I just started running the adventure path last night and my players approached the 'testing the arches' mission head on, with one character just dodging past the Oakstewards and running for the arches, then the other players joined in to add interference, one grappling an Oaksteward and another ducking under the rope to help, setting off the alarm in the process, and that is how the session finished.
So I'm interested on how other people would handle this?
Does the alarm summon more Oakstewards? I would guess so, but it would take a little while for them to arrive.
If the party manage to get the readings without hurting the Oakwardens they have still broken the rules, so what should the punishment be if they are caught?
What would the penalty be if they do hurt the Oakwardens?
Even if they get out of the city to deliver the device, they will have to come back in again, and will now be 'wanted' so again what penalties should be imposed?
I'm thinking a fine if they don't kill anyone, but what if they do?

Anyway, any thoughts and suggestions very welcome.
