Name: Watts Helm the Corundum Sage
Alignment: Neutral Good
Race: Tengu
Class: Investigator 9
Description: Watts Helm is a thin and lanky Tengu that finds himself buried in scroll tubes and journals alongside his alchemical equipment. His clothing is a patchwork of different outfits from different cultures as he customizes something to be most optimal for himself. While he relishes the idea of delving through libraries for hours and days at a time, through previous field work he has learned so much that he couldn't through books. Both from things he has encountered and the Pathfinders he has fought alongside, he loves to learn from others and teach all he knows. For him, sharing knowledge improves both parties and hoarding knowledge to be virtually a sin.

Thank you all. It was an enjoyable run. It was a great party to be able to play with.

I do have a few last questions for the adventure.

Was the haunt permanently destroyed?
Was the ruin an ancient site (original occupants abandoned it at least 1000 years ago and must cover a 2500 sq. ft (50 ft. by 50 ft. area))?

With this Watts has hit a big milestone. A number of things have lined up for Watts to meet all the qualifications to become a jeweled sage himself. Hopefully he will not be removing hearts from anyone nor have murderous minions.

"I have my own questions about the jewel. Through it's creation, much harm was dealt. I hesitate to following in that study if that is an absolute requirement."

Watts wishes the gynosphinx farewell. "I wish you luck in your endeavors Saruna. I hope that you can accept my apology someday for what was done to you. If you seek aid, I will be among those to offer it."

"Cirri I agree with you, I've encountered few immortal beings that I have wished to follow in the footsteps of. I would much rather know I have done all I can and leave this world in peace. Although my likelyhood of a peaceful end is far less likely as I travel with the society. But such are the sacrifices I make for knowledge."

"From the reign of Ahabaris I, the Pharaoh of Long Shadows. One of the darker periods in Osirion's history, although there were a great many of them if one counts them out. I wonder how many were injured in the creation of the final product. It is unfortunate how much of the relics have such a violent history."

Given the aid of another, Watts is happy to offer his wand to heal Deyno and himself to some degree.

Watts looks more caustiously as he moves around the beacon. "This is the first time I've seen anything of this kind. Is it possible that the discharge is merely a symptom of the falling rather than anything like an true cause? Even then maybe this could halt or even just delay it. Marut, how long have you been here?"

"Riddlewhipple, do you think it is possible for you to take control of the device yourself to stabilize the flow of magic?"

Meanwhile Watts works at the apparatus, attempt to see if the lens could be redirected, disabled, or polarity reversed to turn back the cataclysm. Possibly in conjunction with the luminosity dampening or amplification at play around the beacon.

"Thank you for your understanding in this servant of Axis."

Watts frees his eyes to look to Cirri. Once he sees her healed he forces his body to rush to the beacon, relaying the names of the gods the statues might represent along the way.

He gets into position and begins looking across the console for any sign of familiarity. His first instinct is to search for pictographs, runes, or words that might highlight the purpose or control of the beacon.

Watts is much calmer now that the Hound is attacking him rather than the library or it's contents.

This is an acceptable alternative.

Hearing the beast still moving near him, Watts considers the options and while he fears what the hound might do, he decides to not try to put off the inevitable.

He tries to not consider the hound about to maul him as he keeps his eyes closed and focuses his mind on the marut before him.

"The library is a tool that that will be shared among many, but it's use by a criminal does not necessitate it bearing the brunt of the punishment, else all records would need to be destroyed for their use by various nefarious forces. By securing this place we can learn more about the person who utilized it, what they were accessing, as well as potentially identifying where they retreated. None of that will be possible if this location collapses on itself!"

Keep eyes closed. Standard action to answer the marut.

"And I follow some of the teachings of Pharasma myself, but this library is not the criminal. To let it be destroyed now for the actions of another would be a tragedy beyond description. To say that any library once used by a criminal should be destroyed would see no knowledge exist anywhere within any of the planes! We are willing to work with you if you allow us to safeguard this place! Provide you knowledge for the protection of the knowledge here." Watts' argument is a plea at points and a verbal accusation at others. He has little idea what argument would sway the marut in such a limited time so he makes includes as many viable statements as he is able; testing branches and pivoting based on any sign of acceptance or denial by the inevitable. There are times where Watts almost starts down a verbal tirade toward the outsider, but Yanndu's magic restrains what the tengu says and redirects him on safer paths. Watts chirps with excitement for a moment before collecting himself. "Do you know what that is? I almost imagine this is merely a delirium rather than assume that this is real. If I understand correctly, this blueprint is the original plan for the construction of the royal palace in Sothis! It shows the original considerations on how to properly develop the building within Ulunat's shell after it's destruction."

Amazed by every minor crease or stain on the document, Watts hovers over it unwilling to lay a feather on the ancient relic. Instead taking the entire presentation in for proper documentation for a later point.

"Much of this was changed over time, or possibly over the course of construction itself. Many records such have this were thought lost to the ensuing wars. The value of this is immeasurable!"

With the search of the room completed Watts asks, "As much as I would love to begin comparing this to what I know of the palace today, there is the question of what immediate goals we should apply ourselves to. Unless it is critical we face the golems now, we might want to head back to Saruna. She might be able to give us more direction on what we need to do to enter the library proper."

Disappointed by Cirri's reasonable reaction toward the soul possessing marionettes Watts strives to study any remaining bits of movement. "Some remnants of the the magic seems to still linger throughout the marionettes. We will likely wish to dispel this before we leave the tomb. Without Badru to control them the ethereal bindings might release them to grow like weeds here. Their power might still grow if not checked."

"For the moment though, I agree with exploring before returning to Saruna. We may yet lose momentum if we choose to stall our progress now, especially with presumably little left to explore."

Given the often disturbing nature of his studies, Watts takes on the task of the acquisition of the jewel to avoid others before forced into the task. He talks in part of his nature as well as to cover the messier noises created by the dismemberment.

"The scroll of glitterdust is unsurprising to find in the stores even from an ancient site such as this. The spell has a long use throughout the studies of magic through the ages. A number of us should be able to utilize it. The other I'm glad that Badru did not deploy it against us. If he was even capable of doing so. That will project a ray of destructive energy to disintegrate whatever it touches. As I am right now, I should be able to leverage the power within for our goals, but hopefully I'm not forced to do so."

After more half formed statement the tengu gives up on a convincing Badru. "Badru! This is madness! There need to be other dissenting voices for healthy society! You have gone mad!"

Looking to aid Ramesses, Watts runs to the marionette and recalls the rare study he did into the construction of constructs. After inspecting the materials closely he finds a crucial part to snap.

In addition to the prior questions about Badru's spellcasting and how hard is it to break the construct holding Ramesses I wanted to ask about about the position of Badru. The description for Badru on this last turn said he was moving toward a wall, but he is still in the middle of the room on the map. Where did he end up?

Debating between too many options given the situation. One question I have is how is Badru casting spells. In particular does he need verbal components to cast most of his spells? Also, if I make a check, could i get a sense of how hard that construct trapping Ramesses will be for me to destroy?

*** That sounds like some form of possession! I will attempt to aid you as soon as I'm able. For the moment though I greatly need your assistance. How does it feel? Are you able to sense your own body? See it or feel it as it takes action? Can you converse with the force that has taken control? When it took over did you lose any time or was the transportation instant? Can you still sense the area around you? Does everything appear to be the same or are colors/smells/tactile responses the same as though if you were in your own form? I've run into such attempts in readings and travels, but have yet to get first hand experience so I'm very curious as to the exact details. ***

While I didn't get any additional information Cirri was able to recall was that the spellcasting ability of Badru was around the power and level of Yanndu's.

"If only I had learned to practice in wands..." Watts covers his mouth as his pushes through the fog.

"What judgement is there to warrant execution? We have seen no crime meriting the accusation of treason! I do not wish to bring violence to the temple but I plead with you to reconsider your position!"

Watts makes a defensive sweep at Badru after taking a brief study of the most delicate portions of the construct.

There is no definitive reason given for the attack so far. It may be possible that our refusal to immediately agree to destroying the sphinx may have him considering us traitors to his master's will as well. Alternatively it could have been their plan to attack us all along and they needed to buy time until some other condition was met (allies in position and such). He also might be somewhat insane and unpredictable due to the long time spent within the tomb. This could be related to the haunt, but it seems like Badru is the one giving the commands here.

As the person in front, if you wish to delay until after he makes an explanation to effect or otherwise attacks, I would support that decision.

"My companion Yanndu wishes to speak to you ... directly." The tengu is a bit a fluster looking through his mind on how to deal with this interaction, but struggles to find analogues among knowledge of Kellid courtship rituals and Taldan introductions (by herald, family, or self).

Watts has little to add to Ramesses thoughts other than utter agreement. *** I can begin work right away, although with assistance we as a whole still may be able to complete the task faster. As a player I have a lot more information on the situation than my character. While I'm not going to hide Watt's opinions, I would rather look to others for what we should do. I do feel your opinions on how to deal with this are more important than mine and whatever happens I'll be fine with the decision.

"While I would appreciate more time on this world to learn and reveal lost knowledge, the number of spectres I've encountered, bound to this world for centuries have more than convinced me that when my time comes that I should accept it."

Watts looks toward the inevitable with some disappointment.

*** Apologies, I try to temper my reactions given the times I travel with members of the Society that conspire with undead, denizens of the lower planes, or other groups far more interested in dismemberment than discussion. I agree with being, at minimum, incredibly cautious and not treating any information as guaranteed fact. However, there was, and continues to be, a fringe possibility that the Sceaduinar is an oddity of his kind. There are a great number of stories of planar beings changing, for both good or ill. The reports I have read though that usually results in changes in their form as their essence evolves, but it is so rare that I haven't seen it in person or seen anything more than seeing them in legend. I must thank this telepathic communication for not necessitating pausing to breath. Anyway, while that does likely mean the creature is the typical for it's kind, the master might still not be as there are many cases of amoral (or with a different morality to be considered such) mages and divine servants who call upon the assistance of evil creatures. Might it also be possible it is speaking poorly? Bound within a tomb for millennia might well degrade normal conversation abilities... ***

While projecting that, Watts continues to question Badru.

"If I might ask, is there any other way to open the gateway without destruction? As well, where did you come across the Inevitable. It is rare to see them on the plane much less within a sealed tomb." Thinking back to past adventures he adds, "At least, when they aren't assigned to guard the location."

I would like to confirm the typical alignment of a Sceaduinar and learn the special attacks after that.

Watts looks to Badru with interest and takes another few moments trying to gauge the construct's servant.

"That would be more than unfortunate I must admit. Most my actions must be taken without a complete understanding of the situation. While it is necessary to proceed forward I have made poor decisions before in part because of my poor estimates. Please if you might elaborate."

Is there anything I know of either of them?

"We are very much honored to make your acquaintance. I hadn't expected the inhabitants here to be so friendly." Watts quickly introduces the party barring anyone who requests otherwise before turning back to the construct. "May I ask that you educate me. Who are you?"
