Initiative1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14 Just for ease of play and speed, Xan's first round actions are leap to attack the nearest spider. Power Attack, Furious Focus, and Cleave (-2 AC for one round). 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 171d12 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 If first attack hits then 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 211d12 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Xan walks slowly down the path, pointing out the various items he's found. I'd say that whoever was here didn't want to be followed. Something spooked the horse and it took off running. We need to be on our guard. I'll go first, follow about 15' behind me. Flynn, you're with me. Xan will then proceed forward cautiously.
Xan looks at Keiran and says Do you really have to ask? We go in hard and fast and then offer terms from a position of strength. I don't think this Kressle will be one to submit so she'll probably have to be killed anyway. I'm thinking that exploring will be much easier and safer once we get rid of some of these bandits.
Xan is clearly getting frustrated and impatient and as such he starts forward towards Bokken's he says I just told you ye daft fool! We are here to see if we can purchase some potions and such from ye but based upon how you treat potential customers, I'm thinking yer as liable to poison us as do what ye intend. Now can we quit the posturing?!?

Fair enough. Xan smiles at the honest answer. Keiran is not like most nobles but I think you will see that for yourself. As far as a trade goes...I'm not sure what else I can teach you so we'll go with woodscraft and tracking for the time being. We will figure out the rest as we go.
Xan smiles at the Lady Bisimone's kind words and gentle touch. It reminds him why he is fighting and what he hopes to accomplish in this new land. Shaking himself from his melancholy he joins the feast with a smile. He approaches Rash and takes him aside for a quick chat. Here is what is going to happen. I freed you, so I am responsible for you from here on out. I can make you this promise though. I will treat you with respect if you do the same with me. I do not expect much from you other than you hold to your word that you are trying to make a better life for yourself. Trust me, though I am a noble by birth myself, I have no love for most of those degenerate louts that call themselves by that title in Brevoy. My father actually sent me on this little mission with the hopes that I would get myself killed on the frontier. Now, do you have any questions for me? About your role? Anything you would like to learn in terms of a trade or is there a trade you already have that you could hone?
When the deed is done and the songs and burials are finished, Xan will head back to Oleg's. Seeking a secluded corner, Xan kneels and gives his own prayers for the souls of the men who's lives he just took. When he is completed he let's the tears that he kept hidden flow as he laments the waste of life and love that could have been had. He had no doubt that what he had done was right and just, but it still left an ache within him to do it. Anyone that wants too can have seen this as Xan is not hiding, he just moved away from the common areas into a corner of the compound.
Of course Brother Simon. Xan continues with the other two. He seems very grim as he sets about his work. He takes absolutely no pleasure in this but he sees it as protecting future lives from their evil. 1d12 + 9 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 9 + 10 = 241d12 + 9 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 9 + 10 = 20 Fort DC 24 for the first one. Fort DC 20 for the second one.
I am in agreement with Bisimone...those three must die. As to the rest, I will go with what the group thinks best but I will not have men fighting beside me that I cannot trust. That is folly and should not be condoned until the men prove their worth and honor. He sighs and says, Now let's get this over with quickly. I have no interest in prolonging their suffering any longer, they need to die and therefore will die. They have neither earned the right to trial by combat nor am I inclined to give it to them anyway. They have done murder and things most foul and as such their lives are forfeit. Let's just get it done. With that Xan will bring Happs outside and lash him to the wood. Anything you'd like to say before you meet Pharasma? Now is the time. Xan will wait until Happs has said his peace before delivering the blow. Coup de gras 1d12 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15 Fortitude DC 25
No need to build a gibbet Adreccam. I'll take care of it. I'm only interested in them that sincerely want to change their ways. Some of these men have done murder and such. They die along with Happs. At that Xan will grab Happs and take him outside to a clear area and place him on the ground. Bring me a cord of wood and hold him still.
Xan looks at the man and then back at Bisimone. I think that is an excellent idea. Xan will then go forward and pull his dagger, This will be quick I assure you. He moves behind Rash, pulls his head back gently...and cuts his bonds. Xan will then move and squat in front of him and say Here is what is going to happen. You are guilty of banditry by your own admission. We are not unswayed by your story though and I see a good man in you that has lost his way. So...you are hereby sentenced to serve here in Oleg's Trading Post however he requires for a year and a day. You will work and repay the cost that you have incurred upon this man's home. At the end of your term, you can stay here if Oleg wishes it, go free upon your own...or...you can join into my Lady Bisimone's service. Either way you will be provided for and will have purpose to your life once more. I will give this same offer to Seamus as well. Know this though, Xan gives the man a merciless look, If you make me regret giving you this chance, I will come and kill you myself. Make no mistake that what I say is true. Xan backs off again and helps the man to his feet. Now...what do you say?
Rash...what made you think that I would kill you...or any of your men for that matter. Our charter from the nobility of Brevoy says that we hold the lives of any brigands we come across to be forfeit that is true. What you do not know is that it allows for repentant bandits who wish to return to the path of righteousness and honor to do so and keep their lives intact. You have spoken well and do yourself honor by offering to sacrifice yourself for the young man Seamus. Now I ask you this and speak plain to me as well. Do you wish to redeem yourself in the eyes of gods and men?
Xan looks at brother Simon with a bit of shock. Who knew he had it in him? Xan will finally pull the axe out of the ground and resume sharpening it. The whole time he has been watching the reactions of the prisoners and most especially the fourth one. He seems to have a bit of spine to him and perhaps would be good to ask questions of. My lady. Perhaps it would be good to questions some of them separate. Brother Simon and Flynn would you be kind enough to watch the prisoners? Unless they object, Xan will pull fourth from the line and bring him to a secluded spot with Lady Bisimone to have a chat. He seems a man who keeps his wits about him.

Your wish is my command my lady. Xan says with a courtly bow. He goes over to the stacked wood and finds the largest piece he can. He sets it upright and without bothering to use a splitter for the wood, whips his axe over his head with merciless speed and brings it down upon the wood. Power Attack+Furious Focus1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 141d12 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21 Woohoo max damage and I think a 14 should hit a cord of wood lol. The wood nigh explodes from the might of the blow, splinters of wood flying everywhere. When the air clears you see that the axe has not only shattered the wood but has buried itself a foot deep into the stone below upon which the wood was placed. Xan leaves the axe there quivering, letting his prowess do the talking for him.
Xan will laugh and say, Yes, my lady. I do not believe that any of them wish to continue with this folly. He looks back at the group, hefts his axe a bit higher on his shoulder and says unless any of you wish to get a very close hair cut. I can take about a foot off the top of each of you? He smiles and looks bored as if either would please him.
Sounds good to me! Be nice to get the jump on them and put on the hurt. I'll go check the walls about your exit. Flynn you comin? At that Xan will start to make a circuit of the walls, checking for a place for an alternate exit but also doing a cursory check over the walls and grounds. He is looking for spots that might be good for deadfalls and spike pits in case Oleg's needs to be defended from a more substantial force in the future.

Yeah well she may need two axes but I bet my one will work for her just fine. I say we let them in lock the door behind them and put it to them straight. Surrender or be picking my axe out of their worthless skulls. How's that sound? Xanthan knocks back his ale. And thank you very much mistress Svetlana. That was the best meal I have had in a long time. He then lets loose a loud belch before reddening a bit and saying a bit sheepishly excuse me.

Xan will follow Bisimone over to the table and take a seat. After a moment he speaks in a low whisper. Speaking Sylvan: Even so my Lady. If anyone had responded to a traveler like that at my father's gates he would have had their heads off but I will of course bow to your wisdom in this.

Xan looks at the rude response to his friend and says, We're here to save your miserable hide you crotchety old man. Is this how you greet all those who come to help you?
Xanthan will follow closely at his friend's side. Ever watchful for threat and attack. Though he and Keiran like to play jokes with one another, Xanthan feels an intense bond to Keiran more akin to what one would feel with a flesh and blood brother. Despite his teasing, Xan believes that Keiran can be a great leader if given the opportunity and support and is fully behind his friend. As Xan rides, he looks back at Bisimone. He has not met a woman such as she before, she reminds Xan much of himself but with much more polish. She seems to enjoy the chase and the game that is played between the sexes. Flynn is somewhat of an enigma. He is very young but carries himself with an air of someone who has given orders in the past. Perhaps a noble of some sort yet he claims no name. He seems a bit like Xan in the sense of he has a lot of spirit but needs a bit of seasoning. Definitely someone who could be useful on this endeavor but hopefully his exuberance will be turned to positive things and not put him in danger. Addrecam is someone interesting. He appears to be used to command but seems to shun it, allowing others to speak instead. This is not necessarily a bad thing except it seems like it comes from a lack of confidence in himself more than a conscious decision to allow others to speak. Perhaps a leader can be drawn out of him in the future. Xan chuckles as he looks at Simondale, not at the man himself but at the interactions Xan is imagining they will be having in the future. Xan and Brother Simondale seem to be polar opposites in their approach to life. Xan is a man that denies himself nothing as he knows not how long he will be upon this plane and plans to make the most of his time here having fun and enjoying himself. The good Brother seems to deny himself everything in preference to a somewhat ascetic life in devotion to his god. Not that Xan finds anything wrong with that life, it is fine for him, it is just something that Xan does not believe he could ever do. Taking a deep breath of clean fresh air, Xanthan Arcos Lebeda rides towards Oleg's and his future among friends.
Xanthan has been enjoying the ride south. This is where he belongs, on the road in the fresh air, with a new land ahead of him and friends at his side. Sometime in the ride south when we stopped for a while, Xanthan would have sneaked itchweed into Keirans small clothes for the servant remark. Having redressed the score of their little game for the time being, Xanthan would have contented himself with flirting with Bisimone and going out scouting to make sure the group wasn't being followed and to check for any creatures to be aware of. When they came across the herd of elk, Xanthan would have marked the area on his map making kit for future reference. It is always good to know where reliable sources of food and pelts are. During the rest of the trip he will make small talk with the group, spar with Keiran, Adeccam and anyone else who is interested. He is also very interested in learning about the backgrounds and cultures that everyone is from and will ask any who are willing to talk while sharing his own story freely enough, though he will leave out the part about his father wanting him dead. After all that is definitely not an uplifting way to continue a conversation.
As am I in agreement. Keiran you go that way. Xan points in a random direction to the north. Scout ahead and we will catch up. He starts to laugh heavily as ale snorts out of his nose. Though I would like to sleep in a nice bed, I do not believe we should tempt fate by delaying. Xan then, without another word starts packing up his things, which are usually pretty quickly to hand. When he is finished he will help anyone else that needs it. I suggest we sleep in shifts on the wagon so that we can get at least a little rest on the way. It will not be ideal but it is better than nothing. Once we reach Oleg's hopefully because we pressed may have a bit of downtime before the bandits come to rest and plan.
I'm not sure how to take that you look at a list of criminals and then immediately ask me if I know any of them. He gives a laugh to show he took no offense. But no I do not believe I know any of them although a few names are familiar but I cannot place if I actually know them or have only heard of them. Anyone else? Xan then reads the list of names aloud to see if anyone knows any of them.
