I figured that I'd drop the obituaries of one of my players' multiple characters, despite the fact that it's 2025
Name: Somar
Ancestry: Fetchling
Class: Oracle (8) / Hierophant (2)
Adventure: Sword of Valor
Location: Citadel Drezen, on the entrance ramp
Catalyst: Attempting Melee
The Gory Details:
Spoiler:
The party was assaulted by several gargoyles. Somar was at the back of the party, trying to not be noticed by a few that had... four arms, for reasons. One of the four-armed gargoyles landed next to Somar, and on Somar's turn, he attempted to bonk it with a +1 adamantine morningstar, instead of escaping. The gargoyle didn't appreciate that, and full attacked poor Somar. This was the third or fourth time Somar had been killed, so he declined the raise dead spell cast by one of the two paladins.
Name: Hallsteinn Danr
Ancestry: Human (Kellid)
Class: Superstitious Barbarian 10 / Champion 3
Adventure: Demon's Heresy
Location: The Fallen Fane
Catalyst: Attempting to sunder a statue
The Gory Details:
Spoiler:
Hallsteinn attempted to sunder the Statue of Baphomet, which he assumed to be a normal statue as it had not acted yet (I don't think golems can pass as statues if they stand still, but ya know). This statue was Sc8rpi8n_mjd's Statue of Baphomet, but I also made it bigger to match descriptions. I told the player that since he couldn't sunder a Clay Golem, he could use the roll for an attack, and he did so. The attack didn't go very well, and the statue entered initiative, took a few steps away, and attacked Hallsteinn. The end came at the Statue's next turn, where it full attacked and downed the barbarian. The party was forced to retreat and decided to return to Drezen. Technically Hallsteinn isn't dead, the paladin of Shelyn was able to raise him, but at that point he was at four negative levels so he decided to stay behind. He's currently at Wintersun Hall as the new Clanliege (All hail Clan Danr), and he's gotten better since, but that's where he's at.
Name: Harald Fotios
Ancestry: Human (probably Taldan ethnically)
Class: Slayer 9 / Alchemist 1 / Champion 3
Adventure: Demon's Heresy
Location: Harnaste Crypt
Catalyst: Couldn't see in the dark
The Gory Details:
Spoiler:
The party had decided to visit Sesker's Gully after recovering in Drezen, because the other paladin (A paladin of Iomedae) has mechanically the Touched by Divinity trait but narratively the Child of The Crusades trait. They made their way into the crypt, took down the bodak, went into the next part of the crypt, and were engaged by two fallen with the nigh-invulnerable template from the Advanced Bestiary, and Sc8rpi8n_mjd's Mature Nabasu, Skulgrym (again, increased in size for my pleasure, iirc). The Nabasu cast deeper darkness , and since nobody could see through it, they were having trouble. Then, for reasons unbeknownst to me, Harald decided to move into the darkness. He ended his turn right next to Skulgrym, who decided to open Harald up. Harald was not able to survive his organs being exposed to air. It's good the party did not retreat, or else they might have to deal with a nigh-invulnerable Fallen Harald or something!
This one player is the only one to have lost characters, mainly because the other players are... more optimized, perhaps. I'm concerned about how many more characters will fall. If the trend continues, there could be three deaths from this player in the Midnight Isles.
