Yates steps with the Zuvembie in time, ending up in nearly the exact same spot as earlier, and takes a stab at the thing again. "Nope, not leaving you out of my sight! Time to ... wait you don't have any pickles to extract do you... uh Time to extract your organs! ... Shyka's eternal timer does that sound terrible. There must be a better way to put that" He blathers like this for a bit until someone steps up across from him and he remembers where he is. He then lashes out with the extractor of pickles.

given he was out of reach, Yates probably had to yeet that club branch last round. So he needs a new weapon right?

Yates's face pales as the undead steps up to him, clearly not wanting the thing in his face. He fumbles at his monk sash for a moment before pulling out the pickle extractor and brandishes it about as he refits his hands around the stick into an impromptu brass knuckles. He then stabs out with the pointed bit. "Shyka said this was going to be important someday... I sure hope that it isn't today!"

Hoping to find something long enough to not have to fight right next to the undead thing, but I'm probably going to have to suck it up. Sadly his feat that allows him to give abilities to weapons doesn't give reach as an option.

Did Yates get a good stick for whacking things? Something like a quarterstaff?

Yates raises up the branch in his hands by the far end, it's weight causing him to have to shift to one foot, making him look like the epitome of an untrianed combatant on the verge of losing their balance. He stays in the pose, however, constantly seeming to hover on the brink of toppling over, the weight of the branch the only thing keeping him from doing so. After a second or two, he starts moving into action, half tottering, half toppling forward, as he brings the branch around, using the full weight of his body nearly toppling over to drive the impact of the weapon even further.

The compass is a half pound, the pickle extractor 2 pounds but can be left behind (and mayhap should be!)

Yates gives a smile as he hands over the compass, he then picks up the pickle extractor, pauses as he stares at it for a long time, before ultimately putting it into his pack and sighing, "I hate to leave this behind, but I guess Shyka would have fortold that this shouldn't be with me now... I hope. The Many would have warned me to 'keep it on me always' otherwise right? Instead of 'keep it safe'? I might be risking it if I took it with me and it got discovered."

The man instead pulls out a small collapsible pole and a pair of squishy inserts. "I do think this pole and these inserts would be good to have if there's room."

Yates can provide a trekking pole (2lbs.) that increases overland speed, and cushion inserts (negligible weight) adds a +1 to constitution checks vs running or fatigue from forced marches. Could help anyone who needs it.

Question, I can't seem to find any ruling on this one way or another, but could Yates use parts of the clothing provided to him for an implement?

Implements:

At 1st level, an occultist learns to use two implement schools. At 2nd level and every 4 occultist levels thereafter, the occultist learns to use one additional implement school, to a maximum of seven schools at 18th level. Each implement school adds one spell per spell level of that school of magic to the occultist’s spell list. No spells from any other school are considered to be on the occultist’s spell list until he selects the associated implement school. He can’t use spell trigger or spell completion magic items from unknown schools without succeeding at the appropriate Use Magic Device check. An occultist can select an implement school more than once in order to learn additional spells from the associated school.

Each implement school is represented by a small list of objects. Every day, the occultist selects one item from that school’s list to be his implement for the day for each implement school he knows. The occultist needs only one such item to cast spells of the corresponding school, unless he selected that implement school multiple times, in which case he needs one item for each set of spells gained from that school. Implements don’t need to be magic items, and nonmagical implements don’t take up a magic item slot even if they’re worn. Implements that are not magic items are often of some historical value or of personal significance to the occultist, such as the finger bone of a saint, the broken scepter of a long-dead king, the skull of a mentor’s familiar, or the glass eye of an uncanny ancestor.
Emphasis mine

The rules says he has to select from a limited list of items, and transformation includes sandals or vests as options. However it later states that magic items or items of some historical or personal value are most common to use, however it doesn't seem to prevent him from using a regular pair of sandals or vest.

On the other hip is a clock that on closer inspection proves to be a compass as well as a book in a special made holder.

He takes a seat at the table setting down his bag and watching the group with interest, before turning his attention to the venture captain. His face pales as he listens to the explanation of the race and what needs to happen. "I'll have to leave my things behind? But they're all I have, and I wouldn't trust them with anyone else! If I truly have to then I guess I could leave them here, perhaps? But my vest... My compass!" He tosses open the flap on his bag and pulls out a stick with a spike on the end, "My PICKLE EXTRACTOR! I can't just leave these things!"

Wait I thought the last one was level 4, oops, that was where I was making a mistake.

Wait I think we're back into the 2.66 APL, with losing a level 3 and gaining a different level 3. Though this could be a difficult scenario to try doing at high levels if we don't have a good spread of abilities.

Cool! That sounds like fun. Yates will be okay for the most part, I think. Let's see how this goes!

Okay figured out the system. Seems there's no way to properly redeem hem now and we have to keep track ourselves but I have 5 possible replays so I'll use one here.

I'm asking to make sure I can replay (as the option isn't showing on my boons screen yet) but I'd love to play this with Yates if I can.

You should have a few replays from the 2E launch

Yep I should! I have no clue how to use them, though. Dat's the problem. Though I would looooove to use Yates cause he'd shine in that scenario.

I've sadly played that one! It's a fun scenario and well worth playing. Not sure if I have any replays available I could use on it, though, so I might have to bow out of it. Thanks for offering to run something else for us. It was great to play on your first table and it truly did not feel like your first game of PBP GMing!

I got Yate's chronicle and downloaded it as well. It looks good.

It's done in addition to that I believe. However it costs an amount of prestige points as well as the gold pieces and time spent.

Yates gives a small sigh over the loss of the animal's lives. "They weren't inherently evil or bad, just set their nest up in the wrong spot. Though why they would nest so close to what must be a at least semi-regularly used road, I will never know why. Also why did they chose now to harry people on the road... I guess those questions shall stay unanswered."

Yates pauses for a second to remember if any of the texts he'd read on cooking practices of varies cultures had anything to say about the use of axebeak meat. Knowledge (nature shoot he's not trained... uh local)?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12 He then takes a few moments to see about ways to try hauling the birds back with them, to bury or eat in which ever order. Assuming there are two big branches nearby he makes a simple travois for the carcasses. "Well that should help clean up the mess we made here."

As he falls in next to everyone dragging his self-imposed burden, he tries to participate in the conversation with Lander

Yates has a puzzled look for a second. "Can't we at least use the flats of our blades? Try to conk them out instead of cutting them open? I'm not formally trained in using weapons, so I might be speaking out my rear, but I thought that was possible... But yeah I agree leaving them here would be unconscionable."

Yates looks up at the pair of beasts directly for a moment. "We leave them here and there's going to be problems for the next group, and they might not be as heavily armed. Anyway we can knock them out and relocate them and their nests? Lander, you have any appropriately remote land that your family wouldn't object to you using?"

Yates stays towards the back of the group curious as to all that is going on around him, he stops and tries to memorize the birds to sketch them later, before reaching slowly for anything nearby that could be used as a weapon...
