I know right? Anyways we run out of the burning building, but there's a lot of people pretty upset with us at this point and we can't get back to our ostrich horses. So we make a run for the water and jump on the first ship we see. Now the earthbender guy starts yelling out at us about stealing his boat and we're just dying laughing." "And that's why I docked with a boat that got confiscated."
Airon87 wrote: Oh wow, Zanto! That's always a good start. Airon87 wrote: 1) you don't have to pay for every AE in an array. You pay for the first power (30 pp) and then spend 1 pp for each Alternate Effect you wish to add. Talikriktug, Darvin and Kalden all have arrays on your sheets, check them out. You can add a couple more AE (do not exaggerate). Sweetness. I'll get that filled out and redistribute the points elsewhere. Airon87 wrote: 2) Since you just discovered to have almost 30 pp more, you should invest in your defenses. Either raise Parry and Dodge (the 10 already in the sheet is the default, like the 10 in the AC in Pathfinder. It doens't count against Power level), or raise your Stamina to get a somewhat decent Toughness and Fortitude... +1 Toughness is abismally low, it's like having 15 hp at level 9. Oh lordy. I wanted him to be a glass cannon, but not that much. I'll bump it up, thanks. Airon87 wrote: 3) your combustion-bending power still has the side-effect Flaw, which I think you removed (since we never decided upon the actual side-effect). The Affliction should list the Limited Effect flaw. Distracting should apply to both the Damage and the Affliction. I thought distracting was the flaw? How should I list it than? Airon87 wrote: 4) if you wish to be able to use fire control for utility, you need to spend one point on the Precise extra for your fire-bending array. Can do. Haha I knew there was going to be errors, but man did I mess that one up. Thanks!
Ok, so I am (tentatively) ready to say that Zanto is done being built. Sorry if I made any amateur mistakes or have something unbalanced (like spending way too much on one thing or not enough on another). Darvin how did you get 20 damage on your plant spike ability? I thought the maximum damage was twice our power level, and that's only if we completely dropped the accuracy.
Difficult terrain would be cool, an interesting way to get some battlefield control in there. But I was looking more for destroying cover, like blowing up a wagon if somebody hides behind it. Distracting is perfect! Right on flavor wise. Ok I'll only do one area, doing multiple would be very expensive and not worth it.
So my understanding is that a single target ranged attack that does 10 damage would cost 20pp, and a ranged AoE would cost 30pp (do I need to buy powers separately for different shapes and sizes?). For combustion bending most of the effect will be combining power attack and all out attack, but I want to have a little more flavor oomph added to it, like destroying a small bit of terrain. Any idea how much pp that would cost?
So I have returned with more specifically what I want to do with the powers. My accuracy with ranged attacks is 8 so I want the damage to be 10 on everything and I'll juggle the numbers around with different ways to attack, like all out attack.
Hmm, much to think on. Yes that helped quite a bit Airon.
I want firebending to manifest as a few different powers. Single target, aoe, a shield, utility (setting things on fire, cooking food, fire breath to keep from freezing). At higher levels I might add fire skating and flying, but I know that right now at our power level that would be a little unrealistic. I also want combustion bending to be defined as something more damaging but more dangerous.
Well I started diving into character creation. I got done with ability scores, skills, advantages, and complications. I haven't looked at defense yet, but I got pretty stuck on powers. I'm not entirely sure how to make them manifest how I like beyond using energy control and/or blast as the base idea.
The required format is completely understandable, I require that in my own games. I have almost zero experience with this system, but I'm a math/science major and pick up these kind of things pretty quickly. I intend to do lots of reading on the main site for the rules, but plenty of help would be appreciated. |
