Yes, well. Kingmaker is exceptionally suited for this type of fights because, especially at start, most fights happen outside.
The difficult terrain can be bypassed, there is a feat that my cavalier player has for his horse that permit the horse to ignore the first 20 feet of difficult terrain when charging... that means he can charge about every time he is on the horse.
And even at level 6, A cavalier charge is DEADLY. Between a +4 strength bonus, the +2 for 2 handed weapon (yes, you can argue against it, but it does not matter so much), +4 from power attack, +2 from 2 handed power attack, +8 from Cavalier challenge (and kingmaker seems to have plenty of 1 big monster encounters).. all this TRIPLED because of damn spirited charge and you got someone doing regularly on a charge maneuver over 70 points of damage (+60 just from the bonuses).
My other players are getting frustrated because A) combat start and the cavalier charges in the horizon and B) bam, the big baddie is dead or with few hit points left. Yes, sometimes the cavalier misses, but now with the banner, he gets more and more bonuses to hit, so that becomes less of a problem, I cringe to think what happens when he gets a magical lance and going "ups, the lance broke AGAIN" is not anymore an option.
Is there anything I can do? I would like to curb this a bit so that my other players get a share of the action, but I do not want to nerf the cavalier too much as I realize as levels rise the casters of the group will get more and more power.
