Sneak Attack: 1d6
The rogue's attack deals extra damage anytime her target would be denied a Dexterity bonus to AC (whether the target actually has a Dexterity bonus or not), or when the rogue flanks her target. This extra damage is 1d6 at 1st level, and increases by 1d6 every two rogue levels thereafter. Should the rogue score a critical hit with a sneak attack, this extra damage is not multiplied. Ranged attacks can count as sneak attacks only if the target is within 30 feet. With a weapon that deals nonlethal damage (like a sap, whip, or an unarmed strike), a rogue can make a sneak attack that deals nonlethal damage instead of lethal damage. She cannot use a weapon that deals lethal damage to deal nonlethal damage in a sneak attack, not even with the usual –4 penalty. The rogue must be able to see the target well enough to pick out a vital spot and must be able to reach such a spot. A rogue cannot sneak attack while striking a creature with concealment. Nothing yet Background:
Basic idea is a human male who comes from a Sczarni family but whose father wrestled himself out of it when he and his younger brother were little and became a honest business man (as far as businessmen are honest). Xaviandrin (my character), aka 'Xavi', and his brother worked as low ranking Sczarni thugs in their teens, to the dismay of their father. Both committed what they called victimless crimes, only things like theft and fraud. Xavi himself was a burglar. When he grew older he left the Sczarni and their crime behind, as much as one can. He instead turned his skill as a burglar to a legal use and became a locksmith. His brother however never managed to get out of the life of crime, mostly due to substance abuse on his side. Now he is in such a debt to the Sczarni that they have come knocking at Xavi's door, basically demanding he'd do one last thing for them to clear his brother's debt. That one last thing is infiltrating in the Solrath Consortium. As a result of all of this he would be very open to switching sides, as long as the Solrath could help him get his brother free. He doesn't care about the Sczarni at all, would rather be rid of them.
Recent History:
Xavi runs a small shop at the edge of Magnimar's Dockside district. The building also houses a small warehouse for his father's import/export company which is used purely for temporary storage of cargo. Most of Xavi's work consists of making and repairing locks for merchants though on occasion he is hired to open a lock for which the key has been lost. He is in a relationship with the daughter of a tailor who has a shop on the same street. Neither she nor her parents know of Xavi's past as part of a Sczarni gang and he tries to keep it that way. Appearance:
Xavi always appears well taken care of, his face shaved and his clothes tidy. Only his work clothes tend to be marred with oil stains but even they are otherwise clean and tidy. Xavio never wears anything that bares more than his forearm for while those are covered in traditional Varisian tattoos the tattoos that mark him as Sczarni are on the rest of his arm and his torso. Family:
Xavi is the eldest of three children born to Varingil and Leathicia. He has a younger sister, Thedaria, and a younger brother, Humbarian. Xavi's father owns an import/export company mainly operating from Riddleport. They specialise in transporting valuable goods anywhere between Ossirion and the northern Dragon Empires, mainly Minkai. While his practices are legal he has a strict "don't ask, don't tell" policy and as such has transported several illegal items over the years. The only thing he refuses to transport is live, sentient cargo.
His mother is in the wind most of the time. She is a harrower and part of a Varisian caravan. He sees her roughly once a year, when the caravan comes to the outskirts of Magnimar and he has no idea where she is or what she does the rest of the year.
His sister has recently been married to a Half Elf and is pregnant. She lives in Riddleport where she works in their father's company. She is the company face and she also is the one that negotiated a deal with several Riddleport pirates where they actually protect the company's vessels, for a price of course.
The youngest brother is a problem child. The only one to stick with the Sczarni and also known fro substance abuse, both father and sister broke all contact. He occasionally comes to Xavi when he needs a place to hide for a few days, mostly from the guards. Recently he has gotten himself into a giant mess because of his debts to a man called Rassimeri Kaijarko, a crime lord based in Rag's End in Magnimar. |
