Hi yall,

I'd like to cancel my AP subscription after I receive the 3rd book in the 3-part series.

Thank you!

Dark Archive

Thank you!

Dark Archive

Hello!

I'm wondering if Paizo will be releasing APs on Roll 20 to support 2e.

I'm also wondering if yall are doing bundle deals for the 3 core rulebooks?

Thank you!

Dark Archive

Thanks for your reply Sam.

I'm finding it so hard to find anything nowadays because it's in a huge unorganized list as opposed to past searches where everything was categorized.

Is there any way to change that in my preferences or anything like that?

Can someone create a poll for this inquiry? I'd be interested to see that

Dark Archive

Hey folks,

Wishing wellness to all of you in these hard times.

I was looking for some of my older PF1e APs that I've purchased over the years but many of them are no longer there. How can I access them again?

Thank you!

A friend of mine were talking about medical/surgical applications of using certain specialties of wizardry.

Enchantment: anesthesiologist
Illusion: 3D mapping of the humanoid body
Evocation: the actual surgeon
Divination: Pre and Post op information for surgeons and family
Necromancer/Cleric: creating HP buffers for patients to raise their endurance
Abjuration: creating protections like mini-shields and mage armor to protect the patient

Dark Archive

I'm brainstorming into what practical everyday businesses a group of specialist wizards would excel at.

For example....

Necromancers would be great in the fertilizer business (gross but effective)

Evokers would excel at making fireworks or arms dealers.

Any ideas about the other schools of magic?

Note: I would've done an edit but I for the life of me can't find the damn thing.

So as stated above, I tried throwing a bunch of ideas and it comes down to them wanting all the spells for that level with no spells per day or uses per day limited by crafting during downtime.

They also want to slow things down by asking you on every action if what they do works and why it can't... instead of you know, doing a spell or spell-like action with established rules to keep the game moving.

He's basically avoiding making a progression for some reason, insisting that his class should basically be able to do whatever the hell it wants with alleged self imposed limits for the sake of "creative freedom".

What he wants to do with his character seems unreasonable. Since it doesn't seem like he's working with you, I would just limit him to PHB classes and go from there. If that isn't to his liking, than it might be time to uninvite him from the game.

In short, you're not missing anything.

I'm assuming this thread is rife with spoilers. That said, (btw...the party is 15th level)

WOW....what a session last night! The PCs are in Xin-Shalast and are taking up residence in one of the many empty buildings in the southern portion of the city....about a mile past the giant encampment. Because the PCs are wearing a couple of Sihedron amulets, Karzoug informs his servants of their whereabouts and they send a rune giant to their location....testing all of the intel (their strengths, weaknesses, etc) Karzoug has divined from them over the last year or so.

The rune giant attacks while a minor wizard in service to Kalib creates an illusion of more giant steps approaching up the stairwell. The battle spilled outside and the party eventually dispatches the rune giant.

Now because of the connection Karzoug has to his beloved creations--the Rune Giants--he senses the death of one (in fact he sees it happen though his scrying) and uses that death's energy to center a meteor swarm onto the PCs, taking 2 of the party down to 0hp and leaving the rogue inside a nearby building avoiding all the meteor damage via Evasion. Unfortunately for the rogue, the detonation causes that building to collapse burying him alive. He is unharmed but trapped within.

This definitely attracted attention from a contingent of cloud giants a ways away and they move in from the sky to investigate. Their was immediate healing administrated (mass cure wounds) as they simultaneously remember that they're all still affected by the Wind Walk spell. The rogue begins transforming within the wreckage but the others(minus the barbarian) did not attempt to hide before the transformation process (this was a WTF moment for me, as they saw the cloud giants flying towards them from afar).

The 3 cloud giants landed and immediately began to put the cleric and the bard in hog-tied manacles while the barbarian has the bright idea to begin to transform above their heads on an overhanging building preparing his eventual attack. They see him, fly up to him, and do the same. (although his hog tie is with the giant's leather belt as they were out of manacles)

Now it's become very much a s%!t show as the 3 giants haul the cleric, the fighter, and the barbarian. The cleric urges the others to get near him so that he can cast a Word of Recall spell (verbal component only!) An absolute crazy confrontation commenced and by all rights should have been challenging but not detrimental for a 15th level party.

But amazingly enough, the two healers (the cleric and bard) both died by BOTH rolling a 1 on their death saves! which was the biggest contributing factor. Everyone was floored by this very sudden turn from challenging to DEADLY.

BUT.....this gave me an amazing opportunity to RP out some dialog with Karzoug and both of their spirits as they wait near the runewell inside the Eye of Avarice. They are not particularly greedy souls so they're not worth as much to Karzoug as they would be if their hearts were filled with avarice. This does not stop him from processing their souls as he is currently taking great joy in seeing these would-be heroes thwarted in a most permanent way.

And for the others now, their is no escape from Xin-Shalast as the recently deceased cleric was responsible for their ease of travel over the Kodar mountain range.

I'm running a higher level RotRL and are currently in Chapter 5 (just hit 15th level).

Here are more specifics.....

Some folks have messaged me about some conversion questions and I decided to just put it on the thread.

How long the AP takes within this 5E format depends on how RP heavy or light your group is as well as how many players you have at your table.

I have 6 players in my group and designed the encounters to challenge that power level. Our RotRL campaign is currently on book 5 in the middle of Runeforge and we've been playing this campaign for over 2 years now and RPing on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the heaviest) was at 8.5.

This is how I mapped out level progression.

Burnt Offerings: Levels 1-4 (should gain 4th level getting through the second lower level of Thistletop)
The Skinsaw Murders: Levels 4-8
Hook Mountain Massacre: Levels 8-11
Fortress of the Stone Giants: Levels 12-13
Sins of the Saviors: Levels 13-15 or 16 (should be 14th level after the Xalasia encounter)
Spires of Xin Shalast: Levels 16 to ?

So essentially I leveled them up quicker at lower levels and slower at higher levels. I personally wanted to experience what high level game play was like in 5E. If you don't wanna go that high, I recommend scaling it back some.

Hope this helps!

I'm knee deep in running this campaign in 5E. I have found this to be a more-or-less seamless process and has been REALLy fun!

If you need any stat blocks, I have everything except chapter 6 created. PM me and I can send it in a drop box.

Dark Archive

I'm currently running a once a year (yes I did say "year") FTF 5E D&D Serpent's Skull campaign. We're just about to (in the next couple weeks) jump into the second book.

The first book is just fantastic as written. My biggest mistake is that I rushed a few parts in this chapter. Take your time. Set the mood.

The second book is all about your players backstory. I threw out almost all of the content in the book as written and used all of the separate encounters primarily as a backdrop for another encounter I custom created for the players.

The other thing I'm doing is creating flashback scenes taking my players back to either their lives previous to book 1, or creating flashback scenes while they were on the Shiv. I'm doing this to create a connection to the NPCs as well as to the other characters. Remember that my players only play this story line once a year so this SHOULD help with getting my players more invested in the story and all of the characters within.

I have other ideas pertaining to Saventh-Yhi but I'm still working out the kinks on this.

Dark Archive

I'd like to cancel my AP subscription. Thank you!

As a GM of 23 years, I've found watching live streams like Dice, Camera, Action and Matt Mercer's various things are great because I get to study masters working their craft. Chris Perkins is SO AMAZING at what he does and drops gothic horror like a BOSS.

Personal opinion: I think players SHOULD have expectations as long as they don't impose those expectations on a group with clashing expectations. At that point, it's that players responsibility to perhaps find another group where their expectations match more accurately the group they're playing with.

Dark Archive

The Delay Action. I know it's as easy as house ruling it in but it's officially not part of the rules.

Dark Archive

Building off of what you said Raynulf, possibilities include....

WIZARD...they can only hold more than one concentration spells with their specialized school of magic.

SORCERER....have to use a certain amount of sorcery points.

Any ideas for bards, warlocks, clerics, and druids?

Dark Archive

Concentration spells were a godsend to me coming from the 3E model of spellcasting--cast as many spells as you can. And still I love how reigned in it is. I have however heard from other people that only being able to concentrate on one 'Concentration' spell at a time is their least favorite thing about 5E. And I certainly see their point.

Has anyone opened the spellcasting system up to being able to have more 'concentration' spells up and running at the same time? I can see that maybe casting that second 'concentration' spell (and keeping it up) could require an ability check (INT for wizards, WIS for clerics and druids, etc.) with a DC of 10 plus 5 per extra 'concentration' spell up beyond 1.

If damage is taken, maybe the CON save uses the same equation (The DC equals 10 or half the damage you take, whichever number is higher) plus 5 per extra spell.

Has anyone tried anything like this? If so, any comments about it?

bookrat wrote:

Chapter 10, Valran Stonefist - what do the C's and R's mean after the spells? What does it mean that he is the one and true primus? I'm not seeing that reference in the chapter.

"C" means Concentration spells. "R" means Reaction spells. Sorry. I highlight those in color to better help me run things in game.

Dark Archive

Know that I wrote this for my group in mind (it should be noted that I have two female players) knowing that they can not only handle this kind of content but actually love the creepiness of these kinds of situations.

That being said, I absolutely agree that for some groups, targeting female characters IS questionable. For me, it was completely thematic. Lamashtu is the Mother of Monsters after all and desired a visceral impact on my players.
