I was a little disappointed with the tired cliche of the dwarf-drow-duergar trio. And to have a 4th level party greeted by 2 krenshar(followed a whole round later by 4 goblins) seemed a little unchallenging to me. The entire 8-room dungeon was a cakewalk for the players. On the plus side, let me say first that I was delighted that fate once again placed me in the lofty DM's chair, a role I play with both pride and humility. When I first sat down as a player, I had arrived in the nick of time not knowing if I could even make it to the event. When another table needed a DM, I jumped at the chance! The players at my table were a delight. Four out of five knew each other and had a jocular ambience rolling across the table. Also, in defense of the adventure itself(a dungeon crawl has to be quite good to interest me as I prefer event and journey style goodness) I must say that the simplicity certainly was helpful for someone like me who just arrived having NO prep time at all or for new DMs and children(there was a dad with 2 young boys). I also appreciated the crypt which was obviously optional(my players were smart enough not to desecrate their own ancestral burial chamber!). The wraith mini is very nice. Being given only one ice mephit mini seemed a little cheap to me( as did giving the players only a d20 and not the other dice as well). Still, I am very grateful to be walking away with all this DM loot! So all in all, I have to commend WOTC on a good performance overall (finally-sheesh).
i have to admit that what I'm seeing so far does seem interesting: from the new website (yay!I'm finally in-I guess we didn't destroy the internet with our rabid love/hate bated breath click-click-clicking on that one button) to the reports from GenCon coming in from many different websites(actually I've only seen enworld-thanks Sebastian- Paizo and Wizards-and that gleemax brain is even more annoying in a physical puppet version) to the general hubbub ; who wouldn't enjoy it just for the sheer ridiculosity(teehee) of it . After all: IT IS A Game!(bunch'a'clowns we be)

yea, thanks, EP 1. regarding orcs in Varisia:
It came from an image I had of the noble orc captain at the prow of his ship... that innovation(at least a subrace) would totally make me subscribe to Pathfinder! 2.I will be emailing josh about volunteering at gencon...

OK, I'll continue this thread! I am also interested in discussing GenCon Indy because I've never been. I had an amazing experience last year at the last ever GenConSoCal even though I only went one day. I missed TrueDungeon but I won't miss it this time!So if there is to be a new category for GenCon-I'd love this post to get moved there(save me from slow-typing the whole message again!) also, if there is something we can do to help Paizo, I'd like to be in on that as well-I'm running some Eberron games at my local LA Strategicon this month but I want to be more of a wanderer at this GC carnival(maybe putting down a few tent stakes at Paizo booth!) -and finally-I plan to fly to Indianapolis. I've booked a room at the SleepInnWest and would love to share it with one or more of the wonderful folks on these boards anyway-GenCon comments, anyone? |
